Oryanlsatlon ofthe charfty The trustees form an Executive Committee which is responsible for the management of Ihe charity. In making their decisions the Trustees tske advice from the Director of Music of Bath Abbey, rrentlY Mr Huw Williams. The Society has no paid employees, and its administrative functions are performed by the Trustees and other volunteers. The President of the Society. who has no exeojtive role other than chairing General Meetings, is the Rector of Bath Abbey, and the Chaiity operates in close hamiony with the Abbey authorities. Appolnknent of trustees The charity elects the Trustees and offices of Chaiman, Secretary and TreaSUr at its Annual General Meeting. The trustees can appoint new trustees and (xn appoint such trustees to the office of Chaimian, Secretsry or Treasurer from time to time. All Trustees shall retire with effect from the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting next after their appointment but shall be eligible for re-eledion at that general meeting. Objectlves and actfvltles The Obpcts of the Society are defined in the Constitution and are: To advan the mission of Bath Abbey by providing financial support for the Maintenance and improvement of the Abbey's choirs, music and musical equipment and facilities. b. To bring the music of Bath Abbey to the widest possible audience. c. To enhance Bath Abbey's capacity for charitable gNing by providing administrative and organisational support for fund-raising musical performan5 in the Abbey promoted by the Parothial Church Council {PCC), and d. To advance the musical and general education of the Choirs of Bath Abbey by providing financial and organisation support for choir tours and for perfonnances at venues other than Bath Abbey. Confidentfal external Infomialjon Bath Abbey Muslc Soclety Trustee's Annual Report (Contlnuad) Year ended 31 March 2025 Achievements and perfommn The Society promoted a series of organ recital in partnership with Bath Abbey, called Bach@Bath275. These started in November 2024. to lebrate the 275 anniversary of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. The Director of Music at Bath Abbey (Huw Wlliams), played the complete organ works of Bach on Bath Abbey's magnificent Klais orrJan. Each recital had a bar selling drinks, all proceeds for ticket and drinks sales went to Bath Abbey Music Society. The Boys Choir visited Paris in May 2024. which included walking tours of Paris and a boat trip on the Seine. The Boys sang with boys from the College Stsnislas and sang at the chapel of College Stanislas Not Dame sous Terre, Saint Sulpice and Sainl Eustache. They also visited St Paul's Cathedral in London in October 2024 and finished recording the new CD Everfasting Lht which was launched in June 2025 to lebrate 150 years of the Boys Choir and Lay Clerks. In June 2024 Girts Choir and Lay Clerks were part of a joint Evensong with the Youth Choir of Brunswick (Geany) to celebrate the Twinning of Braunschweig and Bath The Girfs Choir visited York in July 2024 and performed at York Minster. The Melody Makern led by Dewi Rees continued to thrive and had over 40 members during the year. They performed the Snowman in November 2024 and sand a combined cOnrt with Kingswood in the Spring. The Abbey Chamber Choir, established in 2022 continues to grow. It meets on a Thursday and sings about two services per month and was directed by Pewi Rees until April 2025, when the new directorAdam Field tskes over. On 1 February 2025, a special Evensong took place whlth Induded a World Premiere by Francis Grier Psalm 67. It was especially commissioned to lebrate the 150 anniversary of the Boys and Lay Clerks Choir estsblished in 1875. A Musical Soiree, was perfornied by the Bath Abbey cholrs ¢Jn 1 March 2025. Supported on the piano by Huw Williams and Dewi Rees, the choirs entertained a large audien with a light-hearted programme of songs from the shows, opera arias and choruses. It was a great evening and a great opportunty for the choristers and lay cleths to show(ase their amazing talenL There were a number of Solo Soiree's he5d in the Abbey Song School to allow members of the boys and girfs thoir the opportunty to perform in an intimate setting. In November the Abbey choirs gave a moving perfomiance of Bfahms A Gemian Requiem, for Rernernbran Day. Performed by carKllelight and induding the Piano duet and poignant readings. ifidential external infomuijon Bath Abbey Music Society Trustee's Annual Report (Contlnued) Year ended 31 March 2025 The BAMS concerts in December (A Christmas Celebration aThd Christmas Oratorio by J S Bach) were a gat success tsking record ticket and drinks sales. The Society plays an important role in the musical life of the Abbey and is always keen to encourage new members and provide opportunities to support music in the Abbey by helping as a volunteer steward or helper on the bar at music events, or as a Trustee for the Society. More recently the Society has supported successfvl bars at certain concerts throughout the year run by BAMS volunteers. The Society remains in good financial health and remains committed to supporting the musical life of the Abbey outside of the regular and necessary pattem of choral worship. The Society woukl like to take this opportunty to thank formally those who help its work; its volunteers who steward and run the bars at the