– TRUSTEES REPORT 6[th] April 2022 to 5[th] April 2023
There is very little difference to the situation in India than in the previious year.
The cost of living is going up, similar to the crises here in the U.K. and there is still very little tourism, virutally none from outside India.
Schools have now re-opened and instead of renting a property to restart Happy Home, children are now being given extra tuition in smaller classes at our teachers’ homes.
We have still not completed Treetops Homestay in Kumily but have managed to make two further rooms on the second floor which has provided some work for our workmen from Tamil Nadu.
Certain necessary repairs have been carried out to our Kovalam Homestay again providing much needed work
The farming projects are continuing on a reduced basis but on one of the pieces of land we are hoping to have a shop to enable us to sell food and other items at reduced prices to the poor. The basic building has been built but further funds are need to complete the project. We are also hoping to include a small cafe in the property where we can provide basic meals at reasonable prices and even free to the very needy.
We are of course continuing to support the families of our Happy Home children when needed.
As in previous years we have had a number of donations which are greatly appreciated but several of our regular supporters have had to stop or reduce their monthly payments. However the Chairman and Treasurer is still managing to sell various items on Ebay and donate any profit to the Charity which has helped to supplement the loss of regular income.
We can only hope that during the coming year things will improve but only time will tell.
