## **Summary of main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects:**

The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

We continue to work toward achieving all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme for our oldest members and many of the activities in the younger sections help to give our Scouts the necessary skills for the to be able to tackle the Award.

Our most valuable resource continues to be our dedicated volunteer leader team who work incredibly hard and give vast amounts of time to ensure that we are able to continue to offer such a high standard of quality activities and residentials to our Scouts.

## **Major Activities and Achievements in the Year**

The group is glad to be functioning fully again after the removal of restrictions from the Covid pandemic. Camps and activities have been well attended and we were able to hold our annual group Summer Camp again.

The group also has a small but incredibly dedicated team of volunteers who focus on fundraising. They have organised various events including a quiz, wreath making workshops and Christmas tree collections. Since January they have been fundraising specifically to help some of our Explorer Scouts be able to take part in the Tall Ships Race later this year. We offer sincere thanks to all those involved.

Works have progressed on the Willow Bog renovations and there is now a drinking water supply, central heating and new toilet and shower facilities. The next phase of the renovations will continue once we are able to site our new generator.

The Group continues to be financially sound with cash reserves increassing to £18,273 (£3653: 2022). The funds available have allowed the Group to meet all of its objectives. The accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis.

Approved by the trustees on 30/1/24 and signed on their behalf by:

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of**

28th South Shields, 4th East Boldon Scout Group

## **Registered Charity Number 1122940**

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2023, which are set out on pages 4,5 and 6.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act").

The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under Section 145 of the Charities Act,

- to follow the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner's statement**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act or

- the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
