The Trustees of the JTYAF have enabled the
provision of opportuntties for many local young
people lo fuffil their ambitions in life and to really
develop as indNiduals As a Board of Trustees,
we have fuffilled our objective to provide financial
assistance for esFeually, but not exclusively,
leisure time adivtiies and pursuits. so as to
develop the capab1lrt￿S of selected young people.

This has been achieved by awarding scholarships
and bursaries to young people selected by the
organisations that we support. providing
opportunrties which encourage personal
development and achievement. Discretionary
Awards to young tEople vtho do not belong to any
of the supported organisations have also
accounted for a substantial amount of awarded
funding together ￿th funds for whole school and
group projects.
The Foundation has maintained rts support of
young people with awards of ov8r £84,000 to 170
young indtviduals In addttion, the JTYAF funded
19 whole school and group ventures.
The charity allocated funding for support to young
people from 20 youih organisations including,
Femdown Upper School, the Air Cadets Junior
Leadets Course. Dorset & Wilts Air Cadets,
Beaucroft Foundation School. Ferndown Middle
School, St Michael's Middle School, West Moors

Middle School, Femdown First School, Parfey
First School, Hampreston First School, the Coda
Fiddle Orthestra. the Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Scheme, Boumemouth. Christchurch and Poole
and the Shires,Dorset. Dorset ScoLrts and
Chnstchurch Division ScoLrts. Dorset Guides, the
Tall Ships Youth Trust. Boumemouth Sea Cadets
& Royal Marine Cadets, Swm Boumemouth and
Child in the Wild Forest School.
The Discretionary Fund and Accessible Funds
were used to¥rovide opportunrties for young
people who are not members of the JTYAF'S
supported organisations. During 2023 a total of
£14,500 was awarded to support 13 individuals
and 4 group projects.
The charity also continues to fund the ￿aSe for a
16-seater minibus, serving 7 local ￿hoolS plus
numerous local youth Organ￿atIOns.

During 2023 the JfYAF was busy with a range of
fundraising events and volunteer SUPF)Ort was
crueial to the su￿sS of these activities.
Contribution made by
voltjnteers
The popular Cury Night and Trout Fishing Day
were organised by a JTYAF volunteer. and the
incredibly Suc￿$$fUl Bingo Night was again
organised by a Jr(AF volunteer.
The JTYAF Aftemoon Tea saw volunteering
support at its best. More than 20 volunteers
ensured that the event was a huge success. From
Air Cadets putting out the tables to volunteers
welcoming the guests, sandwich making, serving,
and washing up.
The Foundation was chosen by the Femdown
Goff Club Ladies Captsin as her Charty of the
Year and her fundraising event, 'Triathlon with a
Twist, was made possible by more than 50
volunteers and parti¢ipants.
Trustees aTrJ volunteers supported the charity at
the Boumemoulh Air Show Hospitality Day.
Volunteers from Barclays and HSBC not only
rovided their hel but also contributed to the

funds raised £4£ matched funding from their
respect've banks.
JTYAF Ambassadors are also central to the
operation of the Charity, raising the profile of the
JTYAF. organisin9 fundraising support and also
providing personal funding support.
Achievements and PerfonTsance
SORP
The JTYAF has had a very successful 15th year.
15 years of support for young people coincides
with achieving over £1 million presented in
awards. Awards that have made an important
diffe￿n￿ to the lives of more than 2500 young
individuals, many school communrties and
ountless yOLrth groups.

Dunng 2023 over £84,000 was awarded to
individuals and groups. The charity also continues
to fund the lease for a 17-seater minibus, serving
71¢)cal schools plus numerous local youth
organisations.
The chanty provided funding to support young
people trom 20 youth organisations. Examples of
this support includes.-
Femdown Upper School
Over £17.200 was awarded as scholarships and
bursaries to 45 individuals. Funding was awarded
for activities ranging from a Physics Trip to Cem.
and a National Pool Lrfeguard Course, to piano
lessons and PA equipment for a talented
musician.
One of the scholarships supported an exciting
project for a team of 4 students who are taking
part in the South-west of England 'F1 in Schools,
omFetition. They have to design and
manufacture a miniature car OLrt of the official F1
Model Block using CADICAM design tools.
Funding also supported tsvo students to represent
Great Britain in their chosen sports. An award was
made to a 1>year-old to pay for travel expenses
enabling him to take part in the Loule Cup
Gymnastics Championships for Tumbling in
Portugal where he achieved a Bronze Medal.

