Introductlon
Rosemary Gardens Play8roup (The Playgroupl is set in a community park in an inner-city area in
c105e proximity to a large housing estate on the borders of Islin8ton and Hackney.
The Playgroup15 Qpen for 38 weeks a year from Monday to Friday durin8 tenn tlme. Our opening
hours are 8.30 am to 3.30 pm to accommodate parents who have other chlldren at school.
The Playgroup provides funded early education places for children 24 years old. The Playgroup has
24 places for 24-year-old5, of which 4 are for 2-year-olds (8 part-time equivalents). The Playgroup
has children from dlfferent soclal classes and multicultural backgrounds.
All staff at the Playgroup hold an appropriate early years qualiflcatlon, elther level 2 or 3. and the
manager has an early years degree.
All staff are en8a8ed In continuous professional training and provlde chlld-centred learnin8 5UPPOrt
and work wlthin the framework and standards of the Early Years Foundatlon Stage.
A good partnership with parents and other professlonals helps Involve parents in their childlren's
learning. The Playgroup can also acce5S the relevant support to provide good learnlng and care to
the chlldren.
The Playgroup is well set up to accommodate the dlfferent needs of the dlfferent ages of the
children. There are different resources for the 2-year￿Id$, such as quiet areas, learnin6 resources
etc.
The Playgroup malntslns good relationships and partnershlps wlth parents, whlch contlnues to be
one of the main stren8ths of the Play8roup. Before a chlld is enrolled, parents wlll visit to look at the
settln& flll In an agreement form, and on the first day when a chlld attends, the parent Ss requlred to
stay for an hour and then bulld It up overthe course of a week.
Parents are encouraged to glve feedback at regular revlews and In the comments book, whlch the
Play8roup would use to Improve chlldcare servlce.
The Playgroup has a Team Around the Chlld ITAC) system set up. and the TAC meetin85 take place
every slx weeks to revlew the chlld's learnlng and development plan. The TAC Involves multl-
professlonals and parents/grandparents/carers working together to deliver an inte8rated package of
support to meet the needs of chlldren and famllles, as Identlfled durlng the assessment process.

Aprfl 2023: The chlldren walk around the park area under staff super4*lslon. Chlldren study nature
and how the Spring season starts afresh, brin8in8 8rowth to new plantsi providing a new foundation
for blodlverslty and how people enjoy these throughout the year. Children picked up small cut-down
tree parts, whlch they used to make hammers and tacks, and made wlndow frames and doors to
build what they called a fairy house. This was dlsplayed in the Playgroup for parents to see.

May 2023 -Trip to the local canal. It was for children to study the wlldlife, including the fish. The
children looked at how the water birds live and look after their chicks. Whattype5 of fish and
amphibian habitat are in the canal? What Is the difference between frogs and toads, and how do
they differ?
Children looked at boats that travelled uslng the canal and how some Ilved In canal boats as their
homes. After the canal visit, the children bought recycled cardboard from home and made boats
from cardboard. all enjoyed the boat-makin8 activities.

Vlslt the local sports centr• - vlslt our local Britania Soft Play area. All parents accompanied their
chlldren. We were fortunate to have one of the child's parents worklng at Brltinia, who made the
area avallable for our playgroup to use solely on the day. It was an eX￿lIent, leisurely and playful
day for parents and children. It was also a good opportunity for parents to get to know each other
and discuss our playgroup activltles and how we could improve them.
Use of lo￿4 Rosemary Gardéns - As the Play8roup Is located within the park, children can use st for
outdoor activSties. One of the activities was for children to use the magnified glasses, search for.
mlnl-beasts, and declde what they are known as and how they Ilve In the park envlronment.
Eld Celebratlon - Durin8 this month, children also made Eld cards and decorated the playgroup to
markthe end of Ramadan with Eld cards and Eld Mubarak greetlngs.
Legoland Summer Trlp: all parents atcompanied thelr chlldren. Thls was another successful event
with parent5. All who came on the trlp enjoyed it, and parents were gettin8 to know each other and
discussed thelr chlldren's transltlon to school. Some parents sald the dlscusslon wlth other parents
on thelr chlld's transitlon to school has helped them understand the process better, and hopefully
wlll help their chlld to settle In qulckly and set thelr chlld on the path to successful learnlng.
Teddy Bears Plcnlc- thls was held In the park. All chlldren brought snacks and drlnks Sn thelr bags
with their teddy bears. Our Play8roup had solely used the outdoor splash parl which chlldren
enloyed.
Sports Actlvltles- Thls month, one day was allocated to use the football pltch only for the
Playgroup, We used thls for our 5POrts day. All parents got Involved and took part in the artlvltles.
Graduatlon Party- a graduatlon ceremony was held for those leavlng the Playgroup to say farewell
to them and wlsh them successful leamlng and careers in thelr new schools. A leaving presentation
was made.
September 2023. More new chlldren started. The retumlng chlldren to the new term helped us to
support new chlldren In settlln8 Into our Playgroup.
Celebrated Black Hlstory Month - We focussed on Garret Morgan, who called hlmself "Black
Edision". We looked at his inventions. mainly the Traffic lights and how the Amber light was invented
to Go and Stop traffic lights. Followlng this sesslon, the children made their own Sets of lights. We
then asked the pa￿nts to show theSr chlldren how the Amber trafflc Ilght works on the traffic lights
and what the children must do on Amber traffic lights as well as what the other road users, Ilke the
motor15ts, have to do on Amber trafric Ilghts.
One of the other activities for Black History Month was for children to listen to reggae and rap muslc
and use the sound to make up short rhymes. The theme also induded how rap music stemmed from

