– TRUSTEES REPORT 6[th] April 2021 to 5[th] April 2022
The situation in India is still desperate, even more so than ever. Added to the continuing problem of Covid are many other diseases which are prevalent and no one is safe from infection.
All schools are still closed and naturally it is not yet possible for us to re-open Happy Home or start the proposed Tuition/Dance Centre.
We are of course continuing to support the families of our Happy Home children when needed and the agricultural project is still functioning.
There is still no tourism, but in the hope that the situation will improve in the not too distant future we are continuing to extend the Treetops Homestay in Kumily. Fortunately the Treasurer was able to obtain a loan of just over £9000 from MBNA which has enabled us to built the second and third floors, no walls, windows etc., just the floors. This of course has provided much needed work for a large number of people from the village we support in Tamil Nadu. When funds allow this work will be completed so that we have ten to twelve rooms available for visitors.
We have managed to build one very basic room suitable for a driver if required by any guest.
During the year we have had a number of donations which are greatly appreciated but several of our regular supporters have had to stop or reduce their monthly payments. However the Treasurer has managed to sell quite a number of items on Ebay and has donated this money to the Charity which has helped to supplement the loss of regular income.
Hopefully during the coming year things will improve and we will be able to re-open the Tuition Centre and both Homestays.
