Aim & Pur
Romford & District Synagogue has the responsibility of cooperating with the Chief Rabbi's Office
in promoting the advancement of Judaism in accordance with the statements of belief, Sabbath
services and social events.
The Synagogue is also specrfically responsible for its members and their wellbeing.

The Synagogue is committed to enabling as many people as possible to come and pray on Friday
night and Saturday moming for the Sabbath Servi￿S.
Atthe same time during the year there are other religious festivals. and it is the Trustees and
Board members responsibility to advise members of the Synagogue when these
festivals occur and at what time.
All festivals are religious and held on Synagogue premises.
The Synagogue maintains an overview of prayer throughout its community and is committed
to making the serrfices more understandable to the community.
The services held at the Synagogue assist in putting faith into practice through the
prayers and semions.
When planning the activities for the year, the Board and Trustees consider the Commission's
guidan￿ on public benefits and, in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the
advancement of religion. In particular we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as
part of the communty through..
Attendance to Synagogue on the Sabbath. high holidays and festivals Community Support from
members ac￿ptIng invitations to attend speciatty hosted evenings such as talks from prominent
figures
Athievements and rfomiance
The Synagogue is keen to offer a range of services during the year for the community which
they find both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling.
Every year the Synagogue hosts a Passover(Seder night Which tells the story of the exodus of
the Jewish People out of the land of Egypt.

All are welcome to attend our services on Friday evenings and Saturday servi￿8 and the year-
round festivals. We encourage whole families to join us for our high holidays and Sabbath
services.
At present the Synagogue has 265 members. These include transfers from Barking and
Becontree Synagogue and Harold Hill.
We would like to continue and to improve on schooleducation visits to our Synagogue. These
visits are always requested by the schools Con￿rned within the Romford areas.
More use has been made of the Synagogue premises during the year with certain functions
being held.
We are grateful to the members of the communty who have shown interest in volunteering to
assist the Board of Management.

The Synagogue complex is used for many weekend activities such as: Quiz nights on a Sunday
night Bagel Luncheons together with a talk from prominent community Members on such
matters as making a Will, Children's birthday parties, The hall has been used to host Bar-mitzvah
luncheons and Bat-mitzvah functions. AGM'S and general meetings are also held in the
Synagogue.
Charit Work
The Synagogue has a couple of commrttees such as Havering Jewish Ladies and the Fundraising
Committee who host various events to raise money for the Synagogue and to donate to other
charities.
Financial Review
Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £81,559 of which £74,100 was membership and FES.,
Charitable donations and the Kol Nidre apportionment were £4,600 Gift Aid contributions
were £2,002. The interest re￿iVed was £857
We have made £80,294 worth of payments, of which £7,625 for minister duties. £3,268 for
Security costs and £9,894 for light heat and water, just to name a few. Our Annual Financial
Statement is attached hereto.
Volunteers
The Board and Trustees of the Synagogue would like to thank all the volunteers who work so hard
to make our Synagogue the lively and vibrant community it is.
It is with sadness that during the year we lost our dear Rabbi Lee Sunderland in May. May his
memory be a blessing to all those that knew him.
The Synagogue is currently putting in place recruitment of a new Rabbi but we thank David Shaw
('Dov°) for his help during this dtfficult time.

independent examination is needed.

Basis of independent My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given
examiner's ststement by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the
accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts
presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual
items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the
trustees con￿rning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not
provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and
consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true
and fair, view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the
statement below.
Independent In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention
examiner's statement (

the requirements:
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the
Charities Act" and
