Achievements and perfommnce
The Society c￿￿om0t8d a sunTher series of Tuesday lunchtime organ recitals in
partnership with Bath Abbey. called Tuesdays@1. These started in May 2023 on the newty
deaned and refurtxshed Kl•s org￿.
The Boys Cholr vlslted PortsnY)uth and SallstAJry Cathedrals In Ayll, %thlch Included tours of
the PortsrTh)uth Dockyard afKI the SaliS￿ry cath￿ra1. The Boys sang bmth boys from
Portsmouth Cath&Jral school and Salisbury Cathedral School.
The Girls Choir visÉted Aix-en4Jroven(* in France and perfom*d at the Avignon Cath￿Iral.
At the cathedral the rmming service was broadcast line on a French r*lio ststion. It was a
fulfilling and irEKxriTrJ tour, good for musical and so(aal reasons.
The Melody Makers led by Naoni MacLeod Jones until July and then Devil Rees from
September, continued to thrive and had over 40 members during the year. A Summer
Musical Finale concert sung by the Melody Makers and the I￿lIS Cathedral Song Squad,
brought a lively mtxed repertoire in a concert to celebrale the end of their musical year.
Th8 Abbey ChaM*￿r Choir, establish￿ in 2022 conlinues to grow. It meets on a Thursday
and signs about two seNices per month and is dlracted by Dawl Re88.
A concert celebratIr￿ the Coron8tlon of Klng Charles111 took ￿8c8 In May, Including muslc
from past coronations arKI royal events. The Abbey chrArs of Melody Makers, Boys, Girls and
Lay Clerks joined tc¥ether in a glorious evening of Royal music.
The Across the Pond Concert In July was the ￿let￿tion of the s[￿da1 relationship with
music anticipatirvJ Ihe feslivity of Ameri(zn Indep8ndence Day. Bernstein's exciting
Chichester Psalff6, set to a Hebrew text, fom the centre￿e¢e of this concert with 8rits.sh and
Amarican them88, sung by tha Laycl8ts and th6 Boys aThl Girls Choirs.
The Gaia Exhilit was in Bath Abbey In o￿ober. and a womenade conc8rt was held for an
evo(xtive arml mesmerising eveniTV of rn￿1¢ u￿ler the Gaia Exhibit.
There were a number of Solo Soiree's held in the Abbey Song School to allow members of
the boys and girls choir the opportunity to perforrn in an ints'mate setting.
In November the Abbey choirs gave a moving perf0m￿nCe of Maurice Dunffié's much loved
and evocative Requiem, for Rememlyance Trdy.
The BAMS concerts In DeCe￿r (A ChrislThAs Celebration and HarKJel's Mesiah) were
accompanied by the re-launch of BAMS with new trustees appoint￿1 earlier in the year. The
re-launch induded a 2024 calendar and a singng Chiistrnas card, as well as the opportunity
for new members to join BAMS.

The Boys tour to St Paulb in London was pwned due to tube strikes. and they started
recording for a new CD celebrating 150 year5 of the Bath Abbey Boys Choii, with CRD
Records
The Souety plays an important role in the music21 life of the Atthy and is always keen to
encourage new rnernbets and wovides oppottuniiie51o SUp￿rt music in the Abbey by
helping as a volunteer st￿ard or helper on the bar at music events, or as a Trustee for the
Society. More recenty the Society has run successful ba￿ at Certain concerts throughout
the year run by BAMS volunteers.
The Society remain5 in good financial health aThl re￿InS corrmitted to supportiThJ the
musical life of the Abbey outside of the regular and necessary pattem of choral W0￿h1p.
The Society would like to lake this opportunty to thank formally those who help its work; its
volunteers who steward the Society's events. and the music shop, operations and finance
staff of the Bath Ablw office who assist with the wartscal runniThJ of the Socyety.
Financial Review
The Sodety's Income was £50,916 for the year. Folobm'ng expenditure of £33,212 the
Society ended the year with a kyofil of £17,704. Reserves in the Soaety at the erKI of the
Ilnanci81 year remain healthy at £73,878. The ReseTves Polcy ststes that at least £30.000
should be hekl in a Se￿rate investr￿nt account, the balance of the CCLA invostnwnt
account at March 2024 was £32,591.14.
Donatlons and incomlng grants were £16,555 for the year, which is than the previous
year due to donations to the boys 150th anniversary fund received in the wevious year.
Expenditure for the year was less than the prgvious yaar dua to the funding of choir tours to
France and Holland in the previous year.
The two christ￿rdS concerts in D8ceMt￿r 2023 were well attend￿ and generated 8 surplu8
of £7,622.
The costs and income for the Organ Reatsls Series Tuesdas
1 are shared between the
Society and the Abbey. In 2023 the recrtal series generated a surFlus of £1,705.
The 2024 calendar generate a deficit of £307, tt was mainty for promotional purFK)ses to
support the re-launch of BAMS.
Recording costs incurred in the year (£15,269) relate to Baroque and Boys New 150 Years
CD. Baroque sales in the year are set against these costs. CD Sales for the Boys new CD
will be in the next financial year.
General administration costs are low and cover the cost of inadental expenses. the
distribLrtion of infotmation to mernbe￿. arKI the costs of pyeparing the annual accounts. The
Society beneffts from tax rebates urKler Gift Aid.
Plans for the future
Future plans include organ recrtals, concerts and tours. as well as the forrr￿tIOn of a fund-
raising comnittee the aim of FYovi(fing a sustainable source of income to support BAMS

