Para 1.17 and
1.19
The academic year 2019-2020 was
successful, but difficult year for Cambridge
Russian and for the whole country.
The school has been continuing to provide
a wide variety of classes ranging from
academic subjects like Russian language
and literature, exam courses GCSE and A-
level, to vocational subjects like
programming, ceramics and Russian dance
for students aged 3 to 18, and classes of
Russian language for adults.
First half of the year the school operations
have been run smoothly and effectively by
our wonderful and very hardworking
administrative team -the director Jelena
Carter and the senior administrator Marina
Olefir, helped by our dedicated duty team.
Since the start of pandemic and UK
lockdown in March 2020 with a huge
support from the Trustee team Russian
School managed to transfer most of the
lesson online. Almost all teachers ran their
lessons online via zoom. We managed to
keep 2/3 of the number of pupils at school,
since start of the online learning. The

trustees have been on hand to advise the
administrative team as required and met
12 times (online) to discuss the direction of
the school work with the administration to
achieve our goals. Prior moving to online
lessons, huge work been done, online
trainings been provided to teachers and
parents. Lots of instructions have been
created. All zoom accounts been set up to
make a smooth and successful transition.
2019 saw several successful events and
visits benefitting the families of the
children attending the school as well as the
wider Cambridge community.
l) Halloween party for kids and their
parents.
2) "Why bilingual children need special
approach, a meeting and talk with parents

4) At the end of the autumn term, Lyudmila
Sikhosana's classes presented an exhibition
of their paintings on the topic of 'Marine
stories" to demonstrate their skills and to
please friends and parents with their
wonderful work.
5) The Christmas and New year
celebrations for kids and their parents.
6) 03.05.20 we hosted our good friends
and high-profile guests- the Mayor of
Cambridge Mayor Gerri Bird and Natasha
Hart, MBE (Order of the British Empire) and
founder of the NASSA Basketball Academy.
They joined us to celebrate Maslenitsa!

7) 15.03.21 the school is temporarily
switching to online education starting
Saturday, 21 March 2020.
The school office and trustees worked out
a plan for the transition to online
education in advance of the lockdown. This
plan had been discussed with the teachers
and we were prepared to enart this plan to
order to provide the continuity of our
children's education.
8) School offered and ran additional online
lessons during the lockdown, and also
during the half term breaks and summer
holidays to support families, parents, and
children.
9) On 9 May 2020 our wonderful school
turned 21 years old and we celebrated it all
together online (zoom).

held at our school on June 7, 2020.
Seventeen students performed at the
concert which ended with Rachmaninows
Prelude in C sharp minor performed by Mr
Tsvetkov.
12) An online drama performance was
presented to parents and other family
members by the classes of Tatiana
Lavrentieva.
Despite the quarantine our students
continued to study online and were happy
with an opportunity and keen to perform
for the online audience.

Para 1.18
The school operates as a not-for-profit
organisation. For many years we have been
striving to keep lesson fees to the
minimum to keep attending the school
affordable to as many families as possible.

For families facing hardships, we offer
payments in instalments and partial
bursary payments. We also returned
money to Families who could not attend
online lessons, in particular those with
younger children.

Review of the charity's
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21
While our income had reduced because we
lost a number of students in the lockdown:
younger children, who are usually our
largest group, some drama, dance and art
classes.
We also had to reduce the maximum
classes size, splitting larger classes into
smaller groups to facilitate online teaching.
This made classes significantly less
profitable.
However, as a gesture of goodwill we much
appreciated, we were not charged rent by
the College, which provided a significant
saving. We also made some savings on
teachers, travel costs, photocopying and
materials.
We had therefore achieved a healthy
financial result despite the difficulties.
The school is striking a difficult balance
between remaining profitable and
providing choice and facilities to pupils at
the lowest possible price. A built up reserve
of around £20,000 is necessary to make it
resilient to changes in costs and
