Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
During 2021 we had fewer Covid-19 restrictions than the previous year, but was still about trying to restart activities and encourage member participation. The Racing season got underway a little later than planned on Easter Sunday (4[th] April) and the Commodores Cup was postponed until the 2[nd] May.
Unfortunately our Open Day was cancelled, but we encouraged members to bring their own family and visitors to enjoy our facilities, allowing members to use inflatable kayaks and SUP’s to encourage family participation.
The Junior Section was finally able to use the newly acquired RS Tera’s and enjoyed a healthy season of sailing ending with a fun filled end of season party. We look forward to continuing to develop the children’s sailing skills and confidence. Our RYA Sail training team and volunteer instructors were able to run a few level 1 and 2 courses for new members who had waited patiently during Covid to learn to sail. The Club continued to run the angling section under Licence from CEMEX.
The success of Hykeham Sailing Club is all about its Members and the Volunteers that ensure it keeps going. The time that individuals give to help keep HSC ticking is valuable.
Looking to the future, the members have approved a new constitution and agreed for the club to make an application to form a CIO. This is important for the future stability of the club.
We are looking to renegotiate the lease with Cemex and being a CIO will assist us with this. It also opens other opportunities which will benefit the long-term future of the club.
We have established a good relationship with the local police and town council and hope to develop this during in 2022 to reduce antisocial behaviour around the lake site.
We will continue to work closely with our affiliate members Hykeham Sailability and LDSA and support their activities.
