to another successful year of Centre Stage.
Chair’s Report
Mark Worsley
2025 was a truly fantastic year for the company. As Anne has already mentioned, we enjoyed many excellent events, very special productions, and a series of outstanding concerts throughout the year.
We were delighted to welcome many new members, both Seniors and Juniors. By the end of 2025, membership had grown to 53 in the Senior Company and 57 in the Junior Company, with a steadily increasing waiting list.
Our financial position also improved significantly over the course of the year. Our accounts closed year end in a much stronger position than it began. I would like to emphasise that 2025 was very much a turning point for the company, and I extend sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to strengthening our finances.
We are all aware of the rising costs associated with running the company, and the Executive Committee remains committed to keeping membership fees and ticket prices as low as possible. We will continue to manage costs carefully, and with our strong financial controls, the charity remains in a much more secure financial position.
Being part of this wonderful company requires a significant commitment, not only from members who attend rehearsals three times each week, but also from parents who provide ongoing support, and from our experienced production team who continually bring us exceptional productions. This year’s performances were a joy: the vibrant Guys and Dolls , the splendid Summer Enchanted Evening concerts,
and the charming Chitty Chitty Bang Bang . My sincere thanks go to our Director and Choreographer, Sue, and our Musical Director, Joe.
I would also like to thank our enthusiastic and dedicated Committee members who give so generously of their time while sharing in the enjoyment of Centre Stage. We are very sorry to be losing Jo as Communications Director after five years of exceptional service. We thank her for her loyalty, commitment, and passion for the company, and wish her every success for the future.
I am pleased to announce that Jo Killoran has taken on the role of Communications Director, with continued support from Rosie Martin as Juniors Secretary. Both are former members of the company and parents of current members.
Looking ahead to the coming year, we will continue to develop the company website, explore opportunities to generate additional income, celebrate the exciting Emerald 55th anniversary of Centre Stage (formerly the 14–20 Music and Drama Society), support community events, and continue to bring high-quality live entertainment to our audiences.
Beyond this year, we remain committed to offering a balanced programme of productions, both new and classic, to maintain the interest of current members and audiences while attracting new participants and supporters. We may also explore alternative venues, but wherever we perform, we will continue to provide the best possible opportunities to learn and experience all aspects of musical theatre.
Thank you all, and I look forward, together with you, to another successful year ahead.

Our Performances
Guys and Dolls
In April 2025, we performed the fabulous Guys and Dolls at the Exmouth Pavillon. This magnificent show incapsulates life in New York in the 1950s. It was a fantastic experience to perform in this amazing show, and we were very pleased to perform to delighted audiences every night. I was lucky enough to play the role of Lieutenant Brannigan, a police officer desperate to stop the ‘Floating Crap Game’ run by Nathan Detroit. It was a brilliant role to play, with lots of lines that made the audience chuckle with glee! It was a show that was enjoyed by all, and I am sure that
we can all agree that Guys and Dolls was a gamble that was definitely worth it!

L. Frank Baum’s beloved story of a young of 4 girl’s adventure in a magical land has By L. Frank Baum been entertaining audiences for over a century. MGM’s blockbuster 1939 film adaptation, featuring the timeless songs of Youth Edition Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, along with the brilliant instrumental music of Herbert Stothart, elevated the popular novel to even greater heights. Our stage adaptation, featuring the characters and celebrated songs from the film, brought the wondrous Land of Oz to life in a jubilant theatrical experience.
Audiences joined Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the Land of Oz, — oe determined to reach the Emerald City, where the great and ’ powerful Wizard of Oz will help them get home. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was my first time auditioning for a show, and I really enjoyed it. I was very nervous about auditioning, but everyone was really supportive, and everyone was in the same boat. In the audition process, you must learn a song and a bit of dialogue for the character that you audition for. One by one, we went in and performed the song and dialogue. I was so scared going into my audition, but coming out, I felt so relieved, and it gave me a big confidence boost. Auditioning for a show is such a great experience! Jemima, Member

The law applicable to charities requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
-
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008, and the provisions of the constitution. The specific purposes for which the funds are to be applied are as follows:
Unrestricted funds comprise of donations and other incoming resources receivable or generated for the objectives of the charity without further specified purpose and are available as general funds.
During the year, the Board maintained unrestricted funds above £8,000 , having £25,117 at the year end. Our expectation for the next year is for the reserves to stay in line with our reserves policy, having over £8,000 of unrestricted reserves. This is an approximate calculation of potential financial commitments including; show related costs and settling outstanding invoices for rehearsal room hire, store rent, etc.
The restricted funds are made up of funds received for specific purposes as laid down by the donor. Expenditure which meets this criteria is charged to the fund, together with a fair allocation of management and support costs. Last year we received £1,500 from The Norman Family Charitable Trust to use towards the show costs of performing Me and My Girl. All funds have now been spent. This year we received £3,000 from Exmouth Town Council for the purchase of microphones. This remains in restricted funds at the year end.
We also received £2,500 from The Norman Family Charitable Trust to use towards the show costs of performing Guys and Dolls from 15th-19th April at Exmouth Pavilion. All funds have now been spent.

There were no related party transactions in the year.
