Section D Achievements and erformance p

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The Club, like many other charities has had a different year in 2020, coping with the challenges faced by the Covid-19 pandemic. After the initial national lockdown, we were able to provide socially distanced casual sailing with limited clubhouse facilities and later in the season were able to introduce some organised racing, but this was cut short by the second national lockdown at the end of October.

We were able to benefit from the Business Rates Covid Grant, which meant that we were able to reduce membership fees to reflect the reduction in available sailing time. This resulted in the Club generally maintaining its membership level. We are grateful to our membership for their continued support.

We were unable to run our usual ‘Taster days’ to enable adults and accompanied children to experience dinghy sailing. The RYA had to cancel their rebranded ‘Push the Boat out’ / ‘Discover Sailing’ marketing and consequently we were unable to offer an open day.

Similarly the previously flourishing Junior Section was unable to meet and try out the newly acquired RS Tera’s. We were able to relax some club rules temporarily to enable families to use inflatable kayaks, so that they were able to get some time on the water.

As part of our RYA Sail training accreditation, we did manage to run some powerboat and safety boat training courses, mainly for our affiliate member “RAF Waddington’. These were managed under Covid-Secure guidelines and risk assessment. We were unable to run the RYA Level 1&2 courses as our instructors are all volunteers and many were in a shielding category, which meant we were unable to provide sufficient instructors.

The Club continued to run the angling section under Licence from CEMEX. Angling members were subject to the same limitation on facilities, but managed to maintain their membership level.

Looking to future years, the Committee recognise that it is important for the Club to invest in the Clubhouse, including changing room / shower facilities, in order to be able to maintain pre-Covid standard of access.