Society's events. and the music shop, operations and finance staff of the Bath Abbey office who assist with the practical running of the Society. Financial Revlew The socids income was £48,001 for the year. Following expenditure of £34,297 the Society ended the year with a surplus of £13, 703. Reserves in the Society at the end of the financial year remain healthy at £89,081. The Reserves Policy states that at least £30,000 should be held in a separate investment account, the balance of the CCLA investment account at March 2025 was £34.205.70. Donations and incoming grants were £5,260 for the year, which is less than the previous year due to specific donations reIved in the previous year in relation to the Baroque CD and Chorister needs. Expenditure for the year was Slightly less than the previous year, due to increased cOnrt and tour costs, net off by a decrease in recording costs. The BAMS concerts in December 2024 and March 2025 were well attended and generated a surplus of £11,740. The costs and Inco for the Bath@BACH275 Organ Recitals Series were partly shared belween the Society and the Abbey, there re a number of recitals this year where all the proceeds were reIved by the Society. The recital series generatsd a surplus of £4,870. Recording sts Inrred in the year (£2,473) relate to the final instalment for the Boys New 150 Years CD, Everlasting Light that was launthed in June 2025. General administration costs are low and cover the cost of incidental expenses, the distribution of Infonnation to members. and the costs of preparing the annual accounts. A special choral evensong will take pla in June 2025 to launch the Boys New 150 Years CD, Everlasting Light. Alumni choristers will join the Bath Abbey Choirs in a Patronal Festival to mark the occasion. The Gids Choir will visit Belgium in July 2025, singing at the Menin Gate and in Ypres, Ghent and Oudenaarde. There will be a Rernernbran Concert as well as the two regular Christmas conrtS. General Inforniatlon The Charity is a public benefft entity and a registered tharrty in England and Wales and is unincorporated. The address of the principal office is 9 Kingston Buildings, Bath, BA1 1LT. 2. Statement of Compllance These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102, °The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland., the Statement of Recommended Prnctice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)(Charitss SORP(FRS 102)) and the Charities Act 2011. 3. Accountlng policles Basls of preparation The financial statements are prepared on a going conrn basis under the historical cost convention, modified to indude rtain items at fair value. The financial statements are presented in Sterling which is the functional currency of the charity and rounded to the nearest £1. The financial statements have been prepared to gNe a 'true and faiff view and have departed from the Charitss (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent required to provide a Irue and fairf view. This departure has involved following the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Ststement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordan with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities published on 16 July 2014 rather than the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice effective from 1 April 2005 which has since been withdrawn. Golng Concern The society has no regular financial MmItMentS other than the governan costs, including the preparation and examination of annual accounts, and other small administrative co&s, and is currently not obligated to make any dorkqtions or grants. There are, therefore, no material unCertainS about the chanty's abilty to continue. Stock consists of CD'S for Sale and an estimate of net realisable value has to be made for the slow moving or older CD'S. . Fund Accountlng General unrestricted income funds comprise those fvnds which the trustees are free to use for any purpose in the furtheran of the Society's chantable objectives. Designated unrestricted funds are funds designated for a particular purpose by the trustees. Restricted fvnds are fvrKls received for purposes specified by the donors and those funds are spent in accordan with the donor's wishes. Incoming resources Income reiVed in respect of concerts and recitals is recognised in the year in which the event took pla. Voluntary income is received by way of donations and gifts and is recognised when the charity is entitled to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received, and the amount can be measured reliably and is not deferred. Analysis of charitsble funds (contlnued) The Boys 150 anniversary fund is to be used to support the costs of the boys, choir This includes choral tuition and transport. The Choral Scholarship Fund is to be used to support the choral scholars. The legacy Income from Ms NEV Raisy is used to create a restricted fund to support the fuiure development and participation of boys in the choir. including the funding of touts, concerts and recordings. The funds in the year to March 2025 were spent on the Boys Choir Tour to Paris. Sandra Le Merchant donated funds to be used to support children with the greatest needs to give them equal opportunity with the other choristers. It should be used to fur transport both to Bath Abbey and on tour, as well as music lessons. 17.
