## **NEW LIFE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH LEIGH REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30[TH] 2025**

## **Objects of the Charity**

The charity, which is a church, is governed by a deed of Trust and is constituted as an unincorporated charity. The charity's principal objects, as set out in its governing document, are:

• To advance the Christian faith in accordance with the church’s

Statement of Faith, in Leigh, Lancashire, throughout the United Kingdom, and in other parts of the world as the church council may determine.

• To relieve sickness, promote and preserve good health, and alleviate financial hardship by providing funds, goods, services, counselling, and support, in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the church council may from time to time determine.

• To advance education in such ways and in Leigh, Lancashire, throughout the United Kingdom, and in other parts of the world as the church council may think fit.

We desire to provide a relevant spiritual voice in a time of confusion. Reaching out to the community oIering guidance and direction for positive living, leading to a preferred moral and ethical fulfilment. Speaking to the hearts of our children and youth so they have a good grounding to make important moral ethical and spiritual decisions in their adult life.

## Review of the charity's main activities and achievements

To further the above objects and vision, the charity's main activities and achievements were as follows:

## Sunday worship services

At New Life Church Leigh, we have continued to gather regularly for Christian worship each Sunday. Our worship format has remained consistent, fostering a sense of unity and inclusion among all attendees. The service starts with everyone in the congregation gathering together. This approach ensures that people of all ages take part in the opening segment of worship, which focuses on singing and prayer.

Following this, children depart to receive Bible lessons tailored to their age group, using materials that are both engaging and appropriate for their developmental stage.

community.

Additionally, once a month, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

At the end of each month, we host an all-age meeting where children remain in the main room for the entire duration of the service. This gathering is designed with a structured format that considers the diverse levels of understanding among the children, ensuring that the content is accessible and engaging for every age group.

## General Church Activities

In June 2024, Pastor Julian commenced a teaching series focusing on the Gospel of John. Over the course of the following year, this series formed the foundation for the church’s scriptural study, with regular sessions delivered up until just after June 2025.

During this period, the series was occasionally supplemented with a diverse range of messages shared by members of the preaching team. This approach provided the congregation with both continuity in the study of the Gospel of John, along with opportunities for exploring other biblical teaching, enhancing the church’s spiritual education and engagement.

Regular Sunday attendees, including children, have averaged around forty to fifty people each week with that number steadily increasing. This is an average increase of 25% on last year’s attendance and we expect growth to continue at a similar rate for the foreseeable future.

NLCL is an active participant in Churches Working Together in Leigh, and frequently demonstrates leadership in collaborative outreach initiatives. This involvement is particularly evident through the church’s engagement in the annual Walk of Witness, with 2025 being no exception.

equipment. This equipment has proven to be invaluable, especially for our Wednesday breakfast outreach, Fresh Ground.

In late 2024, the church introduced weekly rehearsal evenings for the Praise and Worship teams. These sessions serve a dual purpose: while they provide essential opportunities for team members to practise and refine their musical contributions, they are equally valued as times for fellowship. The rehearsals foster a sense of unity within the group, strengthening relationships and enhancing the overall eIectiveness of the ministry.

The church was blessed by the contributions of our African ladies, who organised and led a Sunday morning dedicated to African worship songs. This vibrant service showcased the richness and diversity of African Christian music, creating an atmosphere of joyful praise and unity among the congregation.

In November 2024, Maria Bailey was appointed as the leader of New Life Kids. With over thirty years' experience in running a children's nursery and an out of school club, Maria brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. Her extensive background in childcare and development is expected to enhance the quality and eIectiveness of the church's children's ministry, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environments for all participants.

Keeping our focus on children, on 30[th] October we organised a Light Party for both church members and the wider community. Designed as a positive alternative to Halloween, this event provided a safe and welcoming environment for families to come together. Activities were tailored to celebrate light and hope, encouraging participation from children and adults alike. The Light Party was well received and oIered families an enjoyable occasion to engage with the church outside of traditional worship settings.

In Christmas 2024 we held a Breakfast in Bethlehem event with crafts and a breakfast for church members and the wider community. This was very popular and well attended.

