The trustees confirm they have referred to and had regard to the guidance contained in the charity commission's general guidance with regard to publlc benefrt when reviewing the trusts aims and objectives and in planning activifjes, including grants. With due regard to the guldance issued by the charity commlsslon on public benefrt we continue to support a church, offering regular Christian services of worship and teaching. We also support a residential school for poor children who would otherwise be unable to receive an education. Education Is currently provided from reception through to Standard 5 and children are supported to attend years 6-121 up to GCSE A level equivalent) at local schools and colleges. No school or accommodation fees are charyed. Section D Achievements and performance Summary ofthe main achievements of the charity during the year Church services on church premises are well attended and many visitors attended celebration seNices at Christmas. The church is now flnanclally Independent We fund hostel accommodation on two sites for children attending Morning Star School and for children and young people supported by us to attend other educational Instltutions. We are funding and providing support to bulld a boys hostel for a residential school where current hired premises no longer meet the needs. This building project Is being monitored by an architect and structural engineer to comply with Government planning and safety stsndards In Indla. Morning Stsr School has been refurblshed wlth the outslde and interlor repalnted and small maintenance jobs completed. New furniture was provided for the dlning room. Two volunteers visited projects In 2023 and were a great encouragement to stsff and students. They were also able to provlde verlficatlon of works being undertaken. Several friends from the U.K also visited and were impressed by what they saw. Fundlng has been provlded to buy Laptops and moblle phones for young people on university courses as required. Three donated laptops were updated and taken to Indla and four desk top computers were donated by a volunteer vlsltlng Mornlng Star School. These have been used to set up a computer lab wlth WIFI connectlon. Wo support 50 resldentlal school students at Morning Stsr School. An auto rickshaw has been purchased to take residential students to nelghbourlng hlgh schools and to bring day students to and from Morning Star School from a local slum. All chlldren taklng Intsrnal school exams passed and have been able to progress in thelr studies. Some high school students won prizes this year in sports and science. Three Children took GCSE equlvalent exams and have stsrted 'A' levels at local colleges while awaiting results. A further 3 passed thelr flrst year 'A' level exams and have started the second year. All have been funded with additional tuition as requlred. 3 who passed 'A' Levels have begun further edu&*ion courses. Funding was provided for trips to a Science Park, Wonderfand, and for meals out glvlng chlldren and young people a broader experience. We funded three children completing 'A' Level equivalent studies at various institutions allowlng them to follow a wide range of subjects. two in Arts subjects. one In commerce subjects. They all passed in June 2023 and have contlnued into further educatlon. We are funding 9 children in FurtherlHigher Education courses. 3 students doing BSC in Physical Education, 2 doing Social Work, 1 TAR March 2012
Section D Achievements and performance doing BSC in Animation, 1 doing a BSC Nursing, and 1 doing a BSC Airlines. Tourism and Hotel Management, 1 doing General Nursing Diploma. Mentorlng is provided to all students on request. We have given some small independent living grants to young people who have finished studies and started working. We are delighted to see students we have funded to galn qualiflcations. working in teaching. nursing. Occupational Therapy. We have facllitated a number of hospital admisslons, treatments and investigations for= fractures, dengue fever, heart conditions, dlabetes managemen( and conditions such as, kldney stones, malarla. dengue fever. chicken pox and stomach infections. We contlnue to run immunisatlon programs, health checks and dental checks for all the children in our care and others brought to us who are unable to afford healthcare. We have funded treatment as needed followlng check-ups. We teach about good nutrition, hyglene and healthy Ilfestyle to improve the health and wellbeing of children and families attending Mornlng Star School and church and their communities.
