The Trustees, who are directors for the purposes of Company law, present their strategic report year ended 28th Feb 2026 in compliance with Section 414C of the Companies Act 2006.
Achievements and performance:
There are currently 25 members and 6 volunteers in PDC, although the Trustees and other committee members also volunteer on club nights and outings. The average attendance is 20 members, with 2 new members joining this year.
The committee have continued to recruit new members by advertising in local surgeries, day centres and pharmacies.
PDC managed to have 23 meetings during the financial year with breaks for Christmas & summer holidays during July/August.
Paul Kentish & Chris Harrison continued to be caretakers for the minibuses but unfortunately “Paul’s bus” failed its MOT on a number of serious faults and after much deliberation and searching to find a suitable garage to carry out the repairs, it was decided to sell/scrap the minibus. Paul managed to sell some of the parts and the remaining bus was sold and will have a new life on the stock car track. Paul contacted a company called SEDCAT, recommended by Irene, and we are now using their minibuses for transporting our members for club nights.
Sharon Welch has continued to stand in driving the minibus when either of the other 2 drivers are on holiday and that is working well and as Secretary, she has continued to contact members by phone if there are any changes to club meetings.
The Trustees & secretary met face to face 4 times during the year.
The A.G.M. was held on 19[th] November 2025 at which the existing trustees were re-elected. Viv Kane stood down as Chairperson & Trustee and Mike Welch was duly elected as her replacement.
Entertainment was provided at each meeting as in previous years and included the old favourites of bingo, quizzes, vocalists and a cake stall. We welcomed back Wimborne Musical Theatre, Ukulele group all of which were greatly enjoyed by all involved. We also had “Wobble class”. We welcomed Stevie D as a new vocalist.
Two boat trips aboard the Dolphin III around Poole Harbour took place in July for those members who wished to participate. The trips had to be done separately to allow the correct volunteer to attendee ratio and limit of the number of wheelchairs per trip. A donation of £50 was made from club funds to the Friends of Dolphin charity, who run the trips free of charge.
A wonderful Afternoon tea was provided at The Nest café at Canford Heath, paid from the legacy left to the club by Grace Dear. The club also purchased some table top games to be used on club nights from this fund also.
Chris & Paul have been our star fundraisers this year: Chris ran the Bournemouth Half Marathon in October & Paul did a sponsored Sky Dive – a fantastic amount of £1466.61 had been raised by the end of February, with outstanding sponsor money to come.
A £50 voucher from the White Horse Pub at Stourpaine, donated by Pat – this was raffled & raised £92 for the club. A £100 donation was also made by a members family and very gratefully received.
Mike, Sharon & Paul were invited to present the Club to Poole Rotary Club to help with raising additional funds & networking with other charities.
Mike & Sharon also presented the Club at Canford Chase care home to become their Charity of the year for 2026. Our pitch was successful & the home will be supporting us throughout 2026.
Christmas lunch this year was again held at the Hamworthy Club in December. As last year, the club subsidised the meal, so each member only had to pay £15 per head, with full price paid by guests. Stevie D provided cabaret style entertainment, and a large raffle was held which raised a good profit for club funds. A very successful event and well received & enjoyed by the members who attended.
The loose change jar raised £18 in 2025-26. Danny Waylen has been the focal point for all the Aluminium scrap fund raising, with donated cans being collected from local cafes by Helen & Dave. Canford Chase care home are also saving their cans for us. A total of £74.88 has been raised for the club.
PDC continues to provide social interaction for people who would otherwise have difficulty meeting others and will endeavour to promote and grow the membership.
