Section D Achievements and performance
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year |
We had a positive out look for the start of 2020. Our regular programs at the centre were running smoothly. In the beginning of March the pandemic was looming and we took a decision to be conscious of the possible efect of the Covid and closed the centre for one month. On the the 23rd of March however the government announced a national lockdown. Due to the Covid restrictions we were not able to comply with the regulations and therefore the centre has remained closed for the rest of the year. We adapted to the situation by arranging some out door programs. In September and October we began outdoor Mantra Meditation and Kirtan events and also hired places suitable for our Sunday Nama Hatta events and Yoga workshops. These proved to be very successful with new people. We received a lot of positive feedback especially because the guests were feeling quite despondent due to the covid restrictions and it gave opportunity to get together. However the second lock down was announced in the beginning of November and therefore these events had to be stopped also. Since the beginning of December we began a series of Zoom programs. The regular programs we had at the centre namely Yoga meditation and Vedic discussion we replicated in a Zoom style format. This provided an opportunity to keep regular programs running and created a workshop style space for new people to get involved in yoga and meditation from the comfort of their own home. It’s a stable format that is not efected by the Covid restrictions or the weather. So we are looking into keeping this until the for seeable future. In December we re-established our Prasad distribution service posting healthy tasty vegetarian snacks to our community members and new people. This was received so well. We had many people writing back to us and also sending donations. Due to the volatile year we tried to innovate by employing people in diferent areas to accommodate our new outdoor programs and events online. However we had to put them on furlough when the lock downs happened and due to the centre being closed. The board of trustees changed. First of all Benjamin Ball joined as a trustee in October and in the beginning of November Rakesh Guran stepped down from being the chairman. In the beginning of November Ly Luft took the position of Chairman. The Skegness retreat project was confrmed at the beginning of November when a lease for the land was arranged and put in the charity’s name. We had 4 days of meetings to discuss the project and assume the necessary boundaries and the maintenance of the area. We discussed ideas of the retreat concept. It was decided that we will investigate into the appropriate planning for small glamping style accommodation to be put up around the pond and a possible barn to be erected. Looking into the new year 2021, we are a little apprehensive due to the experiences of 2020. Therefore we have decided to continue with our zoom programs and keep aware of the current policy’s suggested for the pandemic. The centre will remain closed and the employees will be kept on furlough until such a time as when we can safely re-open the centre. |
