Objects of the charity
In the areas of West Somerset District Council and such adjoining and nearby areas as the Trustees may from time to time determine (the area of benefit) the promotion of the moral, physical, social and spiritual growth of children and young people based on the Christian faith in both formal and informal educational contexts.
Achievements & performance
The Project continues to work ecumenically but is particularly contributing to and helping to deliver the vision of the Diocese of Bath and Wells in the Exmoor area, and is supporting the mission of the West Somerset Methodist Circuit. The Project is promoting and sharing the Christian faith in an accessible, practical and positive way to children, young people and their families.
The Project Workers continue to operate as an ecumenical team with other church workers to provide outreach and support as much as possible, especially when Covid restrictions started to ease. Following a period of mainly online provision due to Covid, and many school senior leadership staff changes, new links and relationships were established. Lynne worked particularly hard on this during the 2021 autumn term and 2022 spring term whilst Jess was on maternity leave. Activities and support offered during the year included:
Spring/Summer 2021
-
Minehead First School – Easter assembly held in person, the first for a long time
-
On-line assembly at West Somerset College
-
Gradually returning to presence in schools, including collective worship at Timberscombe, St Michaels and Minehead First Schools
-
Talking about Leavers’ assemblies
-
Church symbols workshop planned with Minehead First
-
Some on line assemblies remained on offer
Autumn/Winter 2021
-
Summer day camp for three days at Treborough
-
Holiday Club with Minehead Methodists – pirate themed, Paul’s conversion
-
Porlock Fun Day at St Dubricius School
-
St Andrew’s Club - running outside in the vicarage garden, moved inside to church in second half term. A hot meal served – establishing strong links with first school families and Christian community building.
-
Prayer Shed established at St Michael’s First School – prayer space decorated and filled with reflections and prayers
-
Minehead First School – assemblies for Remembrance, Harvest, Christmas
-
Pumpkin Trail – offered twice following inclement weather on 31 October
-
Support to West Somerset College families in light of a particular tragedy
-
Ongoing concerns about Covid infection rates prevented several in person activities – Lynne supported outside events and services.
Spring 2022
-
RE support offer in schools welcomed and with SIAMS - continuing to build new and good relationships with new headteachers.
-
Collective worship started at Old Cleeve School
-
LB advised she was effectively starting from scratch with schools following restrictions and widespread changes in school headships.
-
St Andrew’s Club
-
Bible workshop – booked for Timberscombe
-
Church visits – arranged for Minehead First and Old Cleeve schools as part of RE Christianity topic – tour of churches, looking at church symbols with work books.
Financial review
The increased regular contributions from churches in the Exmoor Deanery was sustained. Further grants have been gratefully received from the Minehead Church Institute and Hall Trust, the second of three years of funding from the Methodist District Trust Fund and West Somerset Methodist Circuit – this is of great help to the future sustainability of the Project. The Accounts were presented to Trustees in September 2022.