A 15-year-old student also re￿iVed a scholarship
to help with travel expenses to participate in the
Workl Marshall Arts Games in Flonda
Likewse, a 15-year-old athlete re￿iVed
scholarship to purchase ra￿ng rollers for his
wheelchair providing him with the opportunity to
train more frequently and reaGh his full potential as
a competitor.
In addition to awards for individual students
JTYAF funding also supported a Year 9 residential
trip making it acceSsit￿6 for 17 Pupil Prernium
students.
Dorset & Wllts Wing Alr Cadets
During 2023 the JTYAF awarded £5500 in funding
whith included a contnbution to support a 54ay
visit to the Achiet le Grand RerneMbran￿ Parade
for Air Cadet's from Highworth Supermarine
Squadron.
The JryAF also helped with costs for 2 cadets to
attend Exercise Mountain Stomi in Canada. for
another to attend an Aerosp8￿ Camp, and also
nded a Spanish GCE school trip to Spain.
Air Cadet Junior Leaders Course
JTYAF funding paKI for a team of 10 Qualified Air
Cadet Junior Leaders to travel to Washington,
further developing and improving the leadership
skills aca]uired during the Junior Leaders Course.
A life Ghanging experience for these outstanding
young leaders.
Coda Fiddle Orchestra
An award of £4000 provided scholarships for 13
talented young violinists who have been assessed
as having outstanding abilty. These young people
are given the opportunrf(y to fijrther develop their
musical talents by the provision of 1=1 tutlion. The
John Thomton Music Scholars ranged in abilty
from the youngest beginners to those studying at
Grade 7.
This communty music project is specLfically aimed
at children and young people in Boscombe.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award Schemes. Dorse(
Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole
The JTYAF supported 19 young peopl8 to take
part in the D of E which builds Confiden￿ and
develops self-esteem. JTYAF support helped with
registration fees, expeditson costs and essential
equipment such as walking boots.

The charity also provided funding to help with the
setup of the DofE Programme at Atlantic Academy
on the Isle of Portland. The Isle of Portland is the
third most deprived area in the UK and young
people havè a limited number of opportuntties
available to them. The beneffts of taking part in
the DofE are huge and we are delighted to support
the setup of the scheme. with tents, stoves and
equipment kts.
Tall Ships T£ust
The adrninistration at the Tall Ships Trusl has
re￿ntlY undergone 3 Ghan)e"of personnel and
unfortunately the criteria for the JTYAF awards
could no longer being met.
West Moors Mlddle School
The JfYAF supported 4 students from West
Moors Middle School, enabling them to take part
in residential school tnps which would otheNise
have not been a￿ssIble to these students.
The school also re￿Ned an additional award of
£6000 which wrll fund match the amount raised by
their parents to cover the cost of an outdoor
Amphitheatre.
Time spent in an outdoor space has been shown
to have a positive impact on children's mental
health and wellbeing. This outdoor learning
environment will bring the school community
together and provide a plafform for the children to
express their feelings and emotions in addrtion lo
showcasing their perfom)ing skills in front of an
audience.
Bournemouth Sea Cadets & Royal Marine
Cadets
Used their award allocation to pay for 8 Sea
Cadets to take part in an Offshore Power Courses,
Sailing Courses and voyages.
Discretionary and Accessiblity Funds
The Discretionary Fund supported several group
projects including cricket development for
Femdown Wayfarers Youth Cricket Teams by
funding the purchase of mats for their indoor
training.
A Middle School perfonning in the Young Voices
competrtion at the 02 Arena in 2024 recetved a
JryAF award which made the trip accessible for
the whole choir by covering the cost of the Goath.
The JfYAF funded hall rental to help wrth the
setup of a junior table tennis club in Cattistock.
Awards were made to 13 individuals. These
included fundin
for travel and accommodation

costs to support a young athlete to comF￿e in
Power-chair fiwtball in Nottingham.
Similarfy, a young man travelling to the Worfd
Snooker Federation Junior Champs in Albania
received support for accommodation costs.
A contribution towards the cost of an oboe helped
a talented musician.
Disadvantaged Pupil Premium students recetved
fijnding to COV￿ the cost of water sports during an
activity week at their school.
Brother and sister BMX ri¢iers"were also supported
with funding to attend the BMX Worfd
Championships in Glasgow. The younger sister is
now the new Wodd Number 3 after her success in
the ￿year-old age group and big brother came in
the lop 10 in the 12-yearwold age group. WrthoLrt
JTYAF support these ta￿nted young people would
have been unable to ￿rnpete at this level.
Swim Bournemouth
Swim Boumemouth v￿S a new organisation ft)r
JTYAF support in 2023 and a scholarship was
provided to cover 50% of the swimming and
o)mFEtstion fres enabling a talented young man to
continue wrth his training in his chosen sport.
This is not an exhaustNe list but imparts a flavour
of the diversty which the JTYAF encourages, and
the huge benefits prOV￿ed to young people in our
communty. Young peopte and their families
continue to face many challenges and the JTYAF
is prtvileged to be able to offer support at this
dtfficuli time. Young pe¢)ple have been able to take
part in activities which they would not have been
able to do V￿thOUt JTYAF funding and the school
projects made possible have made a real
drfference to the young Feople who have
benefitted from them.
The JTYAF has continued to develop links with
other organisations and has had several business
partners dunng the year, including Femdown &
Parley Rotary Club, Verwood Rotary Club.

The JTYAF has assisted the development of
young people from the organisations that were
selected by the trustees for 2023, providing over
£84.OCX) of funding for awards.
Achievements against

The charity organised several events during 2023
including the Show Hospitalrty Day, which was
the main fundraiser of the year. The charity has
also trRen supported by a range of clubs and
organisations through 'thaTity of the yearf status.
The JTYAF received incredibly generous support
from the Air Cadet Junior Leaders on Course 23
whose individual fundraising activrties raised more
than £24,0(Ki This together with a large personal
donation has eHsured that the JTYAF can continue
to support young people at a pre pandemic level
and will ftjnd awards for 2024.

business donations and from Chanty of the Year

Air Cadet Junior Leaders fundraise for the JfYAF
as part of their ILAM Qualffication and have
contributed a substantial amount of our income
for several years. During 2023 the Cadets on
the Course 23 organised individual fundraising
activtties and raised an in¢redible £24,000.