During Easter and Christmas 2025 we welcomed Coverdale Puppets to present the Easter and Christmas messages. Although orientated towards children, a remarkable number of adults found the messages both engaging and informative.

external meeting place specifically for our children’s ministry. The construction of this facility has utilised nearly all available space in the rear yard. Despite the initial cost and use of all our rear land the decision to proceed was deemed essential, as it directly supports the needs of our expanding children’s ministry. The new meeting place will provide a dedicated area for activities, ensuring our young members have a safe and suitable environment in which to gather and learn.

Once again we extended an invitation to Barry Woodward and in March 2025 he spoke at our Sunday morning service.

A number of people expressed an interest in the Christian faith.

In April we held a Baptism Service and hope to continue this as newer Christians join our fellowship.

May 2025 saw our Pastors Julian and Susanna attend the Assemblies of God Annual Convention.

## Home Groups

We currently have two Home Groups that meet on Thursday evenings. One that meets in a church member’s home. The other meets in our newly built children’s ministry room, making full use of that facility.

Each week, about 8-10 people come together in each group to talk through the previous Sunday’s sermon, spend time in prayer and fellowship. We continue to encourage people to attend these groups with the hope that this will help more of our church family experience the encouragement and connection that comes from being part of a Home Group.

## New Life Kids

least 12 families who are regularly attending NLCL and on average around 16 children attending New Life Kids each Sunday.

There is a small team of volunteers who teach, lead and help the children. All the leaders are DBS checked and we’re endeavouring to retain our current leaders and helpers as well as recruit more.

## Men's Ministry

The Men’s Ministry has experienced steady and fruitful growth throughout the 2024/2025 period. This ongoing development is reflected in both the increased engagement of participants and the deepening sense of community among the group.

The men meet on a monthly basis, gathering on Friday evenings. These meetings are thoughtfully organised, sometimes featuring guest speakers who bring fresh perspectives and encouragement to the group.

A common thread running through all the activities is the sharing of a meal together. This approach not only furthers a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere but also serves as a base for meaningful conversations and fellowship.

The primary aim of these gatherings is to build lasting relationships among the men involved, strengthening bonds and encouraging mutual support within the church.

## Women's ministry

meet monthly either Friday evenings for supper or Saturday mornings for Breakfast. There is usually a guest speaker and a time of fellowship. This provides an excellent opportunity for the ladies to build relationships with one another, with particular attention given to welcoming and connecting with new visitors

The ministry remains committed to seeking and serving women who are consistently attending NLCL, while also making space to develop meaningful connections with newcomers. Through these regular gatherings, the Women's Ministry fosters a sense of belonging and support within the church community.

## Evangelism/Outreach

We regularly partner with other churches in Leigh for outreach events but also run our own ‘Fresh Ground’ outreach every Wednesday from 10:00am to noon. We provide free bacon and sausage barmcakes, tea, coIee, cakes, and a welcoming space for our visitors to relax and chat.

Our service supports people facing loneliness, mental health issues, family hardship, unemployment, and addiction. Visitors appreciate both the food and the friendly, non-judgemental environment.

We continue to work with Wigan Council and the Warm Welcome Campaign, and our outreach has been featured on their social media. Our services are oIered year-round.

## Income and Expenditure Overview

Financial Performance for the Year

During the past year, the charity experienced a decrease in income, with a total reduction of £14,017.15 compared to the previous year. Income for the period amounted to £30,906.70. At the same time, expenditure increased by £971.12, resulting in a total outlay of £33,746.80. The rise in expenditure was primarily due to the construction of a new room dedicated to the children's ministry. This investment underscores the organisation's commitment to supporting and enhancing its programmes for younger members.

Grant Income

The reduction in income can be attributed to the absence of grant income, with the exception of a single grant of £350 from Deal for Communities. Household Support Payment (Wigan Council). This support was provided to assist with meeting the objectives of our Fresh Ground initiative, which aims to provide a safe, welcoming, and functional space for community engagement and outreach.

Our remaining funds are unrestricted and may be used for any purpose.

## Governance

Responsibility for setting policy and for making operating decisions rest with the trustees who meet regularly to monitor the activities of the charity. The responsibility for the daily operations of the charity, specifically the church, has been delegated to the pastors. The pastors are tasked with leading the day-to-day activities and providing spiritual direction, ensuring that the organisation’s mission is carried out in all aspects of its work.

