RPR Trustees Annual Report (Year Ending 2022)

Following the COVID-19 Pandemic the RPR Trustees and the RPR Manager agreed to extend RPR’s operation in a limited capacity to help other animal charities and welfare cases when required. 2022 subsequently became a busy year with many abandoned cats and kittens, including pregnant cats being handed into rescues and local vets. These included animals that had been purchased from breeders and over the internet by people during the COVID-19 lockdowns and which were being handed in when people started to return to work. Notably there were a number of Sphinx and Bambino cats which had become popular over the lockdown periods. However, people soon began to realise that these types of breeds required a great deal of care as they need regular baths to avoid them leaving greasy stains everywhere and also regular feeding to help keep themselves warm. Like most breeds these types of cats are subject to particular health issues, and sadly most cats were sold without any information about the type of breed. In addition to this there were an increasing number of kittens which required hand rearing. The RPR Manager (Mrs Patsy Smith) is very passionate and dedicated to ensuring the survival of all the hand-rears that came into the care of RPR.

Working on a reduced capacity with many cats and kittens requiring additional veterinary care beyond spaying, neutering and vaccinations, fundraising has provided an important source of income. This has been mainly achieved through online auctions of donated merchandise which has proved to be an effective way to raise funds with minimal outlay.

In noting the impact of the issues outlined above, the RPR Manager has continued to work tirelessly in a voluntary capacity over this period, having previously announced her retirement in 2019.
