PTA Chair AGM Report for 2024/2025
What a brilliant and successful year we had! We continued to produce a number of fabulous events for our children, parents/carers and our local community whilst raising much needed funds for our children’s school. Given times are tough, cost-of-living is high and parents/carers have very little free time, we managed to make such a difference to our school. Thank you!
Over the last 12 months, we have continued to sign up to and promote UK wide PTA initiatives to help raise additional funds without having to sign up volunteers. These include: Easyfundraising, Astra Recycling, Asda Cashpot and Stikins Fundraising. These are lovely easy fundraisers which require very little work but simply pay up every month.
Our Partnership and Grant work took a backseat during the last 12 months. This was purely down to volunteer time and it is hoped that this can be picked up again in the forthcoming year. Towards the end of the academic year, two additional volunteers with significant backgrounds in this subject area kindly stepped forward to help create more partnership opportunities for the school. Fingers crossed, this will produce lots of opportunities for us!
September 2024
As we started the new academic year, all Reception parents were handed a little PTA Welcome Pack introducing the Northgate Association and its role together with a teabag, biscuit and a pack of tissues to help them through their first day of Reception. This was well-received.
During the first few months of the academic year, our Pre-loved Uniform shop was a fantastic resource for parents/carers and was regularly supported by donations. Sales were regularly held in the School Office. However, later into the academic year, the School decided they wanted to remove the Uniform shop from the School Office area, as it could get messy at times in their reception area, with a view to housing it elsewhere. With space being limited, it took a while to resolve this issue and a new Pre-loved Uniform Shop will be ready to open in September 2025. This will be located in the area between the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds. The shop will be open at every pick-up for parents/carers to make purchases via a QR code on their phones.
October 2024
We held our popular Halloween Lollipop and sweet treat sales in October which were well received and sold out by the end of pick-up. These sales are nice and quick easy earners. And help parents with hungry children at the end of the day!!
November 2024
Our Fireworks Night took place in November and what a night it was including the weather just being perfect! A sold-out event! We enjoyed a wonderful variety of food and drink vendors. We had glow items, a sweet stall, PTA games, face painting and glitter tattoos. This is always a wonderful community engagement project that is loved by families and the local community. It was our most successful Fireworks night to date raising a significant sum of money. Thank you to Russell Property for supporting our event.
December 2024
The PTA supported the following Christmas events at the School:
-
Russell Property Christmas Card Design Competition.
-
Elfridges Shop. This was new for 24/25 and was a massive hit!
-
Christmas Cards and Gifts through Prontaprint.
-
Christmas Tuck Shop
-
Christmas Pantomimes with snacks and drinks.
-
Christmas Dinner supported with crackers and juice.
-
Christmas Break the Rules Day
January 2025
During the first part of the 2024/25 academic year, we made a decision to close the Northgate 250 club. We wanted to continue with a lottery but the current lottery was too manual and labour intensive. We required automated draws and payments and therefore we looked to bring in an external provider. After a lot of research and time spent reviewing various set-ups, a decision was made to go with the Parent Lottery and to reopen it as the Northgate Association Lottery in January 2025.
We now have a PTA Lottery Lead who deals with all month-to-month queries and any dealings with the provider. So far we have 53 direct debits set up for the new Lottery and it was accepted by all committee members at the start of this process, that the new Lottery would take some time to reach the registered numbers of the 250 club. Things have been improving month on month and continue to do so.
February 2025
We held our first ever Well-Being event at the school. With our lives being so busy these days juggling work, school and families, we felt we needed to embrace mindfulness and relaxation. It was an incredibly exciting new addition. It was led by a committee member who took us through sessions of yoga, mindfulness and an incredibly effective sound bath. Each participant was given a rose and a well-being card to continue with the mindfulness. It was a very enjoyable event and it was agreed that we need to hold further similar events at the school.
March 2025
As we headed into Mother’s Day, we set up our usual Mother’s Day shop for the children. A number of different gifts were purchased, wrapped in beautiful gift packs and sold in our shop. The gifts were a hit with children and parents/carers and looked stunning. Lots of great feedback was received for our popular shop.