Appointment of Trustees

process involves a careful selection and recruitment procedure. This is carried out through a majority vote by the existing trustees, guaranteeing

the current governing body.

Following these established recruitment procedures, on 20[th] April 2025, Chris Bullpit was appointed as a trustee of the charity.

This appointment came after the resignation of Sharon McBride earlier in the year.

Trustees' Financial Responsibilities

accounting year, ensuring that all receipts and payments made by the charity throughout the year are accurately recorded.

It is our duty to maintain proper accounting records that can, at any time, reliably present the financial position of the charity. This enables us to confirm that the financial statements adhere to the requirements set out in the Charities Act 2011.

In addition to these responsibilities, we must safeguard the assets of the charity and take reasonable measures to prevent fraud or any other irregularities from occurring.

## Approval

This report was approved by the trustees and signed on their behalf by:

Independent Examination Report of Accounts
For Year Ended 30th June 2025
I have completed my examination and confirm that no material matters have come to my
attention other than those detsiled below (see Queries. Pg 2}. I have a number of
recommendations for improving the record-keeping and speeding up the annual filing of
accounts to the Charity Commission. As there ha5 been a healthy increase in income in
the last 2 years, implementbng changes will make management of the financial aspects of
the charity le55 burdensome. These recommendations are set out below:
Petty Cash
l - Offering monies form the greater part of the ChariVs income and are mostly received
in cash on Sundays. For accountability. tsyo persons should count the cash and a receipt
for that week's receipts should be produced. signed for and filed with 311 other receipts
and expense chits in the Receipts folder for the relevant month.
2- Ideally, where there are a number of expense receipts pinned together. make out a
simple, summarised, tally sheet, showing the total of all the attached receipts.
3- On the tally sheet. show the date when the entry was made in the books (not the date
of the receipt or payment). Simi13rly, file the receipts in the month of entry in the books.
4- The amount of petty cash being held can be quite high and this pose5 3 potenti31 risk. It
Is recommended to consider maintsining a lower amount being held in petty cash
(possibly hold a float rather than just paying out expenses in cash each month, with
payment instead by theque or bank transfer). Recommend therefore. more regular cash
banking. to reduce the monies held in petty cash. As the level of income is risin& this is a
prudent measure.
Bank Account
l - Keep receipts and expen5e5, paid directly out of the bank- by cheque or transfer- in
separate folder from Petty Cash. ITreat them as two distinct accounts).
2- Recommend asking the bank to produce bank statements on the last day of 3 calendar
month. Examples are: Apr 2025 includes 1st May. June 2025 includes 31° May and also I
July. This is most unhelpfijl when balancing the financial records monthly against the bank
account.
3- As with petty cash, receipts and expense5 chits should be filed in the month when they
appear on the bank statement Irather than the date created).
4- Large value advances should have a matching chit. with a brief note of what it ￿as
intended for. The reopient should sign the chit It is filed with the bank income and
expenses for that month. When the advance becomes an expense. any excess unspent is
returned to petty cash or the bank account and cross-referred to the original advan
payment. Where the advance becomes an expense but is greater than the original
advance, cross-refer the balance being paid out, with the original advance, by date and
Folio/Cheque No.

Footnote..
l am providing a couple of accounting spreadsheets for review and recommend these lor
similarl are implemented from the beginning of the Financial Year. l.july 2026.
Cash & Bank Book.. breaks down income and expenses by main categories per
week, per month in 12 tabs. The 13 tsb summarises these entries for the fijll
year. This tsb doesn't require completingas the individual months are colletted by
formulas from the monthly sheets. Simply needs the weekly entrie5 recording in
the 12 tabs, which will also give an analysis for the Trustees. by income stream and
expense for the lull year.
Financial Accounts: This is purely a summary ofthe breakdown above in the form
of a Monthly Return for the Trustees, showing opening and closing balances of
Petty Cash and Bank Account movements in a straighfft)rward summary.
Ilt might be a good exercise to create the above spreadsheets for the linancial year
coming to an end in June 2026. Not only will it give good training for the user but will also
speed up the processing of that years, financial accounts for submission to the Charities
Commission. Using these spreadsheets will also help to identify any monthly irregularitie5
between the petty cash and bank account entries).
Save thefvlders with a unique nome. i.e. Treat the ones provided as Master Templotes.
