The committee continues to be supportive and play an active part in the running of the whole setting. Unfortunately this year one of our committee members Karen Price passed away suddenly
Both the manager and deputy manager hold BA Hons in Early Integrated Childhood Studies, the manager also holds EYP status. All staff continue to update their training. Majority of all other staff in supevisor/key person positions have a level 2/3 qualification or are training towards this. All staff continue to access training provided by the local authority and we continue to be signed up to Noodle Now which is an online training platform for staff to access training at their leisure. This allows them to update their knowledge and feed this back to other staff at staff meetings to continue to improve practice. We also carry out in house training which is compulsory for all staff and on a needs basis. As a setting recruitment is very difficult, however having spoken to other managers this is a nationwide problem as it appears no-one wants to work in Early Years. We did recruit two apprentices in September 2021, however one left within 5 weeks and the second had gone by Christmas 2021. We have highlighted this with the local authority.
The nursery has remained busy and operating at almost full capacity. Unfortunately our Kids Club has remained closed due to the demand for this being very low, and it not being financially sustainable, but also us unable to recruit staff to operate this.
Financially we made a loss of £33,995. Unfortunately we feel this is down to the huge increase in the cost of living, utilities, national living wage etc. We are also very underfunded by the government for the nursery education funding, this is currently at a rate significantly lower that what we need to charge and does not appear to be increasing to anywhere near to what it needs to be for us to be sustainable. We continue to increase our fees to minimize this loss.
The setting continues to work in partnership with local schools and this is constantly improving.
