## **Trustees’ Annual Report for MySmallHelp for the year ended 31 March 2021 UK registered charity number: 1123830** ## **Section A: Reference and Administration Details** The charity’s principal address changed during the year to: Flat 4 Dorset House Stanton Road Barnes SW13 0EU United Kingdom The Trustees that managed the charity during the year were Josh Stamp, Lee Forsyth, Alistair Williams, Kim Karmozyn and Leander Hollings. Selection to the Board of Trustees is through election by serving Trustees. The charity is a trust governed by a trust deed. The Trustees met regularly through the year to review progress against the charity’s stated objectives and would particularly like to thank Raju, Binod, and Pramila for all their hard work, making this once again a very successful year to report on. ## **Section B: Structure, governance and management** MySmallHelp is a UK registered charity primarily set up as a fundraising arm to support partner projects overseas. During the period 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 funds were sent to MySmallHelp Nepal, a separate legal entity from MySmallHelp in the UK, which is independent and has its own local governance and control structures. ## **Section C: Objectives and activities** ## **C1 Objectives** During the year the objects of the charity were unchanged: - To assist children, young adults and families who are living in conditions of poverty, sickness and distress anywhere in the world in such ways that the Trustees from time to time see fit. - To advance the education of underprivileged children at selected schools in Nepal, Mexico and Peru, providing sponsorship of school fees, educational materials, school uniforms and provision of extra-curriculum educational courses This year the Trustees decided that the charity would concentrate on collecting funds for projects in Nepal. In planning the charity’s activities, we kept in mind the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit. The main focus of activity during this period was to find sponsors for individual children in Nepal to provide access to education for children who otherwise would not be able to go to school. Section D covers achievements and performance in more detail. Child Educational Sponsorship Project** Child educational sponsorship has been a key project since the MySmallHelp, Nepal was set up. We have been supporting and sponsoring children from different background who are especially poor, single parent and orphans. This year we have around 32 children who are sponsored for education. These children age range from 6 years to 28 years. Out of 32 children, 21 of them are girls and 11 are boys. Here are the lists of children who have completed their schooling and doing further course as per their interest. **GIRLS (9) Anita** Educational Support Year : Since 2007 She is in final year (4[th] semester) of Master’s Degree in Social Work in Ganpat University, India. It is a 2 years course with 4 semester. **Bipana** Educational Support Year : Since 2011 Bipana has completed her 3 year Bachelor’s in Optometry in Christian College in Bangalore, India. She is currently doing a year internship in hospitals of Bengaluru. **Hanna** Educational Support Year: Since 2007 Hanna has completed her 3 years Bachelor’s in Theology, Karala, India. Graduation Day: 14[th] April 2021 **Sarmila** Educational Support Year: Since 2007 Sarmila has completed her ‘Intermediate in Management’. She has completed studying A1, A2 German Language Course and looking forward to giving B1 exam. She is currently working in a Co-operative Finance Office. MySmallHelp Trustees’ Report for the year ended 31 March 2021 Page 2 ## **Rozy** Educational Support Year: Since 2007 Rozy completed her ‘Intermediate in Management’ in July 2017 and received Barista Training. After working in few places, because of her talent and skill she got an opportunity to work in Nepal’s best hotel. Because of Covid 19, she faced some difficulties but she is doing good and started working. ## **Kalpana** Educational Support Year: Since 2007 Kalpana is in 1[st] year of Bachelor’s in Business Studies. It is a 4 years course. She also works as a Teacher in Marybert School during day. ## **Rekha** Educational Support Year: Since 2010 Rekha is in 1[st] year of Bachelor’s in Arts with Nepali as major. It is a 4 years course. ## **Sushmita** Educational Support Year: Since 2007 Sushmita has completed her schooling and has joined ‘Intermediate in Humanities’ and it is 2 years course. ## **Alisha** Educational Support Year: Since 2007 Alisha has recently completed her Higher Secondary Education in Humanities (Arts) which was 2 years course. ## **BOYS (3)** ## **Rojan** Educational Support Year: Since 2007 Rojan is in 4[th] year or final year of Bachelor’s in Business Studies. He recently gave 3[rd] year exam. He is also working in a small shoe shop. He recently gave 3[rd] year exam. ## **Simon** Educational Support Year: Since 2013 Simon has recently completed schooling. He is in 11[th] Grade studying Intermediate in Commerce in Grand Academy. Covid 19, Lockdown support** Nepal faced more than 8 months of complete lockdown during Covid 19 pandemic. During these times, MSH supported children faced difficulties so to ease their daily problem. We hand cash depending upon their situation ranging from £50 to £80. We also received support from an organisation ‘Friends For Global