## **Chair’s Report – Dan Burbridge**
The Cornwall Down’s Syndrome Support Group remains strong and continues to be a valued and supportive community for our families.
Firstly, I would like to thank our amazing co-ordinators who work tirelessly for our charity. Their work includes the complex administration required to run a charity, securing grants, organising events, supporting families and so much more. Their dedication ensures that our group continues to thrive.
I would also like to extend my thanks to our committee members for their continued commitment and support. In addition, I would like to recognise our wider team of volunteers, including the Cornwall Down’s Syndrome Local Advisory Group, and the members of that group who continue to give their time and energy to represent the voices of people with Down syndrome in Cornwall.
I would also like to extend a special thank you to those who continue to lead our Support Groups in Crackington and Lanivet. These groups provide an invaluable opportunity for families to connect, share experiences and support one another, and we are incredibly grateful for the time and dedication she gives to making these sessions possible.
It is with mixed emotions that I sit here writing this report and reflecting on the past year. With great sadness we have seen the passing of three of our members. During these difficult times our Down’s syndrome community has come together to support the families affected. It is a reminder that our group is not only here for the celebrations and achievements, but also to stand together through the hardest moments.
Since the last AGM we also said farewell to our incredible Dance Teacher, who made the difficult decision to step down from her role. Over many years they gave an extraordinary amount of time, energy and heart to our group. They delivered countless dance sessions and classes, supported dance qualifications and previously led a hugely successful dance programme that reached communities across the country. On behalf of us all, I would like to thank them for everything they have contributed.
I would also like to thank our Dance Co-ordinator, for stepping into this additional role to help maintain consistency for our dancers. The dance goes on.
I would like to recognise the amazing work being carried out by our **Local Advisory Group** . They continue to play an important role in helping to shape guidance for the new **Down Syndrome Act of Parliament** , which is hugely significant.
This specific Down syndrome guidance will strengthen the laws already in place, including the **Children and Families Act 2014** and the **Equality Act 2010** , and should help ensure greater consistency, accountability and better outcomes for people with Down syndrome across health, education and social care.
While there is still work to be done, this is a real step forward and a clear demonstration that our voices matter. I would encourage everyone here to take the opportunity to be part of shaping that future by engaging in the consultation process, which has now been extended. Links and further information have been added to our website, and your experiences and voices can make a real difference.
As a group we continue to face challenges in ensuring the best outcomes for our children and young people. Whether that is inclusion, opportunity or support. However, as a community we are winning important battles. Every time we see our children dancing with confidence, being included and reaching their potential, that is a victory worth celebrating.
We are also continuing to develop our work with **Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)** , which is being developed and delivered. We are extending our SALT support to an increasing number of our families. This is work we are very keen to continue growing, as we recognise both the importance of speech and language development and the ongoing challenges families face in accessing services for their children.
This year we have enjoyed several fantastic events. Our **Slip and Slide** event was attended by many of our members and, as always, was a huge success and it will be returning again this year. Our **summer party** was also a lovely occasion despite the weather, and it was wonderful to meet and chat with so many of you.
Finally, I must mention our **Christmas party** , which was the busiest I have ever seen it and not without a little drama. Our hearts went out to Father Christmas when he broke down on the A30, but luckily Christmas magic prevailed and the festivities continued.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our events throughout the year.
I am also delighted to share that this year we have the exciting opportunity to be part of the highly successful **Arthur’s Club** . I recently had the privilege of meeting with the leader of this incredible project. During 2026 and 2027 we will be involved in workshops and events helping to shape the project as it expands nationally. This is a fantastic opportunity for our group, so please watch this space and get involved where you can.
Finally, as Chair of the Cornwall Down’s Syndrome Support Group, I would like to make another appeal to our members to consider becoming a **committee member** . All we ask is attendance at six meetings a year to help shape the direction of our charity’s journey. We are a friendly group and meetings are held online, making it easy to take part.
Without a committee, our charity simply would not be able to function.
This group exists because of the passion, commitment and generosity of our community. Every event, every opportunity for our children, every piece of support for families happens because people step forward and give their time.
So if you are able to get involved, please do consider joining us.
Together we can continue building a community where our children and young people are valued, included, supported and celebrated for exactly who they are.

## **Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Cornwall Down’s Syndrome Support Group**
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of Cornwall Down’s Syndrome Support Group for the year ended 31 October 2025.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of Trust’s accounts as carried out under Section 145 of the and in carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5) (b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Basis of preparing the financial statements**
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
## **Taxation**
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
## **2. TRUSTEES' REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS**
