28th South Shields, 4th East Boldon Scout Group Registered Charity Number - 1122940 Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 31 March 2021
Major Activities and Achievements in the Year
The Covid-19 pandemic caused the first closure of our group since it began in 1943. This closure was for the full financial year. The decision was taken by the Parent’s Committee to suspend membership subscriptions. Grants from the local authority meant that we were financially secure.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s award continued remotely, but there were no expeditions completed. There were no residential/camping activities undertaken during this time.
Using the grants from the Local Authority works were carried out to upgrade the Hut and Willow Bog works continued when restrictions allowed.
In December 2020 ‘Gus’ one of our minibuses was stolen from out of our compound. Following this heart-breaking event the Fundraising Committee set up a GoFundMe page and managed to raise £7,227, and along with the insurance claim, means we were able to purchase a replacement vehicle, which we have called ‘Rona’.
The Group continues to be financially sound. The funds available have allowed the Group to meet all of its objectives. The accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis.
The Group is a trust established under its rules which are common to all Scout Groups. Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.
The trustees have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Commission.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of 28th South Shields, 4th East Boldon Scout Group
Registered Charity Number 1122940
I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2021, which are set out on pages 3 and 4.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act").
The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under Section 145 of the Charities Act,
-
to follow the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect:
-
accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act or
-
the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
