TRUSTEES REPORT YEAR ENDED MAY 2021
Objectives and activities
The charity's objectives:-
To promote the objects of the Riding for the Disabled Association, incorporating Carriage Driving, a charity registered under charity number 244108 ('The Association'), by providing disabled people with the opportunity to ride to benefit their general health, wellbeing and self-esteem, in the Bingley area.
The charity's main activities:-
To provide riding and related equestrian activities for disabled people of all ages through weekly sessions, Pony Days and Quiet Times with a Horse.
Riverside RDA was founded in June 2006 as a very small RDA group with borrowed ponies and three riders. The group now has 8 ponies/horses, 4 that they own and 4 that are on loan. We offer 9 weekly riding sessions on a Saturday to 34 riders.
Our Trustees meet regularly throughout the year and are kept up to date with group activities, any issues that need looking at, including the finances of the group. At this years AGM we welcomed new Trustees to the Board and were delighted when two of our younger volunteers joined the Trustees.
This year has been a challenging one for Riverside RDA, the COVID restrictions and lockdown meant that we were unable to offer any lessons to our riders. We kept in touch with them through Zoom meetings and sending cards, activities and certificates through the post to them. We held some competitions that the riders could join in on line as we really wanted to keep our riders engaged with the group.
In both September and January all plans were in place for a gradual re-opening of the group but sadly these plans on each occasion had to put on hold. We finally had the group ready to go in May 2021, with horses fit and new volunteers in place. 14 months after we last rode it was lovely to welcome back some of our riders even with the strict safety guidelines in place. We were grateful to Sport England for their Grant which enabled the group to survive the virus. Without this grant it looked as though there was a real possibility of the group having to close. They gave further support with a Restart Grant which helped towards purchasing new riding hats that are solely for one rider to wear, individual reins for every rider and bags to keep the riders equipment in. A grant from the Craig Charity in Bradford helped towards the cost of the PPE we needed to purchase for the group.
I am delighted to say that not only did the group survive but we are now in a good position to move forwards and for our riders to progress remembering the slogan “It’s what you can do that counts”.
We sadly lost two of our ponies this past year. Billy, who was on long term loan, returned to his owner. He is really missed by the riders as he was a firm favourite with them. Matty had to be

retired due to on going lameness problems and is now living a very happy retirement life in a field at her new home. Initially they were not replaced, to keep costs down, but as we approached Restart Time we have welcomed two new horses to the group. Charlie, a 14.2 Connemara who has already been a great asset to the group and Oreo, a 15.2 skewbald mare, who is quickly learning about being an RDA horse and taking care of her riders.
As there were no RDA competitions this year, our riders took part in a photo show held by our local Riding Club and all came away with rosettes. We also held an in house arts and craft competition which showed we had some very talented artists amongst our riders.
Our fund raising activities this year were limited due to COVID but we have held a silent auction, select the lucky square and 5p collection jars. We are very thankful for everyone’s support of these events during such a difficult time. Our riders were also very supportive with fund raising ideas for us and raised £1300 from a raffle and a craft sale. As we were unable to hold a face to face Achievement and Awards Party we held one on Zoom and celebrated our rider’s successes from both before lock down and during lock down.
After winter it became apparent that we would need to reroof our stables as they were beginning to leak. Thanks to a generous donation from Screwfix, the cost of the materials was covered and two volunteers gave their time to replace the roof.
Our priorities for the coming year are to build the group back up to full running capacity and ensure our riders have full access to riding, jumping, endurance and stable management during their sessions with us. We also will be looking to recruit new volunteers for the group to help with riding sessions and in unhorse related roles.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Riverside RDA
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 May 2021, which are set out on pages 7 and 8.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’)
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Notes to accompany the accounts
Accounting policies
Basis of accounting
The trustees have taken advantage of section 133 of the Charities Act 2011 and have prepared the accounts on a receipts and payments basis. No changes have been made to the accounts for previous years. There has been no change to the accounting policies since last year.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.
There are no restricted funds to carry forward to the financial year 2021/2022
