## Trustees' Annual Report

The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 May 2021 which are also prepared to meet the requirements for a trustees' report and accounts for the Charities Act purposes.

The financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Constitution

and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicab to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standards for Smaller Entities.

## **Governing Document**

The Charity is operated under the rules of its constitution dated 27 March 2007. Overall management of the charity is the responsibility of the trustees who are elected and co-opted under the terms of the constitution. Day to day project activity is managed and carried out by volunteers.

## **Aims and Objectives**

Its objectives are; "the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for playing the game of basketball."

## **Activities**

The principal activities of the charity include;

- q providing opportunities for women and girls of all ages to play

basketball and develop a healthy and ethical lifestyle

- q helping all members achieve their full potential, raise standards

of health and well being, develop self confidence, team working,

communication skills and leadership ability

## **Performance and Achievements**

The club started out the 2019/20 season as usual, running the following teams and activities:

WBBL

Division 2

U18/U16/U14/U12 Junior teams

Local junior central venue leagues

School holiday basketball camps

Unfortunately all competition and leagues were suspended in March 2020 due to the Covid Pandemic when a national lockdown was initiated. Some sponsors and perennial donors were unable to fulfil their usual obligations to the club as a consequence, and as a result this had a severe financial impact on the club.

All 5 imported WBBL players had to be flown back to their home countries and the club was forced to close down. Sadly activity was unable to resume for many months due to the ongoing pandemic.

## Independent Examiner's report to the trustees of

## City of Sheffield Hatters Basketball Club for the year ended 31 May 2021

I report on the accounts of the City of Sheffield Hatters Basketball Club for the year ended 31 May 2021 which are set out on pages 6 to 8.

## **Respective responsibilities of the Trustees and the examiner**

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- q examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;

- q to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145 (5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and

- q to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner's report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records.

kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair view" and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

   - q to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and

   - q to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act

have not been met; or

- 2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## Notes to the accounts

## for the year ended 31 May 2021

## **1 Receipts and payments accounts**

Because the level of income and expenditure is below £250,000, the group has opted for accounts prepared on a receipts and payments rather than an accruals basis. This is in line with Charity Commissioners guidelines for small charities and is seen as more appropriate for this project.
