SC040037 NESSR Trustees Annual Report 2024 2024 was a difficult year for us. It was the firstfuLI year of running NESSR by the new trustees and without our founderto guide us. It was a steep learning curve on many levels as we dealt with taking dogs in, dealingwith applications, rehoming of dogs. and taking over the accounts, all of which were dealt with by Cynthia and Graham with their vast experience. Although the new trustees had been involved with NESSR for the past 18 years or so, we had never been invoLved with the in-depth running of the rescue and everything thatwent on in the background. We took in 27 dogs during 2024, and could have taken that many again, but as ever. a lack of reliable foster homes hampers our efforts. We are not alone in this" a lot of rescues are struggling to find foster carers atthis time. Ofthe 27 dogs we took into NESSR 2 unfortunately had to be put to sleep due to ill health 1 went off to train as a police dogwith Durham Constabulary 1 had to have significant surgery with a vet bill of almost £3000 to cover. We were very fortunate to have received a tegacy donation this yearwhich has helped our finances. As Vet bills continue to be our biggest expenditure with £16350 spent on veterinary care during 2024, we introduced a minimum adoption donation of £300 to help cover the costs. All dogs are chipped, vaccinated. receive flea and worm treatment (where necessary} and neutered (unLess there is a medical reason why they can't be). Finding the right homes for the dogs is always our priority, but we have to be realistic and try to cover the costs we are spending on preparing dogs for rehoming. The adoption donation alone barely covers routine veterinary treatment, and we still need to payfor unexpected illness. operations. day to day care, and feeding, of both short term and permanent foster dogs. We aLso need to cover the overheads incurred in the normal running of a charity, such as vehicle costs and Public Liability Insurance. Fundraising continues through online games, raffles, auctions, and selling goods either purchased, made by, or donated to NESSR. Responsibility for the day-to-day running of NESSR has been divided between the newtrustees. alLowingthe Chair to take a step back and predominantly oversee things. One trustee deals with the rehoming activities and one deals with the finances. We both continue to foster and recruit new fosterers and are in daily contact with each other regardingthe running of the charity. Whilst it has been a tough year in many respects it has also been an enjoyable one seeingthe dogs going off to their new homes. and most of the newfamilies keep in touch and update us about the dogs. If this year is anything to go by 2025 will be just as busy, with backyard breeding continuing to be an issue for rescues. and the advent of peopLe going back to officelsite work after COVID. We look forward to helping where we can in 2025. ¥ ￿SsE 7¢4dtee4
