equipment as well as general advice
and encouragement to beginners.

During 2023 we recruited three new
Para 1.38 volunteers who are able to carry out the
Contribution made by fine soldering needed to assemble our
volunteers particle detector product.
Other volunteers with specialist design
skills provide assistance as needed for
specific projects and products as needed.
This is in addition to the continuing work of
the Trustees and existing volunteers
building our other products.
A new Trustee was appointed in
November. Richard Knott was one of our
volunteers and was invited to become a
Trustee in November 2023. Richards
professional background in radiation
physics and teaching combined with an
enthusiasm for astronomy and outreach
was a good fit with the other Trustees.

In 2022 we started to sell a particle
detector which records the effects of
cosmic rays interacting with the Earth’s
atmosphere. We are not aware of any
similar device being available for sale
and the sales indicate that there is a
strong interest in cosmic rays from the
astronomy community.

The particle detector is being used by
schools and universities for teaching
physics (a STEM subject). We have
supplied educational establishments in
the UK, Spain, South Korea, Ireland,
Germany, Macau and the USA. The
detector was originally developed for
undergraduate teaching and we will
continue to encourage its use in
