Box 4166, Bracknell, RG42 9JU **Trustees** Sarah Noor Sarah Nutbrown John Yeomans (New trustees are appointed in accordance with the Deed) ## `Objectives and Activities` The object of the charity is to advance the education and improve the welfare of underprivileged children and young adults in developing countries The charity’s main activity in support of this object is to match underprivileged children with the ability and desire to learn, with sponsors who will provide funds to cover the cost of their education. The charity also raises funds to cover additional costs in relation to the education and welfare of the children we support and their families. ## `Achievements and Performance` The trustees have complied with their duties, having due regard for the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, particularly in regard to education, delivering identifiable benefits to the public. 2023 began with FATE celebrating the successes of one of its sponsored students, Eunita Akumu. With support from her sponsor, Eunita achieved not only a primary and secondary education, but also a university education in engineering. Eunita has been working hard in her chosen profession becoming independent and developing her skills. Three more students graduated at the end of 2023. Mohammed Ali surpassed all expectations and has even gone on to begin a Masters course in criminology continuing to be sponsored by FATE. In October, two of the FATE Trustees visited our partner, the Wema Centre in Mombasa. The Wema Centre is a non-governmental organisation in Kenya that cares for, and supports, street children and children living in poverty. We have worked with them since our foundation to help provide opportunities for children in their care, or in the local community, to access education. We also provide funding to support the children’s welfare to enable them to engage well in their education and get the most from it. It had been many years since our last visit, and it was a resounding success. The trip involved a tour of Wema’s farm, football matches, outreach visits and a wonderful celebration day. Many of the FATE alumni who had graduated from the programme over the years, returned to join the celebration and gave some wonderful speeches. They shared their experiences of being cared for by Wema and sponsored by FATE, inspiring many more young Wema beneficiaries to work hard and follow their dreams. Registration number 1125401 We have gratefully received ongoing support and donations from **John and Annabelle Yeomans** help to cover FATE’s admin costs meaning 100% sponsorship funds continue to reach the children they are raised for. FATE would like to thank all its fantastic sponsors, donors and corporate supporters for helping us to make such a difference. ## `Financial Review` ## `Results and Funds` Income increased from £17,048 in 2022 to £33,524 in 2023. This was due to the receipt of four years’ worth of gift aid (which totalled £11,568), and the ongoing support and loyalty of our wonderful sponsors and donors. A decrease in the value of the Kenyan Shilling also resulted in a reduction in the total annual outgoings. After expenditure of £14,027, this left a reserve of £48,977. (No funds are held as a custodian trustee on behalf of others). ## `Reserves Policy` It is the policy of the charity to commit to help the children we support throughout the lifetime of their education. For some children this will take them right through university and for others this may be up to secondary school followed by vocational training. In order to meet this commitment, we have been fundraising and building our reserves to ensure we can continue to support all our beneficiaries for a period of at least 24 months, even if any of our sponsors or corporate donors were to cease their support and we were unable to secure replacements immediately. ## `Plans for Future Periods` Costs are expected to continue to increase over the coming years, as a result of the sponsored children progressing through their education and anticipated rises in costs for transport, food and other essential items. The British Pound remains strong against the Kenyan Shilling and helps to mitigate some of the impact of increased costs. The situation will continue to be monitored closely.
