Wherever we meet youth and children's ministry, of any size, whether it's brand new or well established, we want to help root it, build it up, strengthen it and give thanks for it. Our hope is that every bit of our own ministry will point towards these aims. We do this by running a variety of events, hosting weekends away, holding support groups and mentoring sessions, providing training, consultancy and more. 2022 saw the beginnings of ‘The Collective’ - a group of youth leaders seeking unity and collaboration. We contintue to explore creative ways to encourage and resource ministry across our network. We are committed to promoting the well-being of all young people, leaders and children through upholding the Safeguarding Policy.

## Training 




**Podcasts. Blogs and Vlogs:** 2022 was full of opportunities to encourage youth and kids leaders in a whole host of ways. We recorded a bunch of podcasts including topics such as: “longevity in youthwork” with Michael Hunter from Younglife International. We also chatted to Calum from St Albans Cathedral on the subject of ‘loving Jesus but struggling with church’. Regular encouragements were sent via social media and email, these were a variety of messages to ‘check-in’, ‘cheer-on’ and inspire. 

**Retreat** : We took 11 leaders away on a days retreat. The day was a mix of quality food, time to share stories and chat and also time to breathe in some fresh air out in nature. 

**Special Delivery:** We know everyone loves post and so 267 continued to mail out physical 'encouragement packs' to various people. We delivered to youth leaders, young people, church leaders, kids workers, Uni students and the 267 team. While it was still incredibly difficult to meet face-to-face these little connecting points were hugely fruitful. 

**St Mellitus** : Mike also visited St Mellitus again which runs a training course for youth ministry. This year he is visiting twice to share about 'budgets and planning' and also 'creating a 10 year vision for youth ministry' 

**National Youth Ministry Weekend** : This is a highlight of the year for the youth ministry tribe. We had a great time attending along with the STEP team. Lots of great input, conversations and team time.

## Youth Ministry 

**FUEL:** After a tough start to the year with some post-covid challenges we began to gather stronger in September. From Sept 2022 we went ‘on tour’ visiting a different church each term. Partnering with local churches is vital to supporting ministry across the area and promoting unity and collaboration. Numbers averaged around 50 and we had some great times looking at three topics: hope, story and purpose. 



**The Haven** : A growing team, a growing need; The Haven went into more schools this year and even started looking into a ‘Haven Schools Course’ for primary schools. Claire also got selected for the ‘Cinnamon Network Incubator Programme’ which supports charities seeking to grow and replicate into others areas. Over the coming year Claire will be able to take part in a whole range of coaching, networking and development events. **The Collective:** Unity, collaboration and ‘tribe’ are key to our ministry and The Collective is a beautiful example of it. A bunch of leaders from different organisations and churches choosing to give time to something outside of their usual **Illuminate** : Even before the craziness of 2020/21 The Collective was forming. A few youth leaders with a heart for connecting young people across a wider area and beyond our own individual spaces. As The Collective gathered new leaders ‘Illuminate’ was boring - a space to connect, and reconnect young people. Launched in Feb 2022 with 104 young people and 22 leaders attending, from at least 12 different groups. In December 2022 this expanded as we had a ‘Ninja Warrior’ Takeover at their venue in Watford. 120 young people joined us with over half being in school years 6, 7 & 8 - the main age group we are seeing at events. 



**Residentials:** Despite the phenomenal success of BackToLife in 2021, which we know was fruitful because of the time and need which we were experiencing. We attempted to run another similar event in summer 2022 but numbers just weren't there. So we ran a small ‘mini Houseparty’ and had a great time with 8 young people. In 2022 we ran a hugely joy-filled weekend for school years 345. 27 kids and 11 leaders joined us. We also loved our school years 678 weekend which had a trip to Lee Valley Youth Hostel and the invention of ‘balcony dodgeball’ - not as dangerous as it sounds.

**X:site:** This is a children's event that was started in partnership with churches across Harpenden, St. Albans and Wheathampstead. It's a chance to gather 7-11's for games, craft, songs, mess, fun and a clear message of how good the good news of Jesus is. We relaunched X:site at Hatfield Road Methodist Church with 15 leaders and 27 kids. Xsite has run for years but this is the first time we have had an event since Jan 2020. **Residentials:** In 2022 we ran a hugely joy-filled weekend for school years 345. 27 kids and 11 leaders joined us at a new site in Cuffley. The weather wasn't great but we still managed a campfire, a night hike, trampolining and shooting. A really good time away. **Gathering** : We still encourage kids workers out to our Tribe breakfasts. Even though we have a larger group of youth leaders we feel it is vital and great unity to gather all together often.

## 2022 Fundraising Events 




In 2022 our Chair of Trustees Sean ran the London Marathon to raise funds for 267. This isn’t the first time he has done this and we feel utterly blessed to have this effort and support for our ministry.  This time Sean raised around £2500, which is phenomenal, and we are so grateful.

In July Porters Park hosted our Golf Day once again, and even with a few restrictions still in place we had a superb day. A huge number of people joined us again and over c£6,000 profit was raised to continue and grow the ministry of 267.

A team of 12 climbed Moel Siabod in Snowdonia, the weather was horrendous, but we raised over £3k. It was an amazing team effort with everyone really encouraging one another. We had an 11 + 12 year old climb with us too, and they were unfazed mountain goats!

## KEY EVENTS 



## **The Haven** 

The Haven had a relaunch late in 2022 and shared new resources and a new vision. Our hope was to increase awareness and founding for this significant ministry. Claire was also selected to join the ‘Cinnamon Network Incubator Programme’ which supports charities seeking to grow and replicate into others areas. Over the coming year Claire will be able to take part in a whole range of coaching, networking and development events. 


