Romford & Affiliated Synagogue 25 Eastem Road Romford Esw RM1 3NH Romford and District Synagogue Trustees Report January 2023- December 2023 'm & Pur ose Romford & Distrid Synagogue has the responsibility of cooperating with the Chief Rabbi's Office in promoting the advan￿Ment of Judaism in accordance with Ihe statements of belief. Sabbath servlces and sooial events. The Synagogue is also specifically responsible for its members and their wellbeing. ves and Activities The Synagogue is committed to enabling as many people as possible to come and pray on Friday night and Saturday moming for the Sabbath services. At the same time during the year there are other religious festivals. and it is the TnAStees and Board members responsibility to advise members of the Synagogue when these festivals occur and at what time. AJI festivals are religious and held on Synagogue premises. The Synagogue maintains an overview of prayer throughout its community and the Rebbi is committed lo making the services more understandable to the community. The services held at the Synagogue assist in putting faith into practice through the prayers and sermons. When planning th& activities for the year. the Board and Trustees consider the Commission's guidance on public benefils and, in particular, the specific guidance on charities for the advan￿ment of religion. In particular we try to 8nable ordinary people to live out their faith as pari of the community through.. Attendan￿ to Synagogue on the Sabbath, high holidays and festivals Community Support from members Accepting invitations to attend specialty hosted evenings such as talks from prominent figures Achievements and rfomiance Tha Synagogue is keen to offer a range of services during the year for the community which they find both beneficial and spiritually fulfilling. The Synagogue's Rabbi encourages the community to join him at festival luncheons and dinner. Weencourage who18 families to join usfor our high holidays and Sabbath sarvices. Al presenl Ihe Synagogue has 274 members. Becontree Synagogue and Harold Hill. These include Iransfers from Barking and We would like to continue and to improve on school education visits to our Synagogue. These visits are always requested by the sthools concerned wthin the Romford areas. More use has been made of the Synagogue premises during the year with certain functions being held. We are grateful lo the members of the community who have shown interest in volunteering lo assist the Board of Management. Th8S ue Com lex The Synagogue complex is used for many weekend activities such as.. Quiz nights on a Sunday night Bagel Luncheons together with a talk from prominent community Members on such matters as making a Will, Children'sbirthday parties. The hall has been used to hosl Bar-mitzvah luncheons and Bat-mitzvah functions. AGM'S and general meetings are also held in the Synagoguè. Charit Work Th8 Synagogue has various committees e.g. Havering Jewish Ladies who host various events to raise money for thé Synagogue and to donate to other charities. Financial Review Total receipts on unrestricted funds were £77,578of which £72,580 was membership and FES., Charitable donations and the Kol Nidre apportionment were £3.699 Gift Aid conlributions were £2,484 Interesl r6c6ived was £815 Wa have made £124,703 worth of paymenls, of which £8.600 for our regular Rabbi. £3,462 for Security costs and £10.347 for light heat and water, £13,CC(J kra just to name a few. Our Annual financial slatement is attached hereto. Volunteers The Board and Trustees of the Synagogue would like to thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make our Synagogue the lively and vibrant community it is. Independent examiner's report on the accounts Section A Independent Examiner's Report Report to the trusteesl members of Romford & District Synagogue On accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023 Charlty no (if any) 1121253 Set out on pages 7t08 Respectlve The ¢harity'S trustees are responsible for the preparation of the a¢counls. responsibilities of The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year trustees and èxaminer under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to= examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charitiès Act, to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5>{b) of the Charities Act. and to state whether particular matters have come lo my attention. Basis of independent My examination was carried OLrt in accordance wth general Directions given examinerfs statement by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideralion of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounls, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair, view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
