Objertlves of the Charity
The Charity is a Company limited by guararbtee and has no share capital and was incorporated on the
16 January 2008. The Charity was established under a Memorandum of Association and is governed
under its Articles of Association.
The aim 15 to conserve the Transmitter Block at Bawdsey, malntain a unique exhibition, educational
facility and visitor attraction, to explain how radar was developed and to record the central role that
Bawdsey and radar played in saving our country during the Battle of Britain and thereafter.
The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public
benefit and have strived to ensure that the Charitls activities reflect this.
Appolntment of Trustees
Trustees are recruited through adverts in relevant local publications and recruitment websites (such
as NCVO, AIM etcl. The charity acknowledges the benefits of diversity and is seeking greater diversity
through the recruitment process. A recruitment panel of selerted trustees conduct final inteNiews.
Throughout this year we have been actively working towards recruiting more Trustees and in
particular a Treasurer. Our current acting Treasurer and Bookkeeper is keen to return to her more
general role as a Trustee as well a5 focussing on her Bookkeeping role. We end the financial year with
Vanessa Austin completing her period as Acting Treasurer and we thank her most warmly for all her
efforts on behalf of the Trust. Our new Treasurer will take up his role with her support.
This year has seen the addition of Paul Whiting, Alan Austin and Vanessa Austin to the board of
Trustees, widening the areas of experience and expertise and strengthening our numbers. Tony
Horton and Peter Abery have left the board and we thank them for all of thelr efforts on our behalf.
Review of Artlvltles and summary of the year
We began the year with the ambition of keeping a steady path without large projects to distract us
from what we felt was a necessary period of reflection and consolidation. 2025-26 has in fact turned
out to be one of our bu5ie5t and most successful year5 to date.
The Radar in the Air project skilfully managed by Graham Murchie not only brought many well
respected experts to Suffolk bLrt also attracted grant funding that has enabled a number of podcasts
on the development and significance of Radar to be made, thanks in large part to our Patron, Geofgy
Jamieson. The last in the series will be recoded over the coming months. We regard these podcasts as
both an excellent introduction to Radar issues and a valuable marketing tool.
Our close relationship with our landlords and neighbours at PGL Bawdsey Manor has resulted in our
being able to run tours of the Manor during the winter while the Manor was closed to the public.
This has provided an unexpected additional income stream with tours selling out quickly. In addition,
Short tours were held during the village fete. again to our financial advantage.

TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT
YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2026
The lack of refreshment facilities in the vicinity of the museum has also led us to pilot a "pop up" cafe
in the Museum garden. This is planned to tontinue as a small income stream and a public service.
Our most ambitious projert was the successful application for a grant to tour a play about the
development of Radar written by a local author. As well as spreading the story of Radar this enabled
US to produce a range of informative pull up banners relating to Radar in the local area which we are
now using for promotional purposes at events around Suffolk.
In terms of extraordinary expenditure in the year 2025-26, our biggest outlay has been on our concrete
renovations for which money was ringfenced within the original Heritage Lottery Fund Grant.
Another renovation is due in 8 years time. This year has seen a need for considerable IT investment-
inevitable as all our equipment was purchased at the same time. All this has been managed within
budget. We have also conducted an extensive review of our fixed assets and updated all records in
this area.
We have continued to work as a fully volunteer led and run organisation following the departure of
our salaried Visitor SeThice5 Manager last year but we are aware that this is putting additional
pressure on our existing volunteer5 and so are looking at options for the coming year. In particular
we need to recruit more volunteers to add to our excellent team.
As a Trust we continue to review our governance procedures and have reviewed all policies and
procedures with the aim of tlarifying and streamlining our organisation. All documents are now
stored on Teams to whlch all Trustees have access. We have a live Action Plan for the next five years
and clear aims and objective5. We have approved a membership scheme but have not yet
implemented it.
At the end of 2025 the Art Tickets platform was discontinued leaving us without a booking 5y5tem
for events. We are currently trialling Ticketsource for our Manor Tours and special events.
We continue to market our museum as widely as possible on the minimum of budgets and continue
to use free magazines and Facebook as an effective means of publicising Bawdsey Radar Museum.
Financial Review
At 31 March 2026 the unrestricted funds were £88,850, the restricted funds were £48,705 and funds
totalled £137.SS5.

BAWDSEY RADAR TRUST
TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT
YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2026
Reserves Poliry
The Trustees previously ogreed that an Operational Reserve of £20k should be built up when p055ible
in case of a major incident not covered by our insurance. It turns out the loss of income caused by the
pandemic was one of these incidents. The current level of £20k has been reviewed by the Trust and it
was agreed that this will remain at this level for the time being althoLtgh the Trustees acknowledge
this money may be required to meet operation expenditure in the short-term.
In addition a reserve fund of £23k has been put aside to meet current and future maintenance on the
refurbished building and surrounding infrastructure, but every opportunity will be taken to find
additional grant support for major works, such as window replacement, to minimise the drain on this
reseNe.
Future Strategy
The mood in the Trust 15 buoyant following a very busy and positive year. We have challenge5 to face
in the year ahead as there is always a great deal of work to be covered and we need to recruit more
volunteers. We are also looking to buy in time from part time flexible hours contrart worker5 to ensure
the continued efficient running of the Trust. That the current workload 15 covered as well as it is, is
e to the keenness, commitment and hard work of all those involved for which the Trustees are
very
ateful.

ACCOLINTING POLICIES
General Information and basis of preparation
The Charity is a Company limited by guarantee and has no Share capital. The Charity 15 incorporated
in England and Wales. The address of the registered office is The Transmitter Block, Bawdsey,
Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 38A. The company number is 06474550. The nature of the charity's
operations and principal artivities are to conserve the tran5fflitter block at 8awdseyi create a unique
exhibition, educational facility and visitor attraction, to explain how radar was developed, and to
record the central role that 8awdsey and radar played in saving our country during the Battle of
Britain.
The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102. The financlal statements have
been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland issued in October 2019, the
Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021. and
the Charities Act 2011, and UK Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
The financial statements have been prepared to give a 'true and fair, view and have been departed
from the Charities IAccounts and Reports) Regulatlons 2008 only to the extent required to provide a
true and fair view., This departure has invloved following the Accounting and Reporting by Charities..
Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance
with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland issued in October
2019, rather than the Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice
effective from l April 2CK15 which has since been withdrawn.
The financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis under the historical cost convention,
modified to include certain items at fair value. The financial statements are presented in Sterling
which is the functional currency of the charity and rounded to the nearest £.
The significant accounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial statements are set
out below. These policies have been consistently applied to all years presented unless otherwise
stated.
Going Concern
The funding model for the charity has changed significantly since the completion of the Lottery
project funding and the reduction in visitor numbers following the pandemic. The trustees, staff and
volunteers. have been working hard to increase visitor numbers but in reality these are not back to
pre-pandemic levels, leaving the Trust drawing on reserves to cover the increased costs. Since the
Balance Sheet date the trustees have been working on a Finance Plan to address the shortfall in funds
over the coming years and are confident that there are sufficient reserves in place to cover any
funding issues whilst the plan is given time to take effect. The trustees have therefore considered
the level of funds held and the expected level of income and expenditure for the 12 months from the
date of authorising these financial statements and consider that the charity will still have sufficient
access to cash resources to operate in that period. The trustees therefore have a reasonable
expectation that the charity can continue in operation for the next 12 months and it is appropriate
to prepare the financial Statements on a goin8-concern basis.
Funds
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general
objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.