Change’, USA. We support more than 15 children which supported some of their families too. ## **3. Child Friendly Educational Program with New Study Materials in remote school** Ladkeshwor School is a government run school which lies in the mountainous eastern part in Nepane, Balthali of Kavre district of Nepal. It is about 45 kms away from Kathmandu. It is a lower secondary school which means children from kindergarten (KG) to grade 8 can study in this school. Since it’s a government school, children are taught for free while teachers are paid by government. The local people are mostly Tamang community who are mostly back warded in many sector and education is one part of it. In order to uplift the community, providing quality education for children plays a main role. After building a school block with the support from Friends For Global Changes, USA (FFGC) and District Education Office, Kavre, the main challenge was to upgrade the quality of educational standard. To uplift the quality, ‘Child Friendly Educational Program’ was launched in April 2017 with the support from FFGC where 2 teachers were hired for the program. It has been 3 years now. There is lot of changes in overall school environment, children’s behaviour, their education. The teachers also focus on extra activities like singing, dancing, yoga, art and more. Because of Covid 19 pandemic, schools couldn’t run. The school was shut completely for more than 10 months. Even during pandemic MSH Nepal continuously supported this project till Nov 2020 but we hold this project for now. Also, we handed them with improvised books, copies and study materials. Women Entrepreneurship Development Project - SEWING AND TAILORING PROJECT** Nepal faced a big crisis because of ovid 19 and the lockdown started from March to August 2020. This affected many people, even labour from abroad were forced to return back. Many of them lost their job and struggling to survive. Sewing and Tailoring was much needed training for women to sustain and help the family from the crisis. ## **Situation of Selected:** The majority dwellers of the selected women are among marginalized, low income and willing make sewing and tailoring as a career in future. ## **Project Objectives** The overall goal of the project is to access of poor girls and young women to vocational training and to develop entrepreneurship skills. ## **Duration** Time Period: 9 months (August 2020 – April 2021) By the end of the project, we aim to - **Enhance capacity by providing training on sewing and tailoring skill of 15 women** - **The duration of the course is of 9 months.** - **To train 25 + clothing items** The training will include the work of cutting and sewing training of ladies; and other garments items. This project will help individual women to get skill conducts for women clothing which is on high demand. Christmas Treat for Children** Our dear friend Aaron, past volunteer, from UK came up with an idea of raising funds for over 15+ children of Marybert Orphanage and over 5 children living outside as a Christmas treat. A ‘JustGiving’ page was set up and Aaron helped us to raise £770. Here is the link https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/treat With that money we were able to do following things. 1. Report for the year ended 31 March 2021 Page11 ## **Section E: Financial Review** ## **E1 Policy on reserves** Much of MySmallHelp UK's income is derived from non-recurring sources and therefore has no fixed or predictable pattern. Expenditure is based on an appeals system through which funds are channelled directly to the point of need. Based on this background, the reserve policy is to make sure that total cash balances do not fall below £1,000 at any one time to ensure that MySmallHelp UK continues to meet the needs of the beneficiaries. At the financial year end, MySmallHelp UK had total cash reserves of £22,854, which was allocated to the General fund (£1,244), support for MySmallHelp Nepal (£13,805), and funds for future construction projects in Nepal (£7,805). MSH Nepal is currently working on a proposal for the refurbishment of buildings at Ladkeshwor (Devisthan), a government school outside Kathmandu, and the majority of the construction fund is likely to be used for this purpose. ## **E2 Financial statement review** During the year, MySmallHelp UK collected total donations and other income of £26,259 a decrease of £5,380 compared to the previous year. These amounts included contributions to the general fund of the charity of £868. Contributions received by the charity are allocated to the general fund when a donor does not dedicate the donation to a particular fund. MySmallHelp Trustees’ Report for the year ended 31 March 2021 Page 12 Page 12 Reflecting the charity’s success in raising funds this year and in previous years, donations of £16,325 were made to MySmallHelp Nepal. Operational costs for the year were £357, including Just Giving charges of £216. ## **E3 Financial controls** During the year, the Trustees reviewed internal controls and financial reporting and concluded that these controls were operating effectively, given the operational limitations that apply to smaller charitable organisations. ## **Section F: Other Optional Information** Nothing to report. ## **Section G: Declaration** The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees’ Report above and authorised signature of the report as shown below.
