Report for the Year
The Ross Foundatlon was created in 2(L17 with the mission to help children and young people discover their strength5
by offerin8 them a wide ran8e of world-class educational opportunitle* We continue to support organisations that
inspire young people and encourage them to tske the chance to embrace new skills and passions. Slnce its foundlng
the Foundation has supported arts and educational oryanisations with grants totalling nearly £30 million. Our main
areas of focus are across the Easl Midlands. Yorkshire. Uncoln5hire and Northamptonshire but we do some work in
London that has benefit across the whole country.
The Foundation has contlnued to accept applications throughout the year and has seen a huge Increase In charltable
requests followlng the pandemlc. We are not able to help every de5ervin8 cause and have tried to continue our focus
on supporting and helping our exlstln8 partners with thelr ongoing strategic projects.
We partner wlth organlsatlons which promote all strands of diverslty and malntaln regU￿r contact wlth them so that
we are able to monitor the Impact of our work and delNer positNe outcomes for general public beneflt. Updates on
some of the major projects we have supported this year are Induded In thls reporL
Trustees have met regularly throughout the year to consider the donatlons. the ongolng work of the Foundaik)n and
disCUSS Potential new projects. All appllcations are consldered on an individual basis and dixussed by Trustees at
quarterly meeting5. Trustees erbdeavour to grant fundin8 to projects where there Is most need and where the
donatlons wlll be most effectivefy utllised io make a dlfference.
Natlonal Portralt Gallery
The Foundatlon announted last year its new partnershipwlth the Natlonal Portralt Gallery and 5UPPOrtof The Insplrln8
People Project. The first donations have now been made lo help transfomi the NPG'S bi88est development of its
bulldln8 In St Martln's Place slnce 1896.
The work Is pro8resslng V￿11 and Is on schedule for C(￿Pletion in Summer 2023. This includes the creation of a new
and MO￿ welcomlng visitor entrance and public space on the buildin￿$ North Fapde whlch will enhance the Gallerf5
vislbility and accesslblllty. The room for the outdoor space will be made by openin8 up previousfy closed off areas by
movin8 railings and will centrally feature the Henry Irving statue. In recognltk)n of the R05s Foundation's donatlon
the new entrance wlll be named Ross Place.

Unlverslty of Lincoln Medlcal School
The Ross Foundation and Rob Luca5 donated to the final construrtlon Stage of the new medlcal school buildlng at
Lincoln Universlty and this prestigious bulldin8 is now training students to be the Dortors of the future. Currently
there are 296 students enrolled on the programmes wfth a further 160 due to stsrt courses next year.
The Ross Library on the l floor also houses the library collection5 for Medicine. Pharniacy. Llfe Sciences. Health
Sclences and Chemistry. The Foundation is also pleased to support the speciallst research teoms of the Llncoln
International Institute for Rural Health wlh)se purpose is to improve the health and wellbeSng of rural, remote and
coastal populations.

Davld Ros5 Educatlon Trust
The Davld Ross EducatFon Trust is a network of 34 unique and diverse academies operatin8 in Some of the most
challen8in8 communities across Yorkshire, Lincolnshi￿, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and London. The
academles have a comblned pupil capacity of 16,8(K) once all cohorts at the Trust's free schools are full. The
Foundation is the sponsor of DRET and monitors the Endowment fund set up on behalf of the Academy Trust. We
contlnue to focus on broadenin8 horizons of all pupils and locus on the enrichment actNities of music and sport,
encouraglftg teamwork amor8sl all chlldren. The benefits are clear. These opportunltles support the learning in the
classroom and give students the experiences that brin8 to life UCAS and job applications and e￿oUrase them to
realise the importance of developlng soclal and leadership skills.
88% of DRET Schools are now Good or Outstsndlng and results continue to improve across the board and work
contlnues to supportthe remalnlng vulnerable schoo15. We have been delighted to support the return of DRET holiday
artivity and residential trips which has had such a positive Impart on the well being of pupils, self-expres5ion and
8eneral morale.