In March we also held our Book Fair. This project is a nice and simple project to run as the books are provided by an external supplier with no outlay for the PTA. The Book fair was held after school and during the School Discos below. In return, the School made about £500 worth of vouchers in order to buy books for the school library which were spent almost instantly!
This month we also held our Discos. As per previous years, we held two events, one for EYFS/KS1 and the other for KS2. Both were incredibly successful. We removed the option of hot food this time but ensured that we had a variety of snacks for children to purchase. Removing the hot meal meant that it was less stressful and required less tidying up. This event is always a hit for the children as they love the independence of bringing their money for the snack stall, dressing up, dancing and chatting to their friends. The team made a significant amount of money at this event and it would be good to replicate that in the future.
At the end of March we also held our Break the Rules day. An easy, simple and good fundraiser.
April 2025
Given the way Easter fell during this year, we didn’t hold any PTA events during April
May 2025
May was a quieter month than in previous years, but there was a significant amount of preparation for the forthcoming Summer Fayre taking place.
June 2025
June was our big Summer Fayre month and what a day we had. We were incredibly lucky to receive £1,000 from Russell Property to support this event which was simply amazing. There was lots to do at the event; we had a number of bouncy castles and fairground rides which are always popular with the children plus a very popular Petting Zoo. We had face painting, glitter tattoos, our famous tombola; we had a number of food and drink vendors and we also had games galore including the football dartboard, coconut shy, tin can valley plus mini golf. Plus we had our AMAZING raffle with lots of prizes donated by local businesses. Our top prize was a £500 gift voucher. We also had a number of local businesses selling their goods, a performance arena showcasing our Teachers’ Tug-of-War, wonderful choir, cheerleaders and karate performers. A huge thank you to everyone who supported us. We raised £5,000 which was on a par with 2023/24 but, as we had less sponsorship this year, it was actually a more positive outcome.
The event received a full one page spread in the Bishop’s Stortford Independent newspaper with some beautiful pictures and a lovely write-up.
The Father’s Day Shop also took place in June and was a very successful event. Again we received lots of positive feedback about the items that were sold from children, parents and staff. An excellent profit was made even though we received no sponsorship for this event. The gifts looked amazing again.
July 2025
We held our Sports Day After Party this month. We had a number of food vendors together with a very popular PTA bar selling out of Prosecco, Pimms and beer! We held colour runs that evening which were enjoyed by all kids and parents!
It was confirmed this was an expensive outlay project and felt it needed to be reconsidered for next year if the profit is indeed worth the work and expenses.
It was confirmed that it was a quieter event than in previous years (this may be due to the weather being incredibly hot) and indeed the event finished an hour early.
As always in July, we held our popular ice cream sales at pick-up. This is a lovely simple event that makes everyone smile at the end of the day. We were very lucky to have a match-funder this year who matched all sales taken on the day which meant a good profit was made on this event. Thank you to our funder.
At the end of the Summer Term, we held another Break the Rules day which the children always enjoy.
Wow- what a year!

But the time has come for me to say goodbye to the role of PTA Chair after 4 years and 7 on the Committee, as my son left Northgate Primary School in July 2025.
A massive thank you to the amazing PTA team who have supported me day and night to deliver our events! There is so much that goes on behind the scenes of the PTA that no one sees, but it is essential to the running of the team. You are all fantastic and it has been a total pleasure! I will miss you loads.
Thank you to the staff members who have also supported me and listened when I’m stressing about events.
And to our wonderful community of parents/carers who have volunteered, thanked me on the school run or bought a ticket to one of our events, thank you. They made such a difference.
We can only run these events with the help of volunteers. Whilst we want to organise more events, we cannot rely on a handful of volunteers. The PTA is a group of predominantly busy working parents trying to raise much needed funds for our School, have some fun along the way and provide our children with enjoyable activities. Events will only continue with volunteers’ help. So we need to continue to encourage our parents/carers to lend us their support and help us out in anyway they can.
Here’s to a successful 2025/26!
Best wishes Geri