## **TEAM** 

The Haven expanded its core team this year as Lizzy joined us to support Claire. In September we also had Maddie join us as a ‘Haven Intern’. Maddie and Lizzy enabled Claire to grow and develop much of the Haven ministry. We had a couple of work experience weeks with Ellie and Grace. The stewardship of 267 was strengthened with new trustees included Rob, Lydia, Ben and Becki. 

## **15th Birthday** 

**Cake is key to life. Around 60 supporters joined us at The Dutch Nursery to celebrate all things 267 and The Haven. It was great to share stories, share vision and to eat and celebrate. There is so much to give thanks for and it was great to be able to do this in the company of people who have journeyed with us. Some have been supporters for a few weeks and some since the very beginning, we are so thankful for both.**

## **New Office** 

**In February we had the joy of moving into a new office space. After our portacabin finally started to be inhabitable we were given space at the St Albans Diocese office. Our new space is lush, warm and in central St Albans. Ninja Warrior** As part of our ‘Illuminate’ Ministry we took over the whole of the Ninja Warrior venue in Watford. 120 young people gathered to jump, chase, bounce and run. Almost half were new to our gatherings and around 60% were in school years 6, 7 & 8 - exciting for the future. 


**Partnership** 

In summer of 2022 we took part in an Urban Saints Spree event. 267 was heading up the youth venue and we had around 200 young people for the weekend. We played a whole bunch of ‘big room’ games, we met with God, we laughed, played and built some deep friendships. As an ‘agile’ organisation, 267 was able to step in last minute to lead this event due to another team pulling out. 

## **The Tribe** 

Tribe Breakfast - I know it feels weird calling a breakfast a ‘key highlight’, but it is. Because it gathers people and allows us space and time to connect and build one another up. These times have becomes essential to all of us and we are seeing 18-25 leaders every month coming to share a meal and share stories of ministry. These times of community are essential in prolonging the ‘life expectancy’ of children’s and families workers, removing an all-too-often sense of isolation.

## 2022 Finances 

267 aims for a minimum bank balance at all times of £9,000. The calculation of this reserve is based on an expected ability to meet one month's staff costs, worst case timing of the quarterly liability to HMRC, coverage of a quarter of contracted overheads (eg rent, insurance) offset by assumed unclaimed gift aid of one quarter. 267 does not hold funds as a Custodian. The 267 Project is a Charitable Trust which has been governed according to its Trust Deed since Dec 2007 and registered with the Charity Commission since Feb 2008. New trustees are elected by existing trustees and team members. Trustees regularly meet with the team for monthly meetings and inspiring Strategy Days.

## A Word From Us 


## **Sean Ryan** Chair of Trustees 

We are post pandemic but we are most certainly not post change. In fact I can’t think of a season when 267 has had to be more reactive to the changing social environment. We pride ourselves on being a dynamic organisation but we have been tested in this last year. Again, it’s been a year when Mike has had to dig at least as deep as he did in 2021 in order for the267project to do all it could to support young people, both via direct engagement and via the services we offer to children’s and famlies workers. The primary challenge is creating an in-person community once more, overcoming the digital ones that were a life-line during the pandemic but are not a permanent substite and are now are a tether. But react the project has, and new strategies and events have become new foundation stones for new post-pandemic communities. As a body of trustees, we’ve grown in numbers and this allows us to consider a move towards a working group structure, devolving strategies and planning activities to smaller groups, reporting in to the larger trustee group meetings for governance and accountability. We still feel called to our core ministries and we still feel led towards finding a more permanent ‘home’, a multi-purpose centre where current activities can thrive and where new ventures are made possible. Watch this space in the year ahead! 


My time in 2022 was filled with an array of new things. I spent time at St Mellitus encouraging the youth ministry students. I met with various people involved in youth ministry to help me think about what 267 might look like in the next few years. The ministry and trustee teams both saw and new additions, which brings new energy and creativity. There is still a little ‘pandemic hangover’ and drawing churches, groups and individuals has been a struggle at times. I sense that 267 is in a season of flux and change in order to adapt to how the youth ministry landscape has changed. I’m also aware as a lifelong youth worker that I want to always be where God needs me to be so I am seeking each step forward wisely. 267 is still very much driving my heart and the longer term vision to have our own space is what wakes me each morning. The sense of collaboration and unity that currently exists in our tribe is hugely exciting and encouraging. 267 always wants to reach out and support the ministry of others, this only happens by building strong and humble relationships and these have been gifted to us this year. I continue to pray and seek how we can ‘resource-grow-celebrate’ all kids and youth ministry, and those individuals that give themselves to it.

## Looking Ahead... **Our hope is for growth...** 


**The Collective and Illuminate** - it is clear that God is blessing both The Collective and Illuminate. We want to grow this work so we can have greater collaboration and unity, but also to reconnect with more young people and walk with them. 

**The Haven** - As the team has grown so has the need. The Haven is reaching out to support more young people with their mental health story. We want to be able to spend time in primary schools which may help avoid some of the challenges teenagers face as they get older. 

**Partnership and Collaboration** - We love working with other, supporting others and cheering other ministries on. We hope to always be a charity that is about unity and collaboration. 

**Impact and Visibility** - One of the areas we feel we need to work on is the profile of 267 and The Haven. How do we get words out about this amazing work we do. Our hope is to grow our marketing and communications and so raise our visibility and impact. 

**Stability of Finances** - As a charity we are always aware that fundraising is difficult at time. It would be great to get to a point where there is a little less pressure on finding funds and so allow the team to fully involve themselves in the front line ministry and purpose.