the USA in the early 1970s and became part of popular muslc in the USA, UK, and other part5 such as
the Afritan continent.
Halloween-This isfor all chlldren to dress up and have fun on Halloween day. Children came wlth
their different make-up and clothing and told other children why they chose to have the make-up
and the type of ck)thing they wore on the day.
Novembar 2023-The month for the beglnnlng of the festlval of118ht celebrations. We looked at the
different traditions that everyone celebrates and thelr meanlngs. We made decoratlons and foods
that marked Diwall, Hanukkah and Christmas.

ParkTrlp- This was our usual annual trlp to Cllssold Park. All parents accompanled their children.
The journey to the park was by bus, and the children enjoyed the bus trip, looklng at some of the
iconic places and talking about them on the journey to the park. Children looked at the reindeer and
other wlldlife in the parl and then, over lunch, we told storles. All chlldren were well wrapped up
for the cold weather and enJoyed the trlp and seeing the wildlife in the park.
Chrlstmas Cookles- children made Christmas cookies, which were shared during the Chrlstmas
movle afternoon. Many parents came to the movle event. Some parents bought Chrlstmas lunth for
children and staff to share.
Chrlstmas Party- The Playgroup had crazy caramel back for the Christmas party; All the children had
fun with the snow machlne and all the festive muslc. All parents a150 jolned In with a Slng-a-Long.
Janua
2024
Park Vlslt- DurSn8 the wlnter season, a vlslt to the park for chlldren to study how the wlnter weather
han8es affert the park and the habitat that lives within the park.
Vlslt by the local Pollce Officers. They talked about strangers, the danger of talklng to them, how to
protect themselves, and what to do if they get lost. They also dlscussed takin8 precautlons when
they are onllne. If they find anythin8 SUSPICIOUS. they must tell thelr parents or the teachers at the
Playgroup.
Followlng the pollce offlcers. vlslt, the Playgroup set up a mlnlature model pollce statlon. Some
children played the role of a police officer, whlle others played the role of visitin8 the poli￿ seeking
help or advlce. We also put lights on our outdoor cars and Incorporated the 8olden rules.

Chlnese New Year. The year of the dragon. We made a dragon from recycled boxes, and the chlldren
went around the football pltch playlng part as a dragon. Dlscussed why the Chlnese celebrate the
New Year with a mythical anlmal and the purpose.
Pancake Day - Children made pancakes and put different topplngs on them. RemindSn8 the children
about healthy eatin8 and what is good and bad for ourteeth. A story of a Happytooth and a Sad
tooth was told to chlldren.

Farni Trlp- to the local farm to see the newborn lambs (one wasjust born on the day of ourvlsltl.
Farm staff gave the children a tour of the farm. They also informed children about the type of food
that grows on the farm and what health and nutrition it has on people's health. The farm staff also
told the children about each farm's animals and how they live on the fann.

Worfd Book Day-This event allowed children to dress up as their favourite characters. Each chlld
brought their favourite book. which they read to other children, and all Ilstened attentively and
dls¢ussed the book afterwards.
Annual Easter Parade- Parents made hats and watched their children parade around. One of the
parents dressed up as the Easter Bunny and gave out Easter e88s to the children.
Speclal Educatlonal Needs Coordlnator ISENCO)
Lesley Brown is the designated SENCO for the Playgroup. She regularly contatts the local authority's
Early Years SENCO person and attends training and other relevant forum meetlngs. She wlll then
share the good practices and knowledge learned with other Staff of the Playgroup.
As a SENCO, Le51ey Brown also liaises closely with parents and professionals when identifying
children's need5 and plannin8 for intervention and sUPPOrt for a special educational needs child
attendln8 the Playgroup.
Unks and Partnershlp
The Play8roup continues Its close Ilalson wlth the local children's centres and supports famllles In
accessing services offered by the Ioc21 children's centres.
The Playgroup network through Bright Start regularly contacts the family support coordlnator. The
fety coordinator visits the Playgroup and 8ives talks to parents, advislng them on courses thev
could attend. The coordlnator supports the families facln8 Other problems such as health, debts,
employment, etc., and wlll signpost them to the relevant agency providin8 help and support.
The SENCO lead and the manager will also Ilalse and collaborate wlth the lsllngton Early Years
Incluslon Team and the Chlldren in Need Team.

The Play8roup are committed to investin8 in staff trainlng and development. Stsff wlll attend
relevant courses the Islington council offers to the Early Years sector.
The Playgroup sees stsff training as one of its main priorities to keep a high standard of childcare. The
most recent OFSTED Inspection report quoted, The montwer hos taken qood steps to address the
ortions srt at the 105t Inspertlon. She hos ensured thot all staff have Improved their knowledge of

Improvements and Future Plans
The Playgroup now has a modern Technotherm safe-to-touch heatin8 solution that Is more
approprlate for the environment. This has improved our envlronment, and the alrflow Is now better
than the old blower heatlng system which tho Playgroup had in the past. The surface temperature
can be manually adjusted to the Play8roup requirements.
As reported In the previous report, the Playgroup is to install a new roof to stop the raln leak. In the
same report, the Play8roup reported having new electrlc wlrlng to bring the electrical to a higher
safety standard. The Playgroup is pleased to report no new roof replacement was needed. The roof
was repaired with new drainage pipes and a new gutter. This has now stopped the water leak, and
there are no water blocka8es.
New elettrlcal wiring was done wlth a new Ilghtlng system attached to a new fire safety System.
New Intercom System- The Play8roup has installed a new Intercom System. Thls has further
enhanced the securlty of the Playgroup.
Famlly Survey- this Is carried out each year, allowlng parents/carers to give feedback and
suggestions for Improvement. Feedback recelved Is taken Into conslderatlon to Improve the serrfice
the Playgroup provldes.ParentslCarers can also use the Playgroup's Comments Book any tlme durln8
the year to make su88estlons or comments to help the Play8roup improve the service.
Future Plan
The playgroup has always remalned an asset to the communlty. We are surrounded by prrdate
8roups that senie a purpose for high-paying workers. We keep our prices low and affordable for all
famllles, and we wlll contlnue to offer only the free places most famllles need In our catchment area.
The Playgroup remalns a well-known part of the communlty. It networks wlth all the local schools
and pre-schools. The Play8roup make the transition easy by vlslting the schools wlth the chlldren,
meetlng with other preschool and earlv Years provlders at forums, and exchan8ing Bood practices
and new Ideas to help improve the learnlng and development of the chlldren the Playgroup serves.
Subject to ralslng sufflclent fundln& we would Ilke a new cllmbln8 frame wlth more challenges for
the chlldren and more ore storage for our outdoor area actlvities. We hope we can ralse the funding
needed to conclude this new project as we dld for the new Intercom system.
Rlsks Management
There were no significant incidents to report for the period. The Playgroup has a robust actlon plan
that was devlsed during COVID-19 and Implemented to control the virus in the Playgroup. The
Playgroup wlll work closely regularly to monltor the risks to ensure that no 518niflcant viruses will
seriously impact the Playgroup's service.
The last OFSTED Inspection report states. "Saftguardlnq Is effertlve. The manager and staff h¢7ve o
good understondinq oAsofvguardinq and child protertlon prncedures to keep chlldren saft and
protert thelr welfvre. Allstoff ￿￿e$S potsndal rlsks In the Playqroup tIM>roughly and take
neceuary steps to mlnlmlse these."
BUSIne￿ Contlnulty Plan (BCP) - thls was thorou8hly revised in July 2024 and Is reSUlar￿ reviewed
quarterly. The Early Years Team continue to provlde support to develop the BCP.
The Trustees have a duty to identify and review the risk5 to whlch the Playgroup is exposed to,
specifically those related to the operations and finance5 of the Playgroup. The Trustees confirm that

they have established systems to mftigate the significant risks. All Trustees also ensure appropriate
controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
Flnancial Revlew and Reserve Pollcy
SW&A Accountants prepare the Playgroup accounts.
The total revenue for the period endin8 31 March 2024 is £108,632 (last perlod £113,338}. Thls Is a
decrease of £4,706 if compared to the previous year. The decrease was due to the hi8her cost of
purchasing learning and safety materlals and employee-related costs.
The total expendlture for the period was £91,513 {last perlod £115.996), a difference of £24,483.
The dlfference was due to lower staff wages and training costs.
The reserved fund has increased to £84,782 from £70,468.
The trustees are aware of the decrease In the reseNe funds In the balance sheet. This Is due to
hi8her expenditure incurred. They are hopln8 the reserve5 wlll remaln constant. The reseprfe funds
are needed for the Playgroup's development and to cover outgoings when the income is at the
lowest level durin8 the autumn term. The Trustees also conslder It prudent to have sufficient
unrestrirted funds to cover at least three to six months, admlnlstration and support cost5.

Halloween-This isfor all chlldren to dress up and have fun on Halloween day. Children came wlth
their different make-up and clothing and told other children why they chose to have the make-up
and the type of ck)thing they wore on the day.
Novembar 2023-The month for the beglnnlng of the festlval of118ht celebrations. We looked at the
different traditions that everyone celebrates and thelr meanlngs. We made decoratlons and foods
that marked Diwall, Hanukkah and Christmas.

ParkTrlp- This was our usual annual trlp to Cllssold Park. All parents accompanled their children.
The journey to the park was by bus, and the children enjoyed the bus trip, looklng at some of the
iconic places and talking about them on the journey to the park. Children looked at the reindeer and
other wlldlife in the parl and then, over lunch, we told storles. All chlldren were well wrapped up
for the cold weather and enJoyed the trlp and seeing the wildlife in the park.
Chrlstmas Cookles- children made Christmas cookies, which were shared during the Chrlstmas
movle afternoon. Many parents came to the movle event. Some parents bought Chrlstmas lunth for
children and staff to share.
Chrlstmas Party- The Playgroup had crazy caramel back for the Christmas party; All the children had
fun with the snow machlne and all the festive muslc. All parents a150 jolned In with a Slng-a-Long.

2024
Park Vlslt- DurSn8 the wlnter season, a vlslt to the park for chlldren to study how the wlnter weather
han8es affert the park and the habitat that lives within the park.
Vlslt by the local Pollce Officers. They talked about strangers, the danger of talklng to them, how to
protect themselves, and what to do if they get lost. They also dlscussed takin8 precautlons when
they are onllne. If they find anythin8 SUSPICIOUS. they must tell thelr parents or the teachers at the
Playgroup.
Followlng the pollce offlcers. vlslt, the Playgroup set up a mlnlature model pollce statlon. Some
children played the role of a police officer, whlle others played the role of visitin8 the poli￿ seeking
help or advlce. We also put lights on our outdoor cars and Incorporated the 8olden rules.

Chlnese New Year. The year of the dragon. We made a dragon from recycled boxes, and the chlldren
went around the football pltch playlng part as a dragon. Dlscussed why the Chlnese celebrate the
New Year with a mythical anlmal and the purpose.
Pancake Day - Children made pancakes and put different topplngs on them. RemindSn8 the children
about healthy eatin8 and what is good and bad for ourteeth. A story of a Happytooth and a Sad
tooth was told to chlldren.

Farni Trlp- to the local farm to see the newborn lambs (one wasjust born on the day of ourvlsltl.
Farm staff gave the children a tour of the farm. They also informed children about the type of food
that grows on the farm and what health and nutrition it has on people's health. The farm staff also
told the children about each farm's animals and how they live on the fann.

Worfd Book Day-This event allowed children to dress up as their favourite characters. Each chlld
brought their favourite book. which they read to other children, and all Ilstened attentively and
dls¢ussed the book afterwards.
Annual Easter Parade- Parents made hats and watched their children parade around. One of the
parents dressed up as the Easter Bunny and gave out Easter e88s to the children.
Speclal Educatlonal Needs Coordlnator ISENCO)
Lesley Brown is the designated SENCO for the Playgroup. She regularly contatts the local authority's
Early Years SENCO person and attends training and other relevant forum meetlngs. She wlll then
share the good practices and knowledge learned with other Staff of the Playgroup.
As a SENCO, Le51ey Brown also liaises closely with parents and professionals when identifying
children's need5 and plannin8 for intervention and sUPPOrt for a special educational needs child
attendln8 the Playgroup.
Unks and Partnershlp
The Play8roup continues Its close Ilalson wlth the local children's centres and supports famllles In
accessing services offered by the Ioc21 children's centres.
The Playgroup network through Bright Start regularly contacts the family support coordlnator. The
fety coordinator visits the Playgroup and 8ives talks to parents, advislng them on courses thev
could attend. The coordlnator supports the families facln8 Other problems such as health, debts,
employment, etc., and wlll signpost them to the relevant agency providin8 help and support.
The SENCO lead and the manager will also Ilalse and collaborate wlth the lsllngton Early Years
Incluslon Team and the Chlldren in Need Team.

relevant courses the Islington council offers to the Early Years sector.
The Playgroup sees stsff training as one of its main priorities to keep a high standard of childcare. The
most recent OFSTED Inspection report quoted, The montwer hos taken qood steps to address the

Improvements and Future Plans
The Playgroup now has a modern Technotherm safe-to-touch heatin8 solution that Is more
approprlate for the environment. This has improved our envlronment, and the alrflow Is now better
than the old blower heatlng system which tho Playgroup had in the past. The surface temperature
can be manually adjusted to the Play8roup requirements.
As reported In the previous report, the Playgroup is to install a new roof to stop the raln leak. In the
same report, the Play8roup reported having new electrlc wlrlng to bring the electrical to a higher
safety standard. The Playgroup is pleased to report no new roof replacement was needed. The roof
was repaired with new drainage pipes and a new gutter. This has now stopped the water leak, and
there are no water blocka8es.
New elettrlcal wiring was done wlth a new Ilghtlng system attached to a new fire safety System.
New Intercom System- The Play8roup has installed a new Intercom System. Thls has further
enhanced the securlty of the Playgroup.
Famlly Survey- this Is carried out each year, allowlng parents/carers to give feedback and
suggestions for Improvement. Feedback recelved Is taken Into conslderatlon to Improve the serrfice
the Playgroup provldes.ParentslCarers can also use the Playgroup's Comments Book any tlme durln8
the year to make su88estlons or comments to help the Play8roup improve the service.
Future Plan
The playgroup has always remalned an asset to the communlty. We are surrounded by prrdate
8roups that senie a purpose for high-paying workers. We keep our prices low and affordable for all
famllles, and we wlll contlnue to offer only the free places most famllles need In our catchment area.
The Playgroup remalns a well-known part of the communlty. It networks wlth all the local schools
and pre-schools. The Play8roup make the transition easy by vlslting the schools wlth the chlldren,
meetlng with other preschool and earlv Years provlders at forums, and exchan8ing Bood practices
and new Ideas to help improve the learnlng and development of the chlldren the Playgroup serves.
Subject to ralslng sufflclent fundln& we would Ilke a new cllmbln8 frame wlth more challenges for
the chlldren and more ore storage for our outdoor area actlvities. We hope we can ralse the funding
needed to conclude this new project as we dld for the new Intercom system.
Rlsks Management
There were no significant incidents to report for the period. The Playgroup has a robust actlon plan
that was devlsed during COVID-19 and Implemented to control the virus in the Playgroup. The
Playgroup wlll work closely regularly to monltor the risks to ensure that no 518niflcant viruses will
seriously impact the Playgroup's service.
The last OFSTED Inspection report states. "Saftguardlnq Is effertlve. The manager and staff h¢7ve o
good understondinq oAsofvguardinq and child protertlon prncedures to keep chlldren saft and
protert thelr welfvre. Allstoff ￿￿e$S potsndal rlsks In the Playqroup tIM>roughly and take
neceuary steps to mlnlmlse these."
BUSIne￿ Contlnulty Plan (BCP) - thls was thorou8hly revised in July 2024 and Is reSUlar￿ reviewed
quarterly. The Early Years Team continue to provlde support to develop the BCP.
The Trustees have a duty to identify and review the risk5 to whlch the Playgroup is exposed to,
specifically those related to the operations and finance5 of the Playgroup. The Trustees confirm that

they have established systems to mftigate the significant risks. All Trustees also ensure appropriate
controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
Flnancial Revlew and Reserve Pollcy
SW&A Accountants prepare the Playgroup accounts.
The total revenue for the period endin8 31 March 2024 is £108,632 (last perlod £113,338}. Thls Is a
decrease of £4,706 if compared to the previous year. The decrease was due to the hi8her cost of
purchasing learning and safety materlals and employee-related costs.
The total expendlture for the period was £91,513 {last perlod £115.996), a difference of £24,483.
The dlfference was due to lower staff wages and training costs.
The reserved fund has increased to £84,782 from £70,468.
The trustees are aware of the decrease In the reseNe funds In the balance sheet. This Is due to
hi8her expenditure incurred. They are hopln8 the reserve5 wlll remaln constant. The reseprfe funds
are needed for the Playgroup's development and to cover outgoings when the income is at the
lowest level durin8 the autumn term. The Trustees also conslder It prudent to have sufficient
unrestrirted funds to cover at least three to six months, admlnlstration and support cost5.
