**’ - Independent Examiner s Report to the Trustees of Foxton Pre School (Charity No.1123552)**

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts for the year ended 31st August 2021.

## **Responsibilities and basis of the report**

As the charity’s trustees (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (“the 2006 Act”).

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited for this year under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”). In carrying out my examination, I have followed the directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that:

- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; or

- the accounts do not accord with such records; or

- the accounts do not comply with relevant accounting requirements under section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or

- the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRSSE).

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Organisation**

Foxton Pre-School is a registered charity under number 1123552. Foxton Pre-School runs from Foxton Village Hall. The Pre-School operates 3 mornings, 3 afternoons and 3 lunch sessions during term time identical to those of the local primary school and is subject to Ofsted inspections. The Trustees employ suitably qualified staff to run the pre-school supported by a committee drawn from the parents of the children attending the school and other interested persons.

Foxton Pre-school became ‘Limited’ in the 2008/09 academic year, due to the Garden project; therefore, the Pre-school also reports to Companies House, Company No.06529682.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The principle aim of Foxton Pre-School is to provide an environment to enable children to develop through self-expression and creative activity while encompassing the Early Learning Goals. The setting aims to provide the following:

- Nurturing – relaxed and friendly with high ratio of adults to children.

- Balancing Creative activities with structure

- Stimulating & Instructive – to achieve Early Years Goals

- Harmonious – foster self-respect and respect to others

- Opportunities for play & self-expression

- Lots of outdoor play – fresh air, exercise and tend to our garden and nature.

- Preparation – for transition to Primary school.

## **Review of Progress and Achievements**

The year started with 14 children on our books and ended the year with 18.

Autumn term began with ‘all about me’’ topic, the children painted their self-portrait which we used for our welcome display. Unfortunately, due to covid we were unable to join school for their Harvest festival or Nativity which was disappointing but necessary to help keep us all safe.

We did Firework pictures – family trees which surprised some parents to find all sorts of people on their family tree. We had our ever-popular Christmas Activity morning, another huge success, if a little different due to covid – we didn’t have any parents in but each child left loaded down with lots

FOXTON PRE-SCHOOL; Company Number: 6529682; Charity Number: 1123552

of goodies they had made, along with a present from Santa, I think everyone went home exhausted but happy.

January took us into Chinese New Year and all the fun that always brings. The children did some wonderful paintings to depict the story of how the years came to be named after animals, they did some lovely Chinese writing under the direction of me – oh how I miss Janet during Chinese New Year activities, - they experienced eating with chop sticks, using their own unique style when they couldn’t quite get the hang of the technique needed. Made some very colourful lanterns, made cherry blossom trees using finger painting and also decorating twigs with pink tissue paper, and of course the fabulous Chinese Dragon they made in order to perform the Chinese Dragon Dance. and again, this year we had the very talented Fabs’ dance skills put to use in our Chinese dancing – this was performed by the Risings 5’s outside on the patio so the parents could watch from the other side of the fence.

We flipped pancakes, made healthy eating plates, all of which led us into Easter, where we had another activity morning doing spring and Easter activities again without any visitors

We had a good summer and spent lots of time in the garden, out on the patio, and generally making use of the Recreation Ground. During our theme of summer, we had among other things ‘camping week’ when the children ‘toasted’ marshmallows – the children had real marshmallows on forks which they toasted over a pretend campfire…. They really got into it. Making sure they didn’t get too close as the fire was hot and also blowing their marshmallows before eating so they didn’t burn their mouths!! And all over a pile of twigs and tissue paper!! Amazing imaginations.

We had beach week – which the children totally embraced – we had the sand on a tarpaulin and several filled paddling pools for the sea, and luckily the weather was on our side.

Also interweaved into all that we also had 2year old checks to do on the younger children, end of year reports, and development trackers on all the children.

Once again because of covid we didn’t have an end of year performance but we did have a lovely tea party on the patio to say goodbye to Margaret and finished the year with the End of Year Prom.

Again, a lovely evening with everyone dressed in their finest and definitely performing to the camera, and I think the children all enjoyed their last party at preschool.

The year was not an easy one, from navigating the rapidly changing government regulations and guidelines, to continuing to operate during the second lockdown. We all had to manage an increase in workload due to social distancing and increase in hygiene measures, all while keeping our children safe, happy and secure. We recorded only one case of covid during the entire pandemic and 10 children ‘graduated’ and went on to start primary school in the September 2021.

## **Finance**

Foxton Pre-school recorded an operating deficit for the year-end of £682.

We continued with reduced number of sessions and agreed to remain closed on a Friday morning for the whole year. We changed the start and finishing times so they did not correlate with those of the primary school, this was to reduce the risk of spreading covid. This all contributed to less income from fees and funding.

Unfortunately, Preschool were unable to undertake any fundraising this year, due to covid-19 restrictions, except for the Christmas Box activity.

FOXTON PRE-SCHOOL; Company Number: 6529682; Charity Number: 1123552

The Pre-School ended the year with cash and bank balances of £41,922. This includes £12,000 in reserve of ½ terms expenditure plus redundancy & PILN cost and administration. Also £5,000 has been set aside for Designated Funds.

We start the new school year 21-22 with 10 children on the books.
