## Group Lead Volunteer’s AGM Report 2024

First of all, I’d like to say that I’m incredibly proud of our District, and all of the young people and volunteers to make it so special.

Our census numbers have stayed pretty much the same with a very slight decrease in youth and adult membership, although most of our groups have substantial waiting lists.

We’ve had a great programme of District events including St. Georges Day at Great Tower, Scouts Taskmaster Camp, Scouts, Explorers and for the first time this year a Cubs Cooking Competition. Some of our Explorers joined up with Scouts from Europe for a week of pretty damp activities in Ennerdale in the Summer. There are still a few events coming up this year including the County Cooking Competition in December. Next year’s programme is also looking great with a few new events being introduced. I’d like to thank Liz Gabbot, Richard Hirst and their team for arranging these events.

Our provision for watersports at Killington Reservoir is going from strength to strength. We can now offer sailing, canoeing, kayaking, raft building and paddleboarding. Our young people have taken part in over 500 hours of activity on the water this year. Isn’t that just amazing! This wouldn’t have happened without the dedication of Toby Hubbard, and Richard Hirst so I’d like to say a huge thanks to Toby for this.

As you’ve probably heard, we’re going through a period of transformation in Scouts nationally. A change to where we work more in teams and make things generally easier for our volunteers. Our new digital membership system will hopefully go live next month with a whole new set of digital tools designed to make our lives easier. I’d like to thank Becky and Josh and everyone else who has spent many hours making sure that our data is up to date ready for transition to the new system.

Most of you will have heard that I have recently accepted a new role of County Programme Team Lead, which means that I’ll be handing the reins of District Lead Volunteer to somebody else. The search is on for my successor. If any of you know anybody, from either within Scouting or someone currently on the outside, who would like to take on this role, please have a chat with me or get in touch

All that’s left for me to say is a huge thank you to all of you and your teams for everything that you do, and everything that you are going to do to help the young people of our District. I don’t think you get thanked enough.
