The Trust meets its objectives by making grants to pijpils and former pupils of Bolton School who are

Again in line with the Trust's objeG15, the beneficiaries of the Trust's gr2nl-making programme are
primarily the pupils and former pupils of Bollon School. The Trustees consider this lo be reasonable in
view of the large number of pupils and former pupils who can potentially benefit and the range of

an open access policy in place for ils pupils. The School encourages children lo allend irrespe¢live of

The Trustees consider that the direct benefit that the pupils and former pupils receive from having the
opportunity lo enjoy and learn from the sorts of experiences supported by the Tiusl also has an indirect
benefit lor the wider community by improving those individuals, social skills and awareness. In certain
instances le.g. fundraising projectsl the activities the Trust supports can have a direct benefit on the

ability lo wntinue as 8 going concern for a period of al least twelve months from when the financial

Our responsibilities and the responsibilities of the trustees with respect lo going concern are described

Responsibilities of trustee$
As explained more fully in the trustees, responsibilities statement sel out on page 5, the trustees (who
are also the directors of the charitable trust for the purposes of charity lawl are responsible for the
preparation of the financial stalemenls and for being satisfied that they give a true and fair view. and for
such internal control as the trustees delerrnine is necessary lo enable the preparation of financial
slalemenls that are free from material misslalemenl, whether due lo fraud or error.
In preparing the financial stalemenls. the trustees are responsible for assessing the charitable Irusl's
ability ID continue as a going concern. disclosing, as applicable, mallers related lo going concèrn and
using the going concern basis of accounting unless the Iruslees either intend lo liquidate the charitable

Auditor's responsibilities for the audit of the financial statement$
We have been appointed as auditor under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 and report in
accordance with the Act and relevant regulations made or having effect thereunder.
Our objectives are lo obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a whole
are free from material mi5slalemenl, whether due lo fraud or error, and lo issue an auditor's report that
includes Dur opiriion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but is not a guarantee Ihal an
audil conducted in accordance with ISAS IUKI will always delecl a material misslalement when il exists.
Misstalernenls can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the
aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on
the basis of these financial stalemenls.

INDEPENDENT AUDITORS. REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE SCOTT BOLTON
TRUST
Irregularities, including fraud, are instances of non-complian￿ with laws and regulations. We design
procedures in line with our responsibilities, outlined above, lo delecl material misslalements in respect
of irregularities, including fraud. The exlenl lo which our procedures are capable of detecting
irregularities, including fraud 15 detailed below.
Extent to which the audit was consldered capable of detecting irregularltles. including fraud
Irregularities, including fraud, are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We identrfied
ancf assessed the risks of material misslalemenl of the financial slalements from irregularities, whether
due lo fraud or error, and discussed these between our audit teatn members. We then designed and
performed audit procedures responsive lo those risks, including obtaining audit evidence sufficient and
appropriate lo provide a basis for our opinion.
We obtained an understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks within which the charitable trust
operates, focusing on those laws and regulations that have a direct effect on the delerminalion of
material amounts and disclosures in the financi81 slalemenls. The laws and regulations we considered
in this context were the Charities Act 2011 and The Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008
together with the Charities SORP IFRS 1021. We assessed the required compliance with these laws
and regulations as part of our audit procedures on the related financial slalemenl items.
In addition, we considered provisions of other laws and regulations that do not have a direct effect on
the financial statements bul compliance with which might be fundamental lo the charitable IFusl's ability
lo Dperale or lo avoid a material penalty. We also considered the opportunities and incentives that may
exist within the charitable trust for fraud.
Auditing standards limit the required audit procedures lo identify non-compliance with these laws aDd
regulations lo enquiry of the Trustees and other management and inspection of regulatory and legal
correspondence. if any.
We identified the greatest risk of material impact on the financial slalements from irregularities, including
fraud. lo be within the override of controls by management. Our audit procedure5 to respond lo these
risks included enquiries of management about their own idenlificalion and assessment of the risks of
irregularities, sample lesling on the posting of journals, reviewing accounting estimates for biases and
reading minutes of meetings of those charged with governance.
Owing to the inherent limitations of an audit, there is an unavoidable risk that we may not have detected
sorne material misstaternenls In the financial slalemenls, even though we have properly planned and
performed our audit in accordance with auditing standards. For example, the further rernoved non-
compliance with laws and regulations lirrègulariliesl is from the events and transactions reflected in the
financial stalemenls, the less likely the inherently limited procedures required by auditing standards
would identify il In addition, as with £ny audit. there remained a higher risk of non-deleclion of
irregularities, as these may involve collusion, forgery. intentional omissions, misrepresenlalions. or the
override of internal controls. We are not responsible for preventing non-complian￿ and caEinol be
expected lo delecl non-compliance with all laws and regulations.
