The purpose of the ANU (UK) Foundaiion is to facilitate the advancemeni of education. The ￿Stee5
onfirm thai they have been referred io the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when
reviewing the foundaiion'5 aims and tA>jective4 in planning fvture activirie5, and selling the grant
making policy for the vear.
In 2020, the ANU (UK) Foundation activit1¢5 were supponing the Australian National Univet5ity
(ANU) by egtablishing and advancin8 relationshtps with Alumni, frier]ds and donor5. and raising funds,
5UPPOrting key programs and projects. These included the following..

Fundraising for thi5 Scholarship was a key aciivity for the Foundation in 2020. These funds will be
Used to support each year. in perrthity, an ALD $8.(K)O scholarship to on¢ ANU und￿gradllate
Student for th¢ duration of their 5tudv {up to fjve yeaT5}. Each student will also be invited to join our
12.month long First-year Experience program, developed in response kn our n¢￿ admissions sch¢me to
welcome students from regional. rurdl, remoie and low-SES background5 and ¢n5ure thev find
appropriate support and a sense of community ai ANL). The recipienl of the s¢holar5hip commencing in

researchers frorn ANU have eollect¢d data froln fanns across SouthEasiern Australia as part of one of
the largest. long-tem) SI￿dIeS of its kind in the worId. Sustainable farn15 ￿Pand5 upon ihis resear¢h
and includes frnancial and mental health research designed to f0T￿￿lY identify and eharact¢rise the
relationship between improved env[ron￿entaI management of agricllllural land, fami profitability and
the mental health of farniers. The project w'ill ensure famers are properly educated on th¢
environmental, finantial and rnental health ben¢fits of adopting su51ainable farniing and in dDing so,
promote the upt2ke of these prafflices_
e Clark Scholarshi
Each year the Aliu College of Asia and the Pacific may offer two award5 known 15 the Dr Claire
Clark Scholarship. focusing on International Relations and Public Poliry. The Claire Clark Scholarship
is awarded to students who have airwady demonstrdted outstsnding academic ability, as aEk indi¢ation of
their future potentiaI impact. The s¢holarship makes a lthing irnpact on a 5tudenVs life- enabling and
ercouraging them to pursue fvrther srudies which in ntm will Positively impact their life as a student
and their future professional rareer. The Claire Clark Scholarship is ihe highest level of scholarship
offered by the College.

this endowment is to provide support for the University's sirategic priorities. Funds are spent at the
discretion of the Vice-chancellor. Management and disbursement of fiinds will be undertaken by the
delegate who will review the fund Semi-annually and provide rec4)mrnendations to the Vice-chancellor
on the disbursemeni of these funds in support of University Sntegic priorities.

The main a¢hievem¢nt for the ANL (UK> FOUnd￿]0n this year is the number of d(wation5 received
frorn new donors. This has been a priority for the ANU Advancement Team &$ li continues to build
Stronger relationships with their Alumni. friends and donors promoiing the strategi¢ prioriti¢% for ANU
and ¢n¢ouragbng support for the ANU (UK) Foundation. OFparticular are the uenerous donations
from Allan Murray-Jones and Russell Clark to the AXU (UK) Foundation, and the events carried out in
London (both in person and vihThally in 2020) to h￿hlight the WOTk of the ANU.
Moving forwrf th¢ ANU (UK) Foundation Board are keen to build on the momenftun gained over the
last few years. Goals are to focus the Board's efforts on supporting 51fdteoic prioritie& gr(wth of th¢
Board membership. broadening and deepening •)gagement of UK Alumni. volunteers. frithds
attd don0￿ and further encournging philanihropic giving to the ANU (UK) Foijndation

The UK foundation is entirely reliant on donations and related gift aid. During this partkcular year. we
are ple￿d io report income from this source of £89.330 (2019 - £162.995). This has enabled u5 to
coniinu¢ making ￿an15 to Lhe ANL. Grallts of £145 J05 were approved for payment during this year
(2019- £165,9i7).
The ANU continue5 to support the UK fO￿datiOn by meeting the gov¢rnance and administration costs
incurred by the UK foun{1￿10￿.
RESERVES POLICY
The UK fi)undaiion is a UK charity with little operational objectives and activities. Its primary aim is to
help the furtherance of edu¢ation. to ANU. however not re5MCt¢d to. Therefor< reserves are not as
necessary as a charity that h&$ operational services that have beneficiaries, dependaftt on the svvices
carried out.
At the yw end the charity had unrestricted rtrerves of £947 (2019- £1.078). The policy of the bi]st¢es
for the lime being is to maintain only a small rcserve within its unrestricted Te$ou￿¢S fLmd. This is
because commitrnents will not be Tnade beyond donations Y￿e1Ved and the Australia National
University has agreed with Cha￿1 and York and the Company it will meet the costs of
adminisTrring the company and the charity.
GRANT MAKING POL
In furtherance of it5 chariiable objectives nobj abov< the UK foundation has made grants solely to
ANU. However. the truS￿e5 are op¢n to as5e5sing applitrations from any charitable organisation that is
working in the field of education and will asses5 each application based on its ability to contribut¢ to the
5trategi¢ aims and the availability of fimding.
