THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S REPORT
BY DENNIS ROBBINS
Introduction
Over the past year, The Hunslet Club has continued to deliver a
wide and diverse range of informal and formal activities and
programmes, engaging young people from across our
community. At the heart of our work is our open access youth
provision, which runs five evenings a week and remains a vital
service for young people. Alongside this core offer, we provide
an extensive progromme of activities including dance,
football, boxing, gymnastics, rugby, drama, and arts and
crafts. These sessions run seven days a week, totalling 112
individual activity sessions. In addition, our education provision
operates five days a week, supporting up to 60 students
ocross o brood ronge of vocotionol pathwoys. including
construction, cotering, borbering, music, public services,
beauty, mechanics, childcore, and orL
Further educational opportunities include Monday evening
vocational sessions, external school sports lessons, and
lunchtim8 and after-school clubs. We also deliver six large-
sca18 community ev8nts each year, attracting significant
attendance from across South Leeds.
Purtl¢lpatlon and Impact
This has been a highly successful year, with
a significant increase in participation across
all areas of delivery. Attendance at open
access
youth
sessions,
sports
and
recreational activities, and events has
grown substantially. Our youth sessions
regularly welcome over 100 young people
per evening, while combined sports and
recreational activities now see more than
300 young people attending the Club each
night. Excluding motch doys, the total
number of visits this year reached 81,000.
Our community events have also continued
to attract large and diverse audiences from
across South Leeds, reinforcing The Hunslet
Club's role as a central hub for community

Growth, Investment and Funding
With increased participation comes the challenge of
ensuring our facilities and resources can meet growing
demand. This year, we began the development of the
Hunslet Green site, supported by funding from the Football
Foundation and generous private donors. This investment
has enabled the delivery of a full-size, floodlit 3G pitch,
providing yeor-round training and playing facilities for our 17
football teams and 14 rugby teams.
HUNSLE
We were also successful in securing three yeors of Notional
Lottery funding to support our open occess youth provision.
Additionol smoller funding streoms continue to support our
core activities and progrommes.
Financial Pressures
The Government's announc8ment of increases to the National
Minimum
Wage
and
employer
National Insurance
contributions has placed additional finoncial pressure on the
Club and the wider charity sector. As we are unable to pass
these increased costs on to our members, we remain heavily
reliant on the continued generosity of businesses, funders,
and private donors to oddress the resulting shortfoll.
Futur• Plang
Looking ahead, we plan to make significant further investment
in our facilities. In August we secured a long-term lease on
The Oval, which has now been renamed The Hunslet Club
Sports Village. Planned developments include additional
changing rooms and a classroom at the Hunslet Club end of
the site, the creation of a catering and seated ar8a near the
Pavilion, and the installation of a paddle court for members
and the wider community. Further internal improvements will
also take place ocross both The Hunslet Club ond Oval
facilities.

Closing Statomont
The Hunslet Club is proud to provide high-quality facilities
and opportunities for young people in an area that is often
marginalised and overlooked. We remain fully committed to
delivering the very best for our members and the wider
community, ensuring young people hove the suppor¢ spoce,
and opportunities they need to reoch their full potential.

THE CHAIR'S REPORT
BY ANDREW BEADNALL
The Hunslet Club continues to be a place of joy. opportunity ond community for hundreds of
children and young people who access our facilities daily. We remain committed to providing a
safe, welcoming and inspiring environment where young people can grow, learn and thrive.
l am delighted to report that our new floodlit 3G Football and Rugby pitch was officially opened on
th
6 October 2025 by the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Ed Anderson, Jason Robinson OBE and
Abigail Lee of Leeds United Ladies. This new facility has enabled over 40 junior and senior football
and rugby teams from The Hunslet Club and Hunslet ARLFC to have an outstanding year-round
troining and match day facility. The majority of the funding was provided by The Footboll Foundation
through the Lionesses Futures Fund with supporting donations from the Liz and Terry Bramall
Foundation, Garfield Weston and Bernard Sunley to name o few. The pitch is already seeing record
breaking numbers and an important addition with two newjunior female teams at the club.
Despite ongoing challenges and limited support from stotutory bodies
including central
government, Leeds City Council and the West Yorkshire Mayoralty
the Club has once again
enjoyed a hugely successful and impactful year. Our members and the wider community benefited
from an extensive programme of activities across sporL the arts and personal development.
This success is a dir8Ct result of th8 d8dication and passion of our exceptional staff and volunt8ers,
all of whom are superbly18d and inspired by our 8xecutive t80m:
Dennis Robbins, Chief Ex8CUtive Off icer
Jennie Baldwin-Baker, Operations and Finonce Director
Ryan GronL Business and Education Director
The Trustees extend our sincere thonks to each of them for their hord work ond unwavering
commitment.

