## **H-PAN’s aims and objectives**
H-PAN is a charitable organisation passionately dedicated to relieving poverty and suffering, empowering underprivileged individuals and communities, advancing education, promoting social justice, addressing global issues such as sustainability and climate change, and advancing the Christian faith. Our mission is rooted in a commitment to transforming lives and fostering hope for a better future.
We operate under several project-focused names to better align with the diverse nature of our initiatives:
- SOL ICC (Source of Life International Christian Centre): Focuses on advancing Christian faith and spiritual
- growth.
- SOL House: Provides facilities for recreation and community activities.
- SOL (Stand Out Loud): Engages young people in drama and filmmaking.
- SOL Station: Operates radio and television platforms.
- SOL (Shine Out Live): Hosts events and talent shows for young people.
- SOL (Seeds of Light) Christian Academy: Offers education for children aged 3 to 18 years.
- H-PAN Creative, H-PAN FC, and H-PAN Soccer: Promote creativity and sports, particularly football.
- SOL Institute, H-PAN Africa, and H-PAN University College: Focus on higher education, capacity building, and
- pan-African development initiatives.
Core Activities and Commitments
## **H-PAN exists to:**
- Educate and train socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, especially children and young people
- from rural communities.
- Raise awareness of poverty and injustice, while challenging systems and structures that perpetuate these
issues.
- Promote solidarity with the needy and create platforms for advocacy and action.
- Address global challenges, including sustainability, climate change, and inequalities, through innovative and
- community-based solutions.
Our Work in Poverty Relief and Capacity Building Through capacity building and awareness campaigns, H-PAN equips individuals and communities with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to improve their quality of life sustainably. We support projects that:
- Provide education and vocational training to empower individuals to secure stable and dignified livelihoods.
- Develop programs addressing environmental sustainability and climate change, promoting practices such as
- reforestation, renewable energy use, and sustainable agriculture.
- Create initiatives to reduce inequalities, particularly by supporting vulnerable populations and addressing
- systemic barriers.
- Deliver targeted assistance to the most vulnerable—including children, young people, and families in rural
- communities—to ensure they have access to essential resources such as healthcare, clean water, and education.
Fostering Change Through Collaboration H-PAN is driven by the compassion and dedication of its staff, volunteers, and partners. Together, we deliver sustainable, high-impact community-based services and initiatives. By raising awareness and fostering collaboration with other stakeholders, we amplify our impact and encourage collective action against poverty and injustice.

Adapting to Global Realities To fulfil our mission of eradicating poverty and injustice, H-PAN adapts to the everchanging global realities. We prioritize learning from successes, embracing innovation, and educating individuals, communities, and stakeholders. Through shared efforts, we can collectively address challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
## **2023 Annual Review**
During the year 2023, H-PAN continued to provide and upgrade its key services, reaching more individuals and communities in need. We experienced an 18% increase in the number of well-wishers and volunteers, and a 22% rise in donors. Additionally, support from local partners, churches, and businesses grew by 17%, enabling us to expand our impact.
## **Highlights of 2023:**
## Education and Training:
- Increased intake in educational programs with enhanced support from stakeholders and parents.
- Maintained school fees despite added resources and services.
- Purchased a minibus to improve access to facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, and museums.
- Introduced supplementary schooling for underperforming students, ensuring sustainability.
## SOL (Seeds of Light) Christian Academy:
2023 was a landmark year for SOL Christian Academy, where we achieved remarkable milestones:
- Over 85% of students achieved above-average grades, with notable improvements in literacy and numeracy.
- The Academy introduced new extracurricular programs, including a robotics club and creative writing
- workshops, which received overwhelming participation.
- Our sports teams won regional accolades in football and athletics, showcasing the talent and commitment of
- our students.
- Despite these successes, the Academy urgently requires a new science laboratory and enhanced sports
- facilities to meet the growing needs of our students. Plans are also underway to construct a new building with additional classrooms and multipurpose spaces to accommodate our increasing enrolment and provide a more conducive learning environment.
## Global Outreach:
- Strengthened partnerships in Africa, including poultry farming initiatives and preparations for building primary
- and secondary schools in Nfou, Cameroon.
- Consolidated further education and training programs in Zambia, focusing on access and sustainability.
- REACH (Homeless Project):
- Continued partnerships with organizations like Fair Share, Food Cloud, and Giving World.
- Provided essential items, back-to-work support, and access to digital resources for homeless individuals.
- Youth Enterprise and Employment Hub:
- Delivered initiatives in graphic design, web development, video production, and more.
- Supported young people with job searches, upskilling, and entrepreneurial training.
- Christian Faith Advancement:
- Strengthened mission work locally and internationally, with plans to establish new worship centres.
## 2024 Targets and New Projects
For 2024, H-PAN is committed to expanding its reach and impact. Key targets and projects include:
- STEM for BAME Communities: Launching initiatives in Greater Manchester to encourage STEM education and
- careers for BAME youth.

- Capacity Building Projects:
- Supporting rural communities in Kapiri, Zambia, and Nfou, Cameroon, with education, training, and sustainable
- development programs.
- Introducing vocational training and agricultural development projects tailored to local needs.
- Educational Outreach: Expanding programs to support underprivileged children, including new partnerships
- with key stakeholders to enhance education and training opportunities.
- Youth and Further Education:
- Broaden activities for young people aged 2-19 years.
- Enhance further education and training programs to support career readiness and entrepreneurship.
- SOL Christian Academy Development:
- Prioritizing the construction of a new science laboratory to support STEM education.
- Developing modern sports facilities to promote physical education and well-being.
- Building a new facility to provide additional classrooms and community spaces for holistic learning.
- Sustainability and Climate Action:
- Integrating sustainability practices into existing projects.
- Promoting climate-resilient agriculture and renewable energy use in rural communities.
- New Partnerships: Strengthening collaborations with local and international organizations to amplify the
- impact of our initiatives.

## **Chartered Accountant’s Report to the Trustees of H-PAN (HOPE FOR THE POOR AND NEEDY)**
I report on the accounts of the Trust For the year ended 31 DECEMBER 2023, which are set out on pages 7 to 11.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the 1993 Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts (under section 43(3)(a) of the 1993 Act);
- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 43(7)(b) of the 1993 Act); and
- To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements?
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 41 of the 1993 Act; and
- To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act as amended.
Have not been met; or
(2) To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The charitable company is entitled to exemption from audit under Section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 for the year ended 31[st] December 2023.
The members have not required the charitable company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the year ended 31[st] December 2023 in accordance with section 476 of the companies Act 2006.
The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for
- a) Ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections 386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and
- b) Preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company as at the end of each financial year and of its surplus or deficit for each financial year in accordance with the requirements of Sections 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to financial statements, so far as applicable to the charitable company.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the special provisions of Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small charitable companies and with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective April 2008).

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES**
## **Accounting convention**
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for smaller Entities (effective April 2008), the Companies Act 2006 and the requirements of the Statement of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting by Charities.
## **Incoming resources**
All incoming resources are included on the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy.
## **Resources expended**
Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings, they have been allocated to the activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
## **Tangible fixed assets**
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.
Plant and machinery -20% on reducing balance
Office equipment -20% on reducing balance
Motor vehicle -20% on reducing balance
Computer equipment -20% on reducing balance
## **Taxation**
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objectives of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

## Note 13. TAXATION
H – PAN (HOPE FOR THE POOR AND NEEDY) is a registered charity and is thus exempt from taxation of its income and gains falling within Section 505 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 or Section 256 of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 to the extent that they are applied to its charitable objectives.
No tax charge has arisen in the year.
