Langton Community Hall Charity Annual Report 2021/22 From 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022 Charity Registration Number: 1123969

Introduction

This Annual Report (prepared by Chairperson, Anthony Lawton, and approved by Trustees) on the activity of the Langton Community Hall Charity covers the required sections and elements set out by the Charity Commission in its template for small charities.

Objectives & Activities

To benefit the residents of Tur Langton, Church Langton, West Langton, East Langton and Thorpe Langton and the neighbourhood, in the county of Leicestershire — without the distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions, and by working together with the relevant local authorities, voluntary and other organisations. The intention is a common effort to advance education and provide facilities in the interests of social welfare, recreation, and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for residents.

The trustees have power to establish or secure the establishment of a community centre — which they have done — and to maintain or manage or co-operate with any statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the charity.

The period in question was dominated by beginning to re-open to all groups after Covid restrictions (during which we enabled the Hall to be open for the school, to the exclusion of other users).

Activities, classes and groups have, when they could, included several people & bodies.

  1. For Clubs & Classes Church Langton Primary School used the Hall for a number of activities including a Breakfast Club and an After-School Club.

  2. For Sport & Fitness activity user groups continued to include: Market Harborough Table Tennis Club, New Age Kurling, Tae Kwon Do and the Welland Valley Cycle Club. Other activities have included: yoga, general keep fit, and pilates.

  3. Various Clubs/Societies met in the Hall during the year, including regularly the Langtons Art Group, Great Bowden Recital Trust and Harborough Big Band.

  4. For Social Events the Hall continues to be a popular venue for children’s parties.

  5. East Langton Parish Council usually meets in the Hall.

  6. The Charity published the community newsletter three times in the year, but has now decided to discontinue it as a charity-supported activity.

In carrying out our work we always do, and specifically during the year we are reporting here, had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

Achievements & Performance

In 2021/22 our objective above all — successfully achieved — was to re-establish successful operations as necessary, possible and legal to accomodate changing implications of the Covid rules for them.

Financial Review

The finances and financial performance are set out in the full annual financial accounts. Total Income for the year, including Covid grants, was £36,093. Total Expenditure for the year was £17,316.

Net Assets at year end were £116,110, an increase of £18,777. The majority of these assets are held in a Building Society, the balance in a current account.

The Charity is clearly a going concern, and has sufficient reserves in line with the adopted policy.

Structure, Governance & Management

The charity is an unincorporated trust, governed by a Trust Deed. It is led, managed and operated by a small group of volunteer co-opted trustees who meet regularly both to steer and govern, and operate, the Charity

The active trustees are currently (at January 2023):

  1. Gary Kirk

  2. Maxine Johnson (Bookings Trustee)

  3. Anthony Lawton (Chairperson)

  4. John Loney (Treasurer)

  5. Helen Thompson

Decisions are, by custom and practice made by consensus, but where necessary made by majority; if tied then the chairperson has a casting vote.