The Boys Choir will tour Paris. Fran￿ in May 2024, siryirvJ at the College Stanislas Notre
Dame sous terre and Saint SuFlice.
John Rutter will coThJuct a special concert in June 2024, induding his Mass of the
Children sung by the Gits and Boys Choir.
The Gits Choir will visii York in July 2￿24, siNJing in York Minster and touriro the ￿ty.
There will be a Remembrance Concert &% W8118s the two r￿ulaT Christmas Concerts.
The tw's new CD celebrating 150 years of the tM)ys' choir wlll b8 released in 2024, with a
joint celebrats'on concert with the Girts Choir celebrating 25 years, called Music 175.

The Charity is a public benefft entity and a regIStsr￿ chaiity in EThJland and lth)es and
is unincorporated. The ￿1resS of the princ#pal office is 9 KirKJston buildings, bath, BA1
1LT.
2. Statement of Compliance
These finantial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102, "The
Financial ReportirvJ Standard applicable in the UK and the Republc of Ireland., tho
Statement of Recommended Practs'se applicable to charits'es preparing their accounts in
accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applcable in the UK and Republic of
Ireland (FRS 102)(ChaFities SORP(FRS 102)) arKI the Charities Act 2011.
3. Accounting policies
Basis of pr•parnlion
The fjnanaal ststements are wepared on a goiTrJ con¢em basls under ttistOTtcal cost
convention. modifieAI to Ind￿le certain ite￿£ at fair value. Tr finanaal statements are
pr&sented in Sterling which is the functional currency of the charity and rounded to the
nearest £1.
Th8 fin8nclal statements have been prepared to give a Iru8 and fairf view and have
departed from the Charftl8s (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent
required to provide a Irue and fair vithy. Thls departure has involved following the
Accounts'rvJ and ReportirvJ by Charities: Statement of R8comThndod Prath"se ap￿1¢able
to charities preparirvJ th8ir a(Lounts in accordan(% with the Flnancial Reports"ThJ Standard
for Smaller Entth'es published on 16 July 2014 rather than the AccountirvJ ar￿ Reporting
by Charits'es.. Statement of Recommended Praothe effective from 1 Awil 2005 which has
since been withdrawn.
Going con￿rn
The so(aety has no regular financial comnjtments other than the govem8nc£ costs,
including the preparab'on ar¥J exarrination of annual accounts, and other small
administrative costs, and is currenty not Obl￿ated to make any donations or grants.
There are, therefore, no ffAterial uncertainties about the chaiity's ats'lrty to conts'nue.
Disclosure Exemplions
The entity satisfies the criteria of being a qualifying entity as defin&l in FRS 102 and
advantsge has been taken of the foknying disdosure eXe￿tiorfS available under
paragraph 1.12 of FRS 102:

The charity mawestirnates and assumKAions concerrdng the future. The resultÉng
accounliry eslimates will, by definilion. seklom equal the related actual results. The
estimates and assum￿l0nS that have a signifjcant risk of causing a material adjustment
to the carrying amounis of assets and liabiltlies witlx'n the next financial year are
addressed below.
Stock consists of CD'S and Calendars for resale and an estimated net realisable value
has to be made for the skw moving of older CD'S.
Fund Accounting
General unrestricted income furKfs comwise those fund5 whlch the truste8s are free to
use for any purpose in the furtherance of charitable obiecaives.
Designated unrestriLtsd funds are funds designated for a particular purpose by th8
trustees.
Restricted funds are furxts receded for wrposes speafied by the dorK)rs and thos8 funds
are spent in accordance vrfth the donoTr wishes.
Incoming resources
Income received in [8sF￿￿ of concerts and re¢itsls is rec(Vn￿d in the year In which the
event took place.
Voluntary income is receNed ty way of donations and gifts and 18 recognlsed whan the
charity is entitled to the furKls, it is probable that the income will be received, and the
amount can ￿ measur￿1 reliabty and is not deferred.
Income tax recoverable in on Gift aid donalions is recognIs￿ when the donation is
received.

The value of services wovided by volunteers is not incotporated Into thase financ4al
statements.

Andraw Fletcher donated fiJThJs to cover costs for the recording of the Barwue CD,
the funds were spent on re(x)rding CLEts.
Sandra Le Merchant donat￿ funds to be used to support children vth the greatest
needs to gNe them equal opportunity with the other choristers. It should be used to
fund transport trM)th to Bath Atthy and on tour, as well as music l&ssons.
