Trustees’ Annual Report

The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 May 2025 which are also prepared to meet the requirements for a trustees’ report and accounts for the Charities The financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Constitution and Accounting and Report by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standards for Smaller Entities.

Governing Document

The Charity is operated under the rules of its constitution dated 27 March 2007. Overall management of the charity is the responsibility of the trustees who are elected and co-opted unde the terms of the constitution. Day to day project activity is managed and carried out by volunteers.

Aims and Objectives

Its objectives are; "the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for playing the game of basketball.”

Activities The principal activities of the charity include; Q) providing opportunities for women and girls of all ages to play basketball and develop a healthy and ethical lifestyle €} helping all members achieve their full potential, raise standards of health and well being, develop self confidence, team working, communication skills and leadership ability

Performance and Achievements

As a club run solely by volunteers, we are very fortunate to have individuals who continue to offer their time and energy in support of the Hatters.

At this time, | would like to specifically thank the trustees and committee members who meet on a regular basis to ensure the club is running effectively, financially stable and to make key decisions for the club. Viv Ajagbe and Carrie Hancock have both stepped down at the end of this year, so we want to thank them both for their contributions over the last couple of years.

Also, acknowledgement to our committed coaches and team managers who enable our teams to run efficiently throughout the season and enable all our players to have a positive and enjoyable experience whilst developing key qualities/skills on and off the court. We have many members, supporters and friends of the Hatters who regularly donate and contribute to fundraising and attend the various club events.

The season has once again been a successful one on the court with Hatters teams competing in the Women’s Super League, Yorkshire League, U16 premier, U16 conference, U14 premier, U13 Yorkshire and U12s development league.

U13: Won the Yorkshire League

U14P: Finished 3rd in the North U16C: Finished 5th in the North

U16P: Finished 3rd in the country.

U18C: Won the North Conference League and as such, achieved promotion to the North Premier next season.

Trustees’ Annual Report

The trustees responsibilities for the financial statements

The trustees are responsible for preparing financial statements for each financial period which give a clear view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the the surplus or deficit of the charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

(} select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently; (} make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the group and enable the trustees to prepare financial statements. The trustees are responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention of fraud and other irregularities.

Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and the examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts.

The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records. kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. it also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters.

The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair view” and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Because the level of income and expenditure is below £250,000, the group has opted for accounts prepared on a receipts and payments rather than an accruals basis. This is in line with Charity Commissioners guidelines for small charities and is seen as more appropriate for this project.
