Summary of main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects:

The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

We continue to work toward achieving all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for our oldest members and many of the activities in the younger sections help to give our Scouts the necessary skills for the to be able to tackle the Award.

Our most valuable resource continues to be our dedicated volunteer leader team who work incredibly hard and give vast amounts of time to ensure that we are able to continue to offer such a high standard of quality activities and residentials to our Scouts.

Major Activities and Achievements in the Year

The group continues to thrive with healthy numbers and a large waiting list. Camps and activities have been well attended with residentials to Thurston OEC, Willow Bog, our annual summer camp, a Cub sleepover at Beamish Open Air Museum and we also entered a team for the South Tyneside Thurston Challenge. Weekly sessions are well attended with various activities taking place both in the hut and at other venues in the locality.

We continue to work towards achieving all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for our oldest members and many of the activities in the younger sections help to give our Scouts the necessary skills for them to be able to tackle the Award. Successful qualifying expeditions were run at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. The leadership of expeditions has now transferred to one of our ‘homegrown’ leaders who has been part of our group since joining Beavers aged 6.

Works on the Willow Bog renovations have come to a temporary standstill due to volunteer time constraints and the delay in the transportation of our new generator across the river. We have a contractor in place and we’re hoping to make progress on this very soon.

Our most valuable resource continues to be our dedicated volunteer leader team who work incredibly hard and give vast amounts of time to ensure that we are able to continue to offer such a high standard of quality activities and residentials to our Scouts. Many of our leaders, including our current acting GSL have chosen to become leaders after progressing through our group as youth members and we’re really proud to see them now taking a leading role.

Our small but incredibly dedicated fundraising team has done a tremendous job raising funds to help support 7 of our Explorer Scouts to be able to take part in the Tall Ships Race. They had an amazing experience despite some dreadful weather conditions and were able to share their experiences at our AGM.

The Group continues to be financially sound. The funds available have allowed the Group to meet all of its objectives. The accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis.