THE CHAIR'S REPORT
BY ANDREW BEADNALL
In October 2025, Leeds City Council informed The Hunslet Club that they would be unable to
continue their partnership with the Club and Onside Youth Zones in relation to the long-planned
development of a new, world-class centre for our members. This decision followed several years of
detailed discussions and negotiations and was explained as being due to changes in the Council's
funding position.
As o result, ond ofter coreful considerotion, the Trustees mode the diff icult decision to conclude the
ogreement with Onside Youth Zones. While this outcome is noturally disappointing for oll those
connected with The Hunslet Club, particularly given the positive impact the proposed development
would have had for our members, it has also provided a moment of reflection and renewed focus.
The Trustees remain unquestionably fully committed to the long-term future of The Hunslet Club. We
have unanimously given our full support to the Executive Team to develop 8XClting, ambitious and
sustainable plans that will 8nable th8 Club to continu8 to thriv8 and grow.
We look forword to sharing more about these plans during 2026.
As Chair of this remorkable chority, I remain deeply concerned that The Hunslet Club continues to be
the only bespoke-built centre serving young people in the City of Leeds. With appropriote financial
investment and sustoined support from locol ond centrol government both The Hunslet Club ond
the wider youth sector could reach mony thousands more children across the city - far beyond
South Leeds.
The talent within our membership is extraordinary. We therefore extend a warm invitation to
businesses, private sector partners and sports organisations to visit the Club, witness our successes
first-hand, and consider becoming active supporters of the Hunslet Club family. There is immense
potential for growth, but without external investment from the city and beyond, our ability to expand
remains limit8d.
This year, we were particularly proud to see our Chief Executive Off icer, Dennis Robbins, receive a
prestigious honorary doctorote from Leeds Beckett University. This honour recognises his
outstanding service to the City of Leeds ond his exceptional leodership of The Hunslet Club.
In presenting the award, the University's Vice-chancellor proised Dennis as..
"An extraordinary contributor to the City of Leeds.- who has improved countless lives, built sporting
careers and helped to create a stronger, fairer community."
On behalf of the entire Trustee Board - past and present - I congratulate Dennis and express our
immense gratitude for his exceptional leadership. vision and many achievements within our
community.
The Trustees are incredibly proud of what has been accomplished during this year. We remain
steadfast in our mission to provide high-quality, life-enhancing opportunities for young people and
are committed to securing the support necessary to extend our impact even further.

13

INDEPENDENT AUDITOR'S REPORT TO THE
MEMBERS OF THE HUNSLET CLUB FOR THE YEAR
ENDED 31 AUGUST 2025
Auditor's responsibilities for the audit of the financial statements
Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a
whole are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an Auditors,
report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but is not a
guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with ISAS (UK) will always detect a material
misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from froud or 8rror and are considered material
if, individually or in the aggregata, they could reasonably be expacted to influence the economic
decisions of users taken on the basis of these financiol statements.
Irregularities, including fraud, ore instonces of non-complionce with lows ond regulations. We design
procedures in line with our responsibilities, outlined above, to detect moteriol misstotements in
respect of irregulorities, including froud. The extent to which our procedures ore capable of detecting
irregularities, including fraud is detailed below:
We obtained an understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks within which the charitable
company operates, focusing on those laws and regulations that have a direct effect on the
determination of material amounts and disclosures in the financial statements.
The laws and regulations we considered in this context war8 the Companies Act 2006 tog8thar with
the Chorities SORP (FRS102) 2019.
In addition, we considered provisions of other lows ond regulations that do not have a direct effect on
the financial statements but compliance with which might be fundamental to the choritable
companys ability to operate or to ovoid a material penolty. We also considered the opportunities and
incentives that may exist within the charitable company for fraud. The laws and regulations we
considered in this context were Charities Commission Regulations and Health and Safety and
safeguarding considerations.
We identified the greatest risk of material impact on the financial statements from irregularities,
including fraud, to be:
Timing of recognition of income
Management override of controls to manipulate the charitable company's key performance
indicators to meet targets
Fund accounting - identification and treatment of restricted funds
Compliance with relevant lows and regulations which directly impact the financial statements and
those thot the choritable company needs to comply with for the purpose of operoting
14

INDEPENDENT AUDITOR'S REPORT TO THE
MEMBERS OF THE HUNSLET CLUB FOR THE YEAR
ENDED 31 AUGUST 2025
Our audit procedures to respond to these risks included:
Enquiries of management and the Trustees about their own identification and assessment of the
risks of irregularities,
Sample testing on the posting of journals,
Reviewing income documents and carrying out detailed substantive testing on the completeness
of income,
Reviewing restricted funds workings,
Reading minutes of meetings of those charged with governance; and
Obtaining confirmation from the trustees that there was no regulatory correspondence with the
Charity Commission or other regulatory bodies.
Because of the inherent limitations of an audit, there is a risk that we will not detect all irregularities,
including those leading to a material misstatement in the financial statements or non-compliance
with regulation. This risk increases the more that compliance with a law or regulation is removed
from the events and transactions reflected in the financial statements, as we will be less likely to
become aware of instances of non-compliance. The risk is also greater regarding irregularities
occurring due to fraud rather thon 8rror, as fraud involved intentional concealmenL forgery, collusion,
omission or misrepresentation.
A further description of our responsibilities for the oudit of the financial statements is located on the
Financiol Reporting Council's website ot.. This description
forms part of our auditor's report.
Usa of our report
This report is made solely to the charity's members. as a body. in accordance with Chapter 3 of Part
16 of the Companies Act 2006. Our audit work has been undertaken so that we might state to the
charitys members those matters we are required to state to them in an auditor s report and for no
other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to
anyone other than the charity and the charitys members as a body, for our audit work, for this
