have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommandgd Practice applicable to
charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financtal Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of
Iroland {FRS 1021 (èffective 1 January 2019).
Trevor Swgtg
The trustees are sad to announce the passing of Trevor Swete on 4 October 2025. Trevor had been a trustee from the
beginning of the trust, serving as a wise and diligent advisor aTrJ valued member of the group.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The Roan Charitable Trust is constituted under a trust deed dated 24 January 2008 and wa5 registe￿d as a charity with
Charity Commission for England and Wales on 18 February 2008.
The objectives of the charity a￿ ta make grants for gen8ral charitable purpo68s. There were no restricted furbds held during
the year or as at 31 March 2025.
The charity derives its income from investment returns, which are then used to fund grants to other registe￿d
charitable organisations.

The truste85 confimi that they have referred to the guidance containgj in the Charity Commission'$ general guidance on
publi¢ b•nefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning fvtur¢ a¢tlvities and
sotting tho grant making policy for the year.
Prncedures and pollcy for grantmaklng
The charity's policy is lo make grant$ to regIStsr￿ ¢haritle$ In the fields of education, medical resoarch and oth8r
¢haritie$ that Can demon$lrat8 that tho grants will be used offo¢tivo1y.
There is no formal grant application procedure. The trustees retain the seNices of a charitabl8 grant8 advisor and
take account of the advice when deciding on grant8. During the year, tsyenty one grants amounting to £453,5C
w•r8 made.
ACHIEVEMEpifs AND PERFORMANCE
Charltable activltlel
During the year, the charity continued to 5UPPOrt chaiities which the trustees believed are able lo demonstrate that
they Can utilise the funds effo¢tiv&ly.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The current inveslmenl poli¢y is to ￿taIn some of the available funds on bank deposit in order lo meet the payment of grant8
which have previously been committed to registered charities. The remaining surplus funds are invested in listed
In￿str￿ents and cash managed by HSBC UK Bank plc.
In the year ended 31 March 2025, incoming resources amounted to £194.690 and resources expènded amounted
to £540,329.
At 31 March 2025, the charity had unrestricted funds amounting to £8,376,621.
The trustees have reviewed the charity'5 needs for reserves in line with the guidance issued by the Charity Commission. The
current policy of the chanty is to maintain al least suffi￿ent funds to meet grants over a period
of five years taking a¢￿Unt of expected grants and administration costs.
FUTURE PLANS
The charity plans lo continue supporting national and local charities and will in future support those intornalional charities,
which the trustees feel are organised to ulilise funds in an effective way.

The trusteos are appointed in accordan￿ wlth tho tsm)s of the deed and the trust deed promdes for a minimum of four
trustees.
All the tr￿tee8 are encouraged to attend board meotlngs to famliarise themselves with the Charity.
The trustees have revlew&d the major stralegi¢ and operational risks to which the charity is exposed. Where appropriato,
systems or pro¢oduro8 havo bo&n established to mtyate th& rlsks th• Charity facas. Internal control risks are minimised by
Ihe implwnentation of pro¢edur8s for authorisalion of all trartsactions. Th•s• piocedures ar8 periodicalty reviewed lo ensure
thal th&y continue lo meet the needs of tho charity. The ch8rity manages its finanGial risk by setting a reseNe8 polrcy which
is regulaTty reviewed by trustg0$.

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsibl8 for tho preparation of the accounts in accordance with the

I report in respect of my examination of the Trusl's accounts carried out under Section 145 of the Act and in carying out ry
e￿8M1nation I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145151{b} of the Act.

CHARITY STATUS
The Roan Charitable Tru81 is a charity registered with the Charlty Comml$sloft for England and Wal•s. The charity is
exempt from di￿¢1 taxation.
The charity constitutes a publi¢ ￿nefit entity as defined by FRS 102.
ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statgrngnts
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in
accordance with the Charities SORP {FRS 102} 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Sialement of
Recommended Practice applicable lo chartties preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporti
Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 {effective 1 January 20191,, Financial Reporting
Standard 102 The Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the Charities Act
2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. with the eX￿ptIon of
investments which are included at market value, a$ modified by the revaluation of certain assets.
Income
All incomé is ￿cogniSed in the Ststement of Financial Adivilies once the charity has entidement to tr* fvnds, It is
probab10 that tho income will b& received and Ihe amount can be measured reliably.
Expènditure
Liabilities are re¢ognis¢d as expendilure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing lh8 ¢harrty
to that expenditLtre, il is probable that a transfer of econom1¢ bon¢fit$ will ba required in settlem•nt and the amount
of the obligation Can be measured reliabty. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been
dassified under headings that aggr•gate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to
particular heading8 they have bo¢n allocated to activities on a basls consl$tent wlh th8 us& of re$ouKes.
Grants offered subject lo condillon$ which have not been mel at the year end date are noted as a ￿Mmitn￿nt but
not accrued as expendtture.

Fund a¢¢ounting
Unrestricted fund$ can ba used in accordan￿ with the chariiable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted fund5 can only be used for particular restridgd purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions
arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Reallsed and unrgali$ed gains and losse5
AN gains and losses are taken to the Statement of Financial ActivrlÈs as they arise. Realised gains arbd losses on
fixed a55el investments are calculated a5 the difference belween sales proceeds and opening carrying va￿e or their
purthase value if acquired subsequent to the first day of the financial year. Unrealised gains and losses are
calculated as the difference be￿een the fair value at thg year end and their carrying value.
Fixed asset investments
Investments are a form of basic financial instrument and are initially recognised at their transaction value and
subsequently measured at their fair value as at the balancÈ Sheet date using the closing quoted mart<et price. The
statement of financial activities includes the net gains and losses arising on revaluation and disposals throughout the
year.
