ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2020 The Trustees present their report and audited financial statement5 of the charity for the year ended 31 Decernbei 2020. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Staternent of Recornrnended Practice ISORPI °Accounting and Reporting by Charities" IFRS 1021 in preparing the annual report and financial statements of the charity. The financial stalements have been prepared in accordan￿ with the accounting policies set out in the notes to the ac¢ountS and comply with the charity's governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practi￿ applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable In th8 UK and R8public of Ir81and publish8d on 16 July 2014, as am8nded by Bulletin 1. Objectives and activities The main objective of the charity is to relieve patients and former patients of the William Harvey Hospital and its associated hospitals and other invalids in the community who are sick, convalescent, disabled, handicapped, Infim or in need of financial assistance. and. generally to support the charitable work of the hospital. Publle b•n*flt stat•m•nt Friends of the William Harvey Hospital meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless othe￿iSe stated in the relevant accounting policy notes. The trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Cornrnission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Trust's aims and objectives and in planning future activities. Achlevements and Perfomiance The rnain objective of the Charity 15 to raise funds to facilitate the donation of equipment to the hospitsl. The charity achieves this objective by operating a shop in the hospital, staffed by both volunteers and paid employees, which primarily s811s goods to patients, visitois and hospital staff. It also und8rtak85 fundraising activiti85. All profits from th8 hospital shop, donations, legacies. gift aid, investment income and fundraising activities provide our income. The majority of funds are raised via the Friends, shop in the foyer of the hospital. However, due to the Covid 19 pand8niic, th8 hospital shop was c105ed from 9 April 2020 to 1 June 2020 in order to safeguard th8 safety of th8 volunteers and staff working in the shop. This period of closure. together with a reduction in patients visiting the hospital during the yeai, has significantly reduced the shop tumover, which has subsequently reduced the donation ol equipment to the hospital by the charity. During the year £111,26812019'. £238,4821 was donated to Ihe hospital 85 detailed in note 6. Financial support from donations and legacies have increased in 2020. During the year legacies totalling £16.575 12019.'£15,5561 were received. In December 2020 the Charity wrapped hundreds of gifts for patients on the wards at Christmas. As reported in the accounts, gifts to the hospital are accounted for when the chaiity has comrnitted to the expenditure. On this basis gifts totalling £111,268 12019. £238,482) have been recognised in the accounts. During the year, a review of outstanding equipment pledges was undertaken. This resulted in pledges totalling £178,229 being cancelled, and therefore these funds are now available for future pledges. Commitments outstsnding at the year end totslled £295,41612019.' £303,479) and indudes amounts recognised in previous years but not yet paid for. The charity dgpends largely on unpaid volunt8ers for fundraising and for stsffing the hospit81 shop. We would also like to acknowledge the contribution made by the paid staff in the Offi￿ and shop for their dedicated setvice and lor ensuring that we always present a professional image. The trustees continue lo review and monitor the systems lor managing the major strategic, business and operational risks which the charitable Company faces. The principal risk to which the charity is exposed is the withdrawal ol the space occupied by the Friends, shop in the foy8r of the hospit81. Should th8 spac& b8 Withdrawn, th8 charity would ne8d to increas8 th8 funds of the charity through alternative fundraising. Financial review Income amounted to £499,05712019'. £1,067,343), a decrease of approximately £568,000. Expenditure amounted to £537,562 12019.. £1,057.1061 a de¢re8se of approxirnately £519.500. As at 31 December 2020 the investment property held by the charity was revalued resulting in a gain of £85,000 12019..loss (>f £50,000). Reserves pollcy It is the policy of the charitable company to maintain unrestiicted fund5. which are the free reserves of the charitable company to provide sufficient funds to meet future expenditure. There are no significant commitments to meet recurring donations with the majority of donations being one-tsff payments based on individual applications. The trustees have achieved this target. Investment policy Investrnent activities are managed in line with the requirements of the Trustee Act 2000. The trustees, having regard to the liquidity requirements of operating the charitable company and to the reserves policy, have operated a policy of k88ping available funds in interest beaiing deposit accounts and seek to achieve a rate of d8posit which match8s or exceeds inflation as measured by the retail prices index. The charitable company also has an investrnent property which is currenuy leased to a tenant and a satisfactory rate of retum is achieved. Plans for the future The trust88s consider that the assets of th8 charity at 31 DeceTnb8r 2020 are suffici8nt to tn88t future cotnrnitrn8nts and they maintain a reserve ol funds to meet any eventuality likely to occur wthin the Friends of the William Harvey Hospital. The charity will continue to consider the requests for equipment by the hospital. Covid 19 The trustees have considered ihe impact of the Covid-19 outbreak, which began during the year. The hospital shop was closed from 9 April 2020 in order to 58feguard the safety of the volunteers 8nd staff working in the shop. The shop reopened on 1 June 2020. Although turnover in the shop has signifciantly reduced during the year, there haven't been any cashflow or going concem issues identified at present, although the situation is being wularly monitored. The trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable fulure and are unaware of any material uncertainties lacing the charity that could impact on this conclusion.

In the event of the charity being wound up, the liability in respect of the guarantee is lirnited to £1 per tnember of the charity. The address of the registered Offi￿ is given in the charity information on page 1 of these financial ststements. The nature of the charity's operations and principal activities is to relieve patients and former patients of the William Harvey Hospital and its 8Ssociated hospitsls 8nd other invalids in the wmmunity who are sick, convalescgnt, disabled, h8ndicapped, infirm or in need of finanaal assistan￿, and, generally to support the charitable work of the hospital. The charity wnstitutes 8 public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102. The financial ststements have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise staled in the relevant notes to these account5. The financial statements have been prepared In accoidance with the Statement of Recomrnended Practice.. Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 issued on 16 July 2014 as 8n18nd8d by Bulletin 1 and th8 Financial R8POrting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ir81and IFRS 1021 and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements are prepared in sterling which is the functional currency of the charity. The signrficant awounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial statements 8re set out below. Income from tiading activities includes income eamed from fundraising events and trading aetivities to raise lunds lor the charity. Inwme is received in exchange for supplying go(KIs and Servi￿S in order to raise funds and is recognised when entitlement has occurred. Investrnent income is earned through holding assets for investment purposes such as cash deposits and propety. It ineludes Int8rest and rent. Interest income Is recognised using the effective interest method and rent income is recLyJnised as the charty'5 right to receive payment is estsblished. 1.3 Expenditure recognition All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Expenditure is recognised where there is a legal or constructive obligation to make payments to third parties, it is probable that the settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation ean be measured reliably. It is categorised under the following headings.. Costs of raising funds comprise the costs of running the hospital shop, fundraising expenses and the investment property costs, together with the associated support costs. Expenditure on charitable activities comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activities and services for beneficiaries. It includes both costs allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them. The charitable cornpany makes charitable donations in the form of the purchases of specific items of equipment for the William Harvey Hospital. The cost of these donations is tak8n to the Statement of Financial Activiti85 when the purchas8 of the 8quipm8nt has b8en authoris8d by th8 trustees. 10

They are incurred direcuy in support of expenditure on the objects of the charity. The bases on which support costs have been allocated and the analysis of these costs is induded in note 7. 1.5 Funds Unrestricted general funds are funds which can be used in accordance wth the charitable objects at the discretion of the trustees. D8signated funds repres8nt unrestricted funds that have been s8t aside by the trustee5 foi particular purposes. The designaled fund balance has been represented to ensure that the fund balance accurately reflects the designation policy adopted by the trustees. Restricted fvnds are funds that can only be used for particular restricted purpose5 Wlthin the objects of the charitsble company.
