Deed)

Objectives and Activities

The object of the charity is to advance the education and improve the welfare of underprivileged children and young adults in developing countries

The charity’s main activity in support of this object is to match underprivileged children with the ability and desire to learn, with sponsors who will provide funds to cover the cost of their education. The charity also raises funds to cover additional costs in relation to the education and welfare of the children we support and their families.

Achievements and Performance

The trustees have complied with their duties, having due regard for the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, particularly in regard to education, delivering identifiable benefits to the public.

2020 began with FATE celebrating the graduation and independence of one of its sponsored students. With support from her sponsor, Elizabeth has secured a position at a local business and has already begun to earn her own income.

In March FATE took on an additional sponsored child who was enrolled at school and is now busily pursuing his dreams of becoming a pilot.

In May, FATE celebrated the graduation of another of its sponsored students. Achieving a diploma in education, Leila has already secured a teaching position at a local school.

Towards the end of 2021, another two of FATE’s beneficiaries, Bashir and Ethel, graduated from the sponsorship program having secured a job in Sales and Administration have become fully independent. Their graduation has also enabled new children to benefit from the gift of a great education.

Gratefully received ongoing support and donations from John and Annabelle Yeomans help to cover FATE’s admin costs meaning 100% sponsorship funds

continue to reach the children they are raised for. John has also now joined the FATE team as a trustee and his input has already proved invaluable.

FATE would like to thank all its fantastic sponsors, donors and corporate supporters for helping us to make such a difference.

Financial Review

Result and Funds

Income remained similar in 2021 at £27,323 from £28,328 in 2020, due to the loyalty of our many long-term supporters and sponsors. After expenditure of £18,296, this left a reserve of £27,048. (No funds are held as a custodian trustee on behalf of others).

Reserves Policy

It is the policy of the charity to commit to help the children we support throughout the lifetime of their education. For some children this will take them right through university and for others this may be up to secondary school followed by vocational training.

In order to meet this commitment, we have been fundraising and building our reserves to ensure we can continue to support all our beneficiaries for a period of at least 12 months, even if any of our sponsors or corporate donors were to cease their support and we were unable to secure replacements immediately.

Plans for future periods

Costs are expected to continue to increase over the coming years, as a result of the sponsored children progressing through their education and anticipated rises in costs for transport, food and other essential items.

The charity has plans through 2022 and 2023 to focus on increasing our donations from corporate and individual sponsorships to ensure we can cover these increasing costs. The strengthening value of the British Pound (£) against the continuously weakening Kenya Shilling (KSH) will go some way to manage these costs.

The above report was approved by the trustees on 20/08/22 and signed on their behalf by
