OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Sigi)Ificaiit aellvltles
The work ol ACA is aimed al those people that are, or al risk of becoming, excluded from mainstream social and
educational provision. Since 2005 ACA has pursued Ils activities through a facility operating as a communily enterprise
in Heskelh House known locally as Ilaca...providin9 a community cale and meeting rooms for use by the community.
The seivices have always been adapted lo meel local needs.
Some of Ihe usual work of the Charity was disrupted and ieslricled by lockdowns because of Ihe Covid-19 pandemic.
However. many of the activities continued throughout with an einpliasis on Ineelin9 local identified needs in line with our
objectives and our Project Development Plan. Food parcels continued lo be SLJpplied lo people In crisis and Community
Money Advice, Information and Bersefils Advice operated reirolely. The youth workers continued lo delive¥ remote
activities lo young people findin9 new ways lo en9age wilh Ihem. The cale and IT resource remained Closed.
11 wasn't long into the panden)ic when il became clear that we Could no longer afford lo remain in the building We
served notice on our Lease and began lo search for new premises. In November 2021 the Foodbank and Community
Money Advice relocated lo newly refurbished slalion buildings In the heart ol the community in Pensarn where there are
high levels of deprivation. A Lease has been granted by Transport for Wales. The young people relo¢ated lo their own
premises in 2019.
The following activities form parl of the Project Development Plan.,
Aborgole 0181rl¢t Foodbank
Abergele District Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust ITTI network of foodbanks. providing emergency parcels lo
people in crisis. Clients are signposted lo other agencies able lo help resolve the undeilying cause of the crisis. The
Foodbank provides opportunities lo build relationships with clients whilst establishing trust and opening further
opportunities lo help and supporl Ihem.
The Foodbank Supports socially disadvantaged or vulnerable people through a supported volunteer scheme. The
Foodbank supports adults lo volunteer within their local conimunily building confidence, sell-esleem and reducing
social isolation. providing opportunities lo learn new skills in readiness tor a return lo employment. further trainin9. 0
education.
The Foodbank works closely with referral agents lo find the underlying cause ol Ihe need for a food parcel and lo work
towards resolving the crisis.
The Trussell Trusl is a charitable organisalion that supports a nationwide network of foodbanks that together provide
emergency food and support lo people locked in poverty, alongside campaigning lor change to end the need for
foodbank$ in the UK.
ACA embraces the vision of the Trussell Trust Foodbank for a UK wilhoul the need lor Foodbanks and is commilled to
working with the local community lo laun¢h lile.changing, suslainable. communily-based projects by engaging Ihe
community in providing food and additional support lo local people who are wilhoul access lo food because of a lack of
money. We uphold Ihe Trussell Trust common values of compassion, juslice, dignity, and community with the strategic
goal of ending the need for our services, whilst recognising Ihal we will serve people in crisis for as long as we are
needed.
The TT vision is lor a UK wilhoul the need for foodbanks, and the strategy lo achieve this is outlined under 3 main aims..
Changliig Communltle8'. Working lo reduce the need for their services locally, helping people lo access lafgeled
support thal addresses the underlying reason lor their crisis.
Changlng Policy. Working alongside partners lo provide stronger evidence ol the drivers ol extreme poverty lor
'deslilulion'l and pushing for positive solutions that will help tackle these.
Chaiiglng Mlnds.. Increasing levels of understandin9 and empathy among51 the public. locally and UK-wide, lo build a
movement that Is willing lo lake action lo create a just and compassionate society wilhoul the need for foodbanks.
Abergele foodbank has been approved as a Pathflnder loodbank, which Is part of the Trussell Trust live-year strategy.
As a Palhlinder foodbank we have developed a strategic plan lor reducing the need lor our services locally with the goal
ol building a future where no one goes hungry, and everyone has enough money for the basics.

Provides free. unconditional. fully confidential money advice and practical support lo people ffom all walks ol life,
helping people overcome their money problems and make a fresh start on a stable financial fooling free from the blight
of indebtedness. Abergele Community Money Advi￿ is aulhorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Aulhorily.
Informatlon and Beneflt¥ Advlce
Provides immedialelurgenl advice about welfare and benefits mallers as well as providing a free, impartial, and
confidential service lo help people, with a locus lo alleviate poverty and lo promote inclusion and equality through
advice, assistance and advocacy.
Youth Incluslon IAb¢rgo1e Youth Shed)
Provides communily-based intervention aimed al those young people aged between 10 and 25 that are. or at risk ol
becoming, excluded from mainstream social, economic. educational. and digital opportunities.
Abergele Youth Shed is in a building adjoining Ihe local school and community college and family cenlre. 11 provides a
regular meeting place for young people where they can enjoy conslruclive and creative activities in a safe environment
Including digital music and media opportunities as well as opportunities lo learn pra¢lical skills includin9 cooking.
Abergele Youth Shed provides a facility lor after school a¢livilies, when young people are mosl vulnerable, contributing
lo reduced incidenls of anti Social behaviour. A variety of activities are delivered during school holidays providin9 a safe
place lor young people whilst also serving allordable and healthy snacks throughout the day. Abergele Youth Shed al$0
provides inclusion support working with those young people that are, or are al risk ol becoming, disengaged from
education.
The work focuses on voluntary participation. 11 is educative, expressive, participalive, inclusive, and empowering. We
fespecl the views and opinions ol young people through participation in planning and deliverin9 our programmes
considerin9 their interests and aspirations as well as individual needs.

enhanced IT skills opening new opportunities for further training andlor employment.
Young people develop aspiration and a sense ol achievement.
Young people are listened lo and develop a voice where they Can influence local aclivilies.

Financial projections are prepared and regularly reviewed by the trustees taking account of all income and expenditure.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves Pollcy
The Iruslees have reviewed and adopted a policy lor holding reserves. having given due consideration lo the operational
profile ol the charity the board feel that il is appropriate lo hold reserves that as a minimum wouSd cover the cosls ol
winding up the organisalion should the organisalion have lo close. The Iruslees feel that in practical terms this would
represent holding a reserve equivalent lo 6 months. core operational expenditure. On the basis that resefves fall below
this threshold, the Ifuslees will aim lo restore the reserves lo a minimum level within the next year by increasing fund
raising and earned income and reducing expenditure.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The charity Is controlled by ils governing document, a deed ol Irusl, and constitutes a limited company, limited by
guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
Memorandum and Articles of Association incorporated 17 January 2005 as amended by special resolution 19 May 2008
and by special resolution on 1 Oth November 2104.
Abergele Community Action became a charity from Ihe 24th July 2008.

Trustees are recruited from members ol the community from all walks ol life expressing an interest. nominated and

Children In Need. NLCF. Comic Relief Community Fund, PACT Youth and Arnold Clark.
Communlty Foundatlon Wales