Nevill Holt Opera
The Nevill Holt Opera had another very success￿1 year perforniing back in the theatre for the flrst time after the
pandemlc. The Foundatlon was delighted to 5UPIM)rt the charitable work of the company again which NHO dellvers
through the Community and Educatlon Programmes as well as the NHO Young Foundation Artists Scheme.
The Festival comprised perfomiances of La Boheme and The Barber of Sevllle at Nevill Holt and subsequent
perfomiances travelled to Lincoln Cathedral and to the Sage at Gateshead.

The Foundatlon was delighted to support the lnTh)Vat￿e"Night at the Opera" project this year In partnership with the
Davld Ross Educatlon Trust. the Royal Opera House and The Voices Foundatlon.
The projert was deslgned to help delrver a whole temi's worth of musk educatlon to ILX)O year S prlmary school
students in the East Mldlands. Over IOLX) students from 22 primary Schools came tO8ether to perform at various
venues stngln8 scenes from the Hansel and Gretel opera as well as the Ellxlr of Love. It was a fantastlc opportunity for
students to gain such a sense of fulfilment from leamlNd and perforniing musk from memory.

Hanging Stones- The Goldsworthy Project
The Hanging Stone5 projert ha5 had a very busy year and the Foundation has had the benefrt of Andy Goldsworth￿s
tlme for much of the year to continue workin8 on these important ple￿$ of publlc art in the Rosedale valley. The
project Involves a walk connecting 10 contemporary artworks which are created from the footprints of Tuins of ten
existing buildings. all in various states of disrepair.
The name Hanging Stones su88esls precarlousness- appropriate for a project that looks to re-establish derelirt and
seMI-de￿Ilet buildings in order to give them new purpose. thus ar￿$t1￿ thelr Inevttable slkle Into dSsrepalr and in
some cases imminent collapse.

Lincoln Cathedral Connected
The Foundation has continued its support of The Historic Lincoln T￿￿t and Is dell8hted that the new Education Cent
at Lincoln Cathedral is now open and able to welcome children and their families to enjoy many events at the new
centre.
The Llncoln Cathedral Connected projecl supported by the Ross Foundaiion is a scheme which rad￿alty Improves the
Cathedral's settin8 and visitor experience. offering more engaging and dynamic spaces for a wider number of vi5itor5
to enjoy. It alms to engage people in the Cathedral's past, archaeology and orchttecture thrO￿h art￿ltIeS and events
to education. inspire and inform. Children love the awe and wonder of visitin8 the Cathedral. Puplls enjoy artfve
learning through role-play and dressing-up. handling objects. creatingthemed craft5, listening and just lookin8 around.

Brftlsh Paralympics Association
It was another busy year of artrditie5 With the BPA and engagement with the DRET schools. desplte the uncertalntles
of lockdown. InnovatNe zoom meetings and virtual sports seswns were enthusiastically enjoyed by many children
wlth the Insplrational coachlng of Paralympic athletes as the partnership between BPA and the Ross Foundation
moved into it5 second year.
The partnershlp has two main objectNes'. to challenge perceptions of disabled people and to encourage grassroots
participation and excellence in SFQrt throu8h en8a8ing wlth the younger generation. The 8eijirE 2022 Paralymplc
Winter Games held in February this year put a spotlight on the athletes. extraordinary abilities and reminded the
world of the power of sport to Inspire the nation ènd the Rots Foundatlon was dellghted to be a part of helping to
achieve thls.

The Foundation made its annual donatlon to the University of Nottiftgham to continue Its support. This contributes
to the on8oin8 success of The David R055 Sports Village which provides world clas5 SPOrtin8 facilrties to all students at
the Unlverslty and many visiting sports team across the world.

Salnt Vlncent Volcano Relief Fund
In April 2021 a national emergency was dedared In St Wincent as a result of the Continui￿ eruptions of La Soufrière
Volcano.
Approximate￿ 17,CXXJ cstizens of St Vincent were evacuated from their homes and were INin8 in makeshift shelters
wlthout anyelectricty and no watersuppty. Havingconnections with the Island wheie some puplls from the Education
Trust had been on an environmental conservatk>n vlslt. the Foundation was keen to help with a donation. vla the
Mustlque Charltable Trnst, to delbver much needed emer8enoi supplles; medkal supplles, such as nebulisers and
asthma inhalers: f￿$h water: clothes and meals.
