Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
The year began for the charity overcast by a dark cloud of
uncertainty. The pandemic was still a great threat to a return to
normal and a mood of depression was felt in the community
We continued throughout the year to stay positive adapting to
the diferent situations and by the end of the year a new energy
was coming . covid restrictions had lessened and staf were able
to come back to work we ended the year feeling optimistic for
2022
In January 2021 we continued with the zoom programs. Initially
they had a positive appeal but as January continued the
attendance dropped considerably. They were subsequently
cancelled at the end of January with only the yoga online zoom
class remaining .
With the lockdown and the Covid restrictions there was no
activity for 2 months February and March
From April we established a new weekly event Harinam and
book & food distribution. This was a popular outdoor event
connecting with new people and helping to bring a more positive
consciousness to the community.
In July most of the restrictions were lifted and we re-opened the
centre. We chose an auspicious day “Guru Purnima “ and
celebrated by inviting the community together for kirtan and
Prasad.
From the July opening we re-introduced weekly programs,
Sunday Sat sang, Thursday yoga, nama-hatta and festivals
according to the vaisnava calendar.
At the end of September the regular weekly outdoor event was
stopped but the food distribution continued on Saturdays.
In the beginning of October we began a weekly indoor kirtan
event attracting new people.
From October the weekly programs were more established and a
new infux of people started to come especially for bigger
events.
We were able to start to re-employ our workers from the end of
July and by October everyone was completely of furlough.
Rakesh resigned from the board of trustees in July 2021.
We continued with the retreat project in Skegness. From March
we managed the maintenance and planting on the land. In
October we put in for planning for a barn/reception, 10 Eco
cottages, a large greenhouse and parking. Full planning
permission was granted on December the 16th subject to the
conditions outlined in the planning consent.
As a summary for the year, we got of to a rocky start but as the
year continued and we were able to be fexible enough to keep
an energy going, things improved greatly and by the end of the
year, programs were re-established and we received the good
news that our planning application for the retreat centre was
approved.
