FINANCIAL REVIEW

Covid-19 impact

Covid-19 disrupted our normal programme of ministry and activities through most of 2020- and for a few months in 2021. We quickly adapted what we do with Virtual Church Services and we've been encouraged to see large numbers watching. Despite the inability to physically be together for most of this year, the Church community has stayed strong. The Trustees continued to ensure our core charitable objectives are still at the heart of all we are doing in London and beyond. Considering all that has happened this year, finances have remained stable enough with people mainly giving on-line and we have benefitted from the Government Job Retention Scheme.

Transactions and Financial position

The total income for 2021 was £966,693 (2020: £592,569). Of this £117,518 were restricted as set out in note 10 in the notes to the accounts. The total resources expended in the year were £964,708 (2020: £574,867).

The fund balance carried forward at 31[st] December 2021 was £54,362 on general unrestricted funds. The fund balance carried forward on restricted funds was £nil on 31st December 2021. The full Statement of Financial Activities is set out in the notes to the accounts.

The above results were in line with the expectations and budget.

Reserves policy

There is no general funding guaranteed annual income and therefore, as an acknowledgement of the financial risks accrued through the day-to-day activities and ongoing services. The Charity’s aims to generate sufficient unrestricted reserves to maintain operations for 3 months running cost and allow the services to continue.

The Trustees have adopted a policy regarding reserves, which should ensure that the unrestricted funds not tied into fixed assets will:

The policy is reviewed annually.

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

The Charity plans continuing the activities outlined above in the forthcoming years subject to the satisfactory funding arrangements.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Trustees express their sincere appreciation to all the individuals, especially the members, who have helped the charity over the years, and look forward to continuing support whenever possible.

A Trustees' Handbook provides Trustees with a comprehensive reference pack that includes the governing instrument, details of activities, organisational structure, assets, accounts, responsibilities and procedures of the charity. This handbook forms the basis for induction of new board members and staff and briefing of professional advisors. A meeting is held so as to give new Trustees an understanding of the charity and their activities. Training for Trustees takes place as and when training needs are identified.

Induction of new Management Committee members will wherever possible be undertaken by the two most senior office holders and most senior staff members who have already undergone the induction procedure (the inductors).

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any rrequirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an iindependent examination; or

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2020)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. Company status

London International Christian Church is a company limited by guarantee. The members of the company are the Trustees named in the trustees’ report.

Income

Incoming resources are accounted for on a receivable basis deferred as described below where appropriate.

Investment Income

Bank interest received is included on an actual receipts basis.

Government grants

Grants received in relation to the Coronavirus pandemic are accounted for as they fall due and included within the Statement of financial activities.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

In particular the policy for including items within costs of generating funds and charitable activities costs is:

Charitable activities

This includes the cost of goods and services and ancillary costs that have been incurred in charitable activities. The ministers are involved with such activates and therefore the relevant stipend costs are treated as direct charitable expenditure.

Allocation and apportionment of costs

The methods and principles for the allocation and apportionment of all costs between the different activity categories of resources set out above are:

The Charity's operating costs including staff costs, rent and other related costs. Such costs are allocated between types of resources expended and between charitable expenditure and management and administration on the basis of estimates made by the directors.

Page 13

LONDON INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH

The bases of the estimates used were a common sense assessment of the nature of the costs involved.

Depreciation

Depreciation is provided using the following rates and bases to reduce by annual instalments the cost, less estimated residual value, of tangible assets over their estimated useful lives:
