We continue to work toward achieving all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for our oldest members and many of the activities in the younger sections help to give our Scouts the necessary skills for the to be able to tackle the Award. Our most valuable resource continues to be our dedicated volunteer leader team who work incredibly hard and give vast amounts of time to ensure that we are able to continue to offer such a high standard of quality activities and residentials to our Scouts. ## **Major Activities and Achievements in the Year** The group continues to thrive with healthy numbers and a large waiting list. Camps and activities have been well attended with our usual array residentials. Summer Camp 2024 saw us venture to Bibby’s Farm in Chorley where much fun was had by all. Weekly sessions are well attended with various activities taking place both in the hut and at other venues in the locality. All sections apart from Explorers are currently full. The space in Explorers is due to the decrease in numbers in the younger sections following the Covid pandemic. We continue to work towards achieving all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for our oldest members and many of the activities in the younger sections help to give our Scouts the necessary skills for them to be able to tackle the Award. Successful qualifying expeditions were run and we also had our first King’s Scout Award presented to a member of EBSG. The works on Willow Bog Cottage are about to re-start following the successful installation of our new generator. The group would like to pay particular thanks to Mr Paul Nash for his tremendous generosity in making this possible. We are also very excited that a new group is being formed called the Friends of Willow Bog Cottage. It is made up of volunteers who would like to work together to maintain and improve Willow Bog on behalf of our Scout Group. The aim is for them to manage the building on our behalf. Our most valuable resource continues to be our dedicated volunteer leader team who work incredibly hard and give vast amounts of time to ensure that we are able to continue to offer such a high standard of quality activities and residentials to our Scouts. We were very sad to say goodbye to Simon Gray who left the group after over 20 years of dedicated service. Simon built the group from just 4 members into the large successful group that it now is and was also the driving force behind the hut renovations several years ago and the acquisition of Willow Bog Cottage. We would like to formally thank him for his dedication. Fundraising continues to thrive with our tiny but incredibly dedicated fundraising team. Events have included wreath making workshops, tombola stalls, raffles and car boot sales amongst many. It is down to their commitment and hard work that our membership subscriptions have been able to remain at £240 pa for yet another year. We were also lucky to be awarded CAF funding which paid for all lighting in the hut to be changed to LED and some heaters upgraded too to reduce energy consumption. The Group continues to be financially sound. The funds available have allowed the Group to meet all of its objectives. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under Section 145 of the Charities Act, - to follow the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner's statement** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement. ## **Independent examiner's statement** In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect: - accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act or - the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.
