Trustees Statement

FUN4KIDS IN CONSTRUCTION

During Covid the fun4kids charity took a backseat and reduced activities significantly. Unfortunately, some of our great programs we had established pre covid came to a halt. Without the ability to manage sessions safely, we resorted to running a weekly zoom class. As there was no playscheme, holiday packages were sent out with activities and programmes funded by kind donations from a local store.

During April-August 2021 the Trustees met and had planning sessions to reconstruct the charity and align new aims and objectives with the emerging evidence of post pandemic challenges amongst children. We also recruited a new trustee to expand the team and allow for growth.

With the collective experience of Trustees in the education sector, new provisions were established which recruited fun4kids to carry out the charitable objectives effectively.

With good planning in conjunction with schools, social workers, local councils’ services started in September 2021. We are delighted that the past 12 months have proven to be successful and fun4kids has rebounded into a year of phenomenal growth…

Our theme this year - ‘’Laying beams under kids dreams’’ resonates well for fun4kids. We are constantly here with our great mission to give children the right tools to be able to make their big dreams happen. The confidence and independence gained through our quality programs leave our users with improved life chances. Armed with tools and techniques, children and young people feel secure. With increased encouragement, children have raised their ambitions. Dreaming big.

Each child is a hero. Building their talents and skills, capacity and capability, with resilience and strength. Children for whom group work is a struggle, learn to join small groups. One step forward. One giant leap for their confidence.

J Sinitzky

Building beyond

AFTER SCHOOL CAN BE A TOUGH AND CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE FOR MANY BOYS. WITH LOTS OF ENERGY AND TIME, AND LITTLE CONSTRUCTIVE PROGRAMME, THE STREET CAN QUICKLY BECOME A PLACE TO HANG OUT.

In addition, there is an influx of boys suffering emotional challenges such as anxiety and stress. Schools have commented how they would like to refer their students to a quality programme that also provides mentorship, friendship and support.

Our after-school programmes offer social opportunities, a relaxing and safe space as well as quality mentors. By joining a programme such as music sessions, art classes or woodwork groups young boys can be stimulated and enjoy with their friends in a supportive environment. They are busy, which reduces stress and anxiety. Sessions build confidence and self-esteem. Our boys get a chance to shape and fulfil their dreams.

Music sessions- Led by a variety of qualified instructors, boys can join small groups of up to 6 boys for a one-hour weekly session such as drumming, singing or Vibro- acoustic therapy. Participants who struggle socially interact in a facilitated environment and learn healthy communication, displaying empathy, turn taking and making and maintaining friendship

Woodwork- Here boys can dream big and build the structure they choose to, under the careful guidance of an experienced carpenter. It is gratifying to observe the variety of choices and the sheer joy of a finished product, that has been through hours of hard work and concentration. Wood work is a sure way to build confidence in our users.

Creative Arts- Fun4Kids offers a variety of stimulating Art classes in painting, art technique, drama, and graphic design. These sessions are often led by therapists to guide our users to use the opportunity of the class for self-expression.

Kids fulfil their dreams and develop essential life skill through such activities. It helps them physically, socially, and mentally. All this enables us to help young boys develop their full capabilities and mature into reliable and responsible adults.

Our Holiday Playschemes are great fillers for boys. These breaks are a chance for them to stretch, unwind and shine. We offer structured stimulating and healthy fun for boys aged 5-15 years old, during school holidays for 4 days a term. Children benefit from small groups, and go on day trips, do team building activities and engage in voluntary work. They develop their confidence and independence and build lasting friendships all in an atmosphere of good cheer and relaxation.

Our holiday programmes attract up to 60 users and are well attended by local children.

We also run an annual 3-day retreat for boys aged 13-15 where we stay in the countryside and do hikes, high course ropes, swimming, rafting and late-night bar b q’s. Special moments are formed under the dark night and twinkling stars. Boys have a chance to shine in our fun social activities and strong friendships are formed.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Heads up - our popular social and team building club, where boys can sign in for a really fun and exciting weekly session which runs for 12 weeks. Using role modelling, interactive activities and team building exercises young boys can grow and expand their social and communication skills. A typical session can include a hilarious activity of trying to explain to a blindfold partner how to fold a paper ship, but without eye contact and body language, a small set of instructions becomes a mammoth task. This particular activity reinforces the need to communicate effectively AND listen carefully. The fun element of the sessions brings our users back for more and this ‘educational’ session is highest rated by our users.

SPORTS

Throughout the summer months we run outdoor sporting sessions on Sundays and weekends. Young boys enjoy activities such as aerobic training, netball and strength training.

TABLE TENNIS: We own a table tennis which we set up in the rooms we use during our holiday playschemes. This is a much enjoyed chill activity which can be used whenever boys need a time out.

SOME POSITIVE OUTCOMES

CYCLING. We run safe bike riding sessions at the start of the summer to ensure our users are geared up for leisure biking in a safe way. This covers how to check tyres, brakes and helmet fit before riding. Then the course covers safe road riding such as switching lanes and cornering safely using hand motions. Finally, riding carefully and stopping safely.

“Cycling has always been really worrying for me due to my safety concerns. I am so glad Ben joined the early summer bike safety course at fun4kids!” Mrs Roberts

Young Voices Team

Our YVT - young voices team program constantly helps us monitor our users’ needs. It helps us watch the progress and success of our work.

We do this via different methods and forms such as video taking after sessions, mini-interviews or handing out an opinion poll to ask the boys what they feel like or what they enjoyed most. This gives them a chance to raise their voice of opinion and improves confidence as we perform further according to their feedback.

In addition, we give out an extensive questionnaire at the start of the course covering hard and soft skills rated on a 1-10 basis. These exact questions will be asked during the course and after the course helping us to map changes and learn how to shape future work that we do.

Independent Exmainer’s Report to the Trustees on the Unaudited Accounts of the Charity fun4kids

We report on the financial statements of Fun4kids, for the year ended 31 August 2022 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities, the Balance Sheet and the related notes. These financial statements have been prepared, under the historical cost convention, and in accordance with the recommendations in Accounting and Reporting By Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice (Issued 2015), and the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities 102 (effective 2016), and the accounting policies set out therein.

Respective Responsibilities Of Trustees and Independent Exmainer

As described on page 13, the trustees of the charity are responsible for the preparation of the accounts, and they consider that the audit requirement of section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) does not apply. It is our responsibility to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 144 of the Act, whether particular matters have come to our attention.

Basis of Independent Examiners Report

Our examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners.

An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. These procedures provide only the assurance expressed in our opinion. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be

required in an audit, and consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Opinion

In our opinion, no matter has come to our attention,

1) which gives us reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

a) to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the Act; and b) to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act have not been met; or

2) to which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
