The prlnclpal aim of the charity is:
To raise awareness of Atrial Fibrillatlon IAFI by provlding Information and support materfals for patients and
medical professionals Involved in detsrtln& dla8nosin8 and mana8in8 Atrial Flbrillation.
Princlpol objects
The princlpal objectives of the charity are:
To provide support and information on Atrial Fibrillation to those affected by this condiiion.
To advance the education of the medical profession and the general publlc on the subjett of Atrial Fibrillation.
To promote research Into the management of Atrfal Flbrillation.
The Atrial Fibrillation Association Tnistees review the aims, objectives and the activities of the Charlty each year.
Thi5 report look5 at what the Charlty has achleved and the outcomes of Its activlties in the reporting perlod,
January to December 2024. The revlew also helps to ensure that the Charity's aims, objective5 and aLtivlties
remain focused ¢)n its stated purposes.
Our vision is that every patient who receives a dlagnosis of AF ha5 access to information, support and treatment to
optlmlse the outcomes for themselves as well as their careglvets and frdmilies.
Our misslon ts to provide information, support and ac￿5 to establlshed, new or innovative treatrnents for AF.

The Trustees have pald due regard to guidance tssued by the Charity Commlsslort in decidlng what artivities the
Charlty should undertake. The Trustees confirm that they have complled wlth thelr duty under 5edion 4 of the
Charltles Att 2011 to have regard to the Charity Commlssion's general guidance on publlc benefft.

treatments for Atrial Fibrillation (AFI. AF Assoc works Elobally with heatthcare professionals and all those living
with AF.
2024 was another sucwsful and busy year for AF Association - an Increase in enquiries from both patients,
tareglvers and healthcare professlonals - all seeking to better undertand and Improve the lives of those living
with AF. AF Associatlon continues to meet these demands and is recognized globalfy as the number one source
for information and suppurt for all those affected by atrtal fibrillation.

A patient educational series, that features many medical expert5 in the field of AF who offer advice and

Patients and Careglvers can access many hours of educational videos from the comfort of their own home. 2024
saw over 40 ￿l$tr￿tiOnS and reached audiences all o¥er the world.
AF Association Patients Day- Durlng HRC2024
Held at the ICC Bimingham. this year was the second in person AF Patients Day slnce the covld pandemic
Feedback post event confirmed the presentations were very well re￿IVed wlth over 94% ststing that Lwerything
met or exceeded expectation. This was in comparison to 70% in 2023.
Patfents Day prtsvldes medlcal professional and experts wkh a unique opportunity to interdct with people and
learn insights into the debil¢tèttng symptoms and treatment5 for AF. Patients can share views and weriences with
others in slmilar situations, as well as listen to world renowned experts presenting on new developments and
treatments.

professionals, and policy make15 together, we can raise awareness and enhance AF care worldwide through our

Fundraising from one off donations, online fundraising and events continued to increase dvring 2024 from the

charitable status on 28 January 2008.

Recruitment ond appointment of trnstees
The management of the charity is the respon5ibillty of the Trustees who are elected and co-opted under the terms
of the Trust deed. There must at all times be a minlmum of three Trustees in Offi￿. The Trustees are entitled
to hold off for life. New Trustees are appointed by a resolution passed by the Tntstees in spe¢ial meeting.
Orgonisotionolstructure
The AFA Board of Trustees meet twice per year with the AFA'S Chief Executlve to oversee the dirert¥)n and
financlal management of the organlsation. The Medical Advlsory Committee members 5UPPOrt the Trustees with
the Chief Executive who Is responslble for the strategic dlrection of the organisation and mana8Èmeitt of the staff,
volunteers and consultants who assist in the runnln8 if AFA. Day to day management of the support servlces is
carried out by an Irrformation and Support Officer.

Atrial Fibrillation Assoclation is a Unlncorpordted Charity reglstered wlthin the Charity Commisslon.
1.1 Accounting tonventlon
The financial ststements have been prepared in accordance wlth the Charttys trust deed, the Chartiies Art
2011, FRS 102 The Financial Reporting Standard appllcable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" ("FRS 102")
and the Charities SORP "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practi
applicable to charitiès preparing their accounts in accordance with the Flnancial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)" {effective l January 20191. The Charlty is a Publlc
Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The Charity has taken advantage of the provlslons in the SORP for charittes not to prepare a Statement of
Cash Flows.
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to
the extent requlred to provide a true and falr view. This departure ha5 involved followlnB the Statement of
Recommended Pract(ce for charities applying FRS 102 rather than the version of the Statement of
Recommended Prartice whlch Is referred to in thÈ ReEulations but which has Sin￿ been withdrawn.
The financial ststements are prepared in sterlin& whlch is the ￿n¢170n31 wrrency of the Charity- Monetary
amounts In these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £.
The financial statements have been p￿Pared under the historical cost convention. the princSpal a￿OUnting
policles adopted are set out below.
1.2 Golng con¢em
At the time of approvlng the fiftanclal staternents, the Trustees have 3 reasonable expedation that the
Charty has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the
Trustee5 continue to adopt the Eolng concern basis of accountin8 in preparing the finanaal statements.
1.3 Charltable funds
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in fUrthernn￿ of their charitsblè
objertives.
Re<(ricted funds are subject to specific condltions by don0￿ or grnntors as to how they may be used. The
purposes and uses of the restricted funds are set out in the notes to the financial statements.
1.4 Income
Income is fecognised when the Charity is legally entitled to It after any performonce condrtions hwe been
met, the amounts can be measured ￿liab￿, and it is probable that income will be received.
Cash donatlons are recognised on receipt. Other donations are recognised once the Charfty has been
notffied of the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tsx
recoverable in relation to donations recelved under Glft Ald or deeds of covenant is reco8nised at the time of
the donation.

ofthe obligation can be measured reliabty.
Expendsture is dassified by aciivlty. The costs of each activity are made up of the total of dirKt Costs and
shared costs, Including support costs Invofved in undertaking each activty. Dlrect costs attributalAe to a
single activlty are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs which contribute to more than one actlvity
and support costs which are not attributable to a sinBle ath'vity are apportloned between those attp4ities on
a basis consistÈnt with the use of res¢urces. Central staff costs are 8llocated on the basls of time spent, and
depreciation charges are allocated on the portion of the asset's use.
1.6 Tangible fixed assets
Tangible fixed assets are initially measured at cost and subsequently measured at cost or valuation net of
depreciation and any Impalrn￿nt losses.
Depreciatton is recognlsed so as to wrlte off the cost or valuatÉon of assets les5 their residu81 values over
their useful lives on the following bases:

contrartual provisions of the instwment.

there bs a legally enforceable right to set off the recognised amounts and there is an intention to settle on a

The cosi of any unused hollday enlitlement is recognised in the period in whlch the employee's ser11￿$ are

cornmitted to termlnate the employment of an employee Drto provide termination benefits.
1.10 Ret7rement benefits
Payments to defined contrtbution retirement benefit schemes are charged as an expense as they fall due.
